Hi, newbie here! Can anyone identify this box? The picture is pretty rubbish, although the razor does look like a fat boy, but I've never seen a box like this before. Is it a knockoff?
Thanks for any info. I'm looking forward to discussing razor stuff with you all!

I can't tell you what it is, but it looks like it came out of the 60s... possibly the 70s. I think it's snazzy.

Possibly a Slim Adjustable case. I have one, tho it is a different color and a slightly different design.

Mr Razor's site to the rescue one again.....

And yes, it's a slim by the "look" of the adjuster knob ( which makes sense ) .

Thanks for the information. I think I'll put in a bid.

And I have just won a 1930s German DE blade sharpener. I'll let you know if it works when it arrives, but I have my doubts: if these things really did work, every household would have had one back then. Still, we shall see.

Hi. The razor box is for a slim adjustable and maybe the razor is too, need to see the TTO end to be sure. But don't buy a razor based on the case it comes in. The ebay sellers mix and match all the time. Also many of the FatBoys are actually slim adjustables. It's also very common to see just about any razor in a Super Speed case.

Well, I put in a bid and got the razor for about half a dollar, although the postage came to five times the price of the razor (the Czech Post Office must be one of the most expensive in the world - I think it's because they employ ex models to deliver the post: our post woman certainly looks like one!).

The only writing under the head is
MADE IN USA
Gillette
M 3

REG. U.S.
PAT. OFF.

It certainly looks like a slim adjustable from a comparison with other pictures on the web. It's clean, with no worn plating, but not shiny like the ones that the serious Gillette traders offer on eBay. I'm quite glad about that - it's a personal thing, but the way I see it antiques should have a certain patina of age. Like Hollywood actresses, they should age gracefully rather than trying to look like something they're not.
I haven't used it yet, but everything seems to click and lock nicely, so I'll sterilise it and use it tonight.
Hopefully I'll be able to retire my Wilkinson Sword cheapo razor - that plastic screw that holds it together was never going to last long in any case.

Yep, it's a Slim adjustable and that's the correct case for it. I was 99.9% sure from the piccie you showed originally because the FB and the slim have different adjuster collars. Didn't really need to see the TTO knob to compare ( Yes sad isn't it :001_tt2:)

M=1967 3 = Third Quarter

You can shine it up with some creams ( MAAS, Silvo ), but I've never worried about it. I normally soak in boiling water, scrub with toothpaste and a toothbrush, then soak again just get all the old soap and gunk off it as I'm like you, should show age and it's only going to get dirty anyway. Just want it to be your dirt not someone elses :biggrin1:

Only thing to remember is to open the silo doors before you change the adjuster then close.

And to make sure that you give the tto knob a final 1/4 twist closed when you close it.

Good pickup.

Enjoy !!!!!

Just had a shave with it. It was an interesting experience. I set it to 7 just to see how it would go, put in a two-shave old Astra platinum and lathered up. I could feel the blade bouncing and snagging all over my face, and I was thinking what a disappointment it was, but when I rinsed my face and checked, man it was a really close shave, and no razor burn. It just didn't feel like it at the time.
