View Full Version : Do splashes work as toners?

I'm trying to reduce my number of skin care products so that I can invest more money in my SCAD. Right now, after I shave, I splash on either witch hazel or Clubman's original, followed by a toner I got at Whole Foods, followed by a moisturizer. I think of witch hazel, Clubman's, and other splashes as an astringent, not a toner. Therefore, I use a separate toner, but if I can cut that out of my budget, that would be great. The one problem that jumps out at me is that I put the toner on my whole face, which would wind up being Clubman's on my whole face. Good for the skin, but you could smell me a mile away. And since we're on the subject of cutting back on product, what about using ASB on my whole face and cutting out the moisturizer? My brand is Nivea, which is great, but I'm open to suggestions on other brands as well. What about other brands of splashes that would act as a toner/astringent... one without so much alcohol that it would completely dry my face out? Or would the ASB counteract the drying effect of the alcohol?

Honestly - I said earlier that I did not think a toner was that useful in addition to a splash. I remain inclined to think that.

But in all honesty, I'm not sure what toners do, other than being an astringent. People are always mentioning toners, but I am rather skeptical about them doing anything particularly useful.

Looking forward to the responses....

Toner is an astringent.
