All I want to do is watch streaming video such as HULU on my TV. I don't need it to be High def (I don't think I have the outputs on my laptop anyway).

I have an S-video cable already so I don't have to buy a VGA cable. I do need to buy an audio cable.
Do I just need an audio cable that connects from my headphone jack to tv (tv end having the red and white ends)? Similar to this?

Also I tried to connect the s video already. I went into display properties and click on settings, monitor 2, and checked the box extend my windows desktop onto this monitor.

All I get is my desktop wallpaper on the screen. I don't see windows or startmenu or toolbar??

I am using windows XP.

Yes that cable is exactly what you need.

the reason why you don't see a start bar is because you have it set to extend your desktop to that monitor.

Take a window by the title bar and pull it either far left or far right and it should move onto your other monitor (lcd tv).

There is a setting called mirrored which will display everything you see on your laptop screen.

Most laptops have a Function key set up which will cycle through display options from laptop only to laptop and external (same on both) and external only. It should look like a box with a vertical line to either side of it. Currently you are, as mentioned above, extending your desktop to the tv which makes for extra desktop space instead of duplicating. That will work as well, just move the window you wish over to the TV screen's side and have fun
