I used 444 for the first time today and love the smell, the menthol, and the soothing sensation. There is one pretty big issue though: my face was sticky and tacky more than an hour after I used it. Like, to the point where cat hair was sticking to me and my wife didn't want to kiss me. Any suggestions?

funny!
When i use the 444, i put a "Pea" sized amount in the palm of my hand and then mix it my AS.

I use 444 aftershave balm too! Use less :)

Yup. Use less. Add some aftershave to thin it out so there is enough.

+1 What they said! It does take some time to dry, but if you use less and mix it with AS, it dries in a few minutes.

Awesome, thank you all for the advice. I really want this stuff to work, because I really like it the smell and feel so much. Has anyone mixed it with Osage? Is this dangerously mentholated?

I loved my 444...I used a tiny drop each time and never had any problems. Awesome menthol!

Has anyone mixed it with Osage?
Man found frozen in a solid block of ice in his bathroom, film at 11:00.

It makes a good cocktail with Alt Innsbruck, 444 + 1666 > 2110. If you add Proraso cream and a shot of Osage to your routine, you should be able to handle minor surgery without feeling a thing!

For me the Osage has just a menthol kick that adding a pea size spot of 444 is negligible.

..a little goes a long way, just what was said before, a tiny, pea sized amount is enough.

i havn't tried the combo, but wouldn't it make sense that the 444 would hold and maintain the cooling power even longer against the face?

Hmm, sounds like a test is in order. I have used Osage with and without 444 and the only difference I notice is my face feels better with the 444 ... not that the cooling menthol sensation is stronger or longer lasting. Your point makes sense and from other info I have read on 444 makes it sound like it should pack a bigger punch than I am experiencing.

Tomorrow - Osage+444 mix! Maybe a Noxzema wash and proraso SC to round it all out.

The 444 balm is great when mixed with an alcohol based aftershave. I have tried it with Osage and it will give you a good 20 minute menthol tingle, which is fine by me. Oh, how I love the tingle. :biggrin1:

444 is a wonderful Portuguese ASB. Look here (http://vintagescent.com/aftershave-balms-c-4/444-aftershave-balm-p-1).

Well, today I mixed Osage w/ a pea-sized drop of 444 and it was wonderful. I was not sticky afterwards, but my face is still moisturized! And wow, I was feeling the chill for an hour or so after.

I had a feeling you'd like it with the Osage, lol.
I ordered four tubes from Leon, and I really like it. It really doesn't have much of a smell, and by itself is a sticky mess, but with your fave AS it is very nice. Doesn't get sticky, enhances whatever it is the AS has going for it, and leaves your face feeling protected, hydrated, and smooth. It turns any splash into a balm, which is cool.
Funny story...yesterday I washed my face after work, and used some Kiehl's blue astringent as a splash with some 444 mixed in, just to enhance the menthol...it worked great and it was still in the drying process while I sat at my computer. My cat decided I wasn't paying attention to him, so he jumped up onto the desk, purring, and proceeded to rub himself all over my face...I wasn't thinking about the balm or anything, just rubbing my face in his belly, lol...well, I looked like a mad Scotsman by the time I was done (my cat's orange, so I had this longish orange hair all over my face and neck). It was pretty funny...
