I know everyone has their favorite DE razor to shave with. Some people like vintage Gillette's, others Merkur. What is your's?

I know everyone has their favorite razor to shave with. Some people like vintage Gillette's, others Merkur. Whats is your's?If you had asked me a month ago I would have said Merkur Progress/Mergress. but now I would have to say my two favorites are my Gillette Slim or Super Adjustable.

If I had to pick one, it'd likely be a no date-code SuperSpeed.

The only DE I used is the Feather Popular razor, thus it is my favorite. I've had great results with it.
Wait... No Feather on the poll? But Weishi is there??

Currently, my recently acquired (from BST) satin Futur.
Its well-designed, well-built, and well-balanced. Ergonomic to the max. Hefty and solid, even more so than my Sledgehammer Slant.
I love the way the Futur fits my hand, almost like a natural extension. It seems to float itself into the right angle with little or no effort on my part, and it gets whiskers that I didn't even know were there.
That pop-off, pop-on head is so quick and easy, and I can do it with wet hands.
My only complaint is that it doesn't stand up on its edge like my other razors do, but that gives me an excuse to buy a stand for it. And I wish Merkur made non-adjustables with the same size and weight and handle design, especially a Slant-head.

Before switching to straights, it was a Gillette Fatboy.

Gem's.:wink:And recently older model Schick Injector's.
I had to vote other. As much as I love vintage Gillette, my Hoffritz deserve mention!

I voted "other", but in reality GEM SE are my only favorites, the rest are "others":wink:

If I hadn't had found B&B it would have been Merkur as that was all that was really available to me, but after finding out ( way too much :biggrin1: ) about Vintage Gillettes on Badger and Blade.......................
My #16 is my favourite followed by my F1 Fatboy ( but then again I don't have the collections that some of the guys have here, but I'm happy )

My two favorite razors are the Diplomat and the NEW (Bull Mastiff Custom). It's too close a race to call, but I can say this without a doubt that as far as DE's are concerned Gillette's are tops in my book.

Merkur HD Slant. Just selling my two remaining vintage Gillettes. I´m keeping only the Slant and Merkur Travel razor.

Right now, nothing beats my '69 Black Handle Adjustable on 2! I've found that my skin demands a mild shaver, but the added weight of the long handle allows for greater control.
We are about to visit my parents and grandparents during which trip I am to receive my grandfather's Black Handle Superspeed, so...:biggrin1:

Merkur Slant it is. I have also Merkur Futur and Gillette SS 40', but I haven't been using them for a long time. Slant gives me the best results. Futur is too heavy and SS too light for my hands. Slant is just optimal.

At the moment I'm hooked on the Gillette NEW. I've got three of them, one made in USA gold tone and two British NEWs (although one is called a 7 O'clock but it's the same as the other). The Brits have the edge at the moment but they all get to BBS town:cool:

Slant is number one in my rotation, followed closely by my Schick E type Injector.

For me, the Futur and '60 Fatboy are running even, with a '64 Slim a close second.
The HD and SuperSpeeds have been sent to the display shelf.

My daily razor is a Bull Mastiff handle from bobsrazorworks with a replated NEW head. I like it better than a Merkur HD or an EJ.

My '48-'50 SS is my favorite razor. It was my first DE razor and I still get a great shave every time I use it.

My favourite shaver is a 5/8 half hollow straight. My favourite safety razor is a Merkur 23c (for now at least). I don't think I could go with a SE as I love Astra blades with a passion. Unless they make SE Astras and then I'm in trouble .

My favorite razor is the Gillette Red Tip, but I have to admit I get really great shaves with the Slim, Fatboy and Merkur HD, too.
My favorite razor that I haven't shaved with yet is the Red Tip Custom Super Deluxe that HerrHepcat customized.

Well, GEM SE, even as a category including the several GEM varieties, isn't mentioned so I voted other. Straights weren't offered as a choice either. But those fall into "other" so I guess I can vote for both GEM and straight with a single swipe!

My favorite razor has changed regularly since I started this a couple of years ago. The list in chronological order goes like this-
Slim,
Fatboy,
Slim,
Brit Aristocrat #66
Hoffritz Slant
Brit Rocket HD
Vintage Merkur Slant
Brit #58
I still have them all but the #58 is getting all the use at the moment, there's something just 'right' about it

I meant for the poll to be for DE razors. I just forgot to write that part, that's why you see no mention of Straights or SE.

You talked me into it in the chat session the other night, and I'm on the waiting list for a Mastiff myself...can't wait!

Blue Lady Gillette; this was a company who cared about it's product. Now it appears to only care about it's product making money.

So hard to say, the one I just used is often my favorite. NEW, Techs, various SuperSpeeds, Fatboy, GEMs, Schick injector. Maybe my birthyear '47 SuperSpeed is my favorite. I always get a smooth, nick free shave.

My vintage Gillette Toggle set at #4 gives the best shaves. My vintage Merkur Slant is a close runner-up however.

As far as DEs go, for me a fat handle Tech works best.

Vintage Gillette guy.
Prefer: British #66 followed by the 1946-47 Aristocrat.

1940's British Gillette Rocket. The one I still own is mint with the cardboard insert still under the doors so to keep it that way I use a 1940's SS day to day.

This was a hard one for me. As I have stated many times before, I think the Gillette TTO's (Aristocrat, 40's SS and Red Tip) are the most fun to use, but I still get my best results with my 38C. I sold out, went with results, and chose Merkur.
BTW, I have a 37G on the way from WCS -- can't wait!

Currently it's one or the other of my 50's Super Speeds. But I have yet to put a blade in the NEW I got last week, so who knows what the future holds?

Old fat-handled Tech for me. I cannot even get intererested in any others right now.

Voted for Merkur as my HD is the go to razor. A close second is my 1949 Super Speed.

I'd have to say my favorite is whatever vintage Gillette I used that day. That would currently be the '34-'40 Aristocrat open comb. Boy that's a great shave.

I would have recently said my Merkur HD, however I recently acquired a fairly worn fat handle Tech (early design, triangular baseplate holes.) This by far has become my favorite. Still aggressive, yet an extremely comfortable shaver.

I almost went Vintage Gillette but a Barber Pole Slant wins by a vary slim hair.
