Let's see the goodies you picked up this week!
This is a good week so far
Yesterday I got the box from Bornholm (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=90584)
Later a package from www.proshave.dk arrived:
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e259/Jakobeep/Vintage/Score180509.jpg
Today I found a local store that carries the full Tabac line, naturally I had to add a puck of the shaving soap in bowl to my den. About time I get to try the fabled Tabac :001_smile
Regards.

Left to right: Master Bay Rum, Jack Black Supreme Cream, L'occitane Cade shave cream (awful), C.O. Bigelow Barber black after shave balm, C.O. Bigelow shave cream, C.O. Bigelow pre-shave oil, Body Shop Maca root shave cream, Maca root wash off shave oil.
I really regret the Cade cream. I tried it yesterday with a new personna blade in my mekur barber pole. Tore my face up BAD, and I had to re-shave later because all the stubble that ended up getting left was irritating things further.

I like the smell of Cade, but I would probably go for the soap, and it's pricey.

To each his own, but you may want to give the Cade another try! My first attempt with it was average, however after adjusting the cream to water ratio ( I use a bit more of this cream when mixing than I do when using other creams ) it provides a very luxurious, slick lather and when used in combination with the Cade aftershave it has a nice masculine, woodsy fragrance!

I was tidying up a bit on Monday when I discovered an old bottle full of Old Spice Aftershave in a Lighthouse shaped decanter. It was given to me as a gift from my Aunt & Uncle some 25-30 years ago. They used to give me Old Spice aftershave every year for Christmas after I started shaving. I always thought it was for old men and used to give it away ( I wish I had it now ). I never said anything to them as I didn't want to hurt their feelings and thought the gesture was very nice and thoughtful. I was pleasantly surprised when I found this bottle stashed away, and was anxiously awaiting my shave yesterday (Tuesday) morning to give it a try. It smells great and still soothes the face. I wonder if I think it smells great because now I am an "old" guy!
My Aunt passed away about seven years ago and I really miss her, so It was a nice remembrance to not only have found it, but to finally use the gift I was given so many years ago.

Stopped by an Estate Sale down the street and happened upon an old Gift Collection by Mennen. It contains four 1.5 oz original, dimpled glass bottles of aftershave.
The scents are:
Spice Scent

Burnished Leather
Wild Moss
I thought it was pretty cool to get some shaving history that's no longer available. My deft hands ripped the box when I was opening it.

I won this suspicious Bay sale recently. pics were terrible, description was even worse. I knew for sure that the case was for a TV Special but could not tell what the razor was. I won it at $8 so couldn't really lose and my RAD is pretty bad. The case was completely pooched so I tossed it but ended up with a rather nice 60s Tech - a Sportsmen maybe??
Not too sure really what it is. The only markings on it are the Big Gillette logo on the face and Made in England inside. No date code or Patent markings at all.

Well, I have absolutely no money, but I can hardly suffer a week going by without some sort of shaving-related purchase, so I picked up a 200 ml bottle of Aqua Velva Ice Blue for $4 Canadian. It was just cheap enough that I could buy it with the change in my car :tongue_sm

Hi Anthony,
That AV Ice Blue has gotta' be the best bang for your buck, great stuff at a great price! Which reminds me...I'm all out, so got to pick some up next time I'm at Shopper's. But if I use the change in my car I'll be scrambling at the Country Style coffee take out window!
Today I went to one of the larger Danish annual fleamarkets; the Bridge Market in Middelfart.
Pickings were slim, but I managed to score the following items:
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e259/Jakobeep/Vintage/Old_Type_Copy_Barbett_Case_01.jpg
No name Gillette Old Type clone in mismnatched Barbett bakelite razor box w. a few blades and a loose head from a MFM branded razor
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e259/Jakobeep/Vintage/Flying_Eagle_02_01.jpg
Flying Eagle Brand plastic handle Tech clone. These must be rather common here in Denmark, it is the second one I find: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=73008
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e259/Jakobeep/Vintage/DUX_01.jpg
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e259/Jakobeep/Vintage/DUX_02.jpg
DUX (an old Danish household equipment brand) branded Gillette Old Type clone. I am quite sure that this one will clean up beautifully
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e259/Jakobeep/Vintage/Vintage_Butterscotch_Badger_01_01.jpg
Butterscotch handle vintage badger. This one will make a nice restoration project
I have been attending flea-markets since I was 12. Just a few years back razors (both straights and DEs) were everywhere - and costed next to nothing. I remember seeing at least two really nice mint/near mint sets last year (sadly before I got into DE shaving). But now, less than a year after there is nothing to be found except from what the professional buyers leave behind. I really thought it would take at least a few years before that happened here in Denmark, but no, it has already happened. Everywhere I asked about razors the answer was either: "Sorry, I just sold the ones I had" (1½ houer into the first day of the market!) or "Funny, everyone asks about those now". On top of that the prices, even for broken/worn out razors has gone through the roof. The interesting thing is that these razors do not show op in antique stores - so they must go straight to e-Bay :frown:
But, I still managed to get a bag a few good ones anyway; the DUX razor and the butterscotch brush are beautifull - and will be even more when I get them cleaned/restored.
Regards.
Jakob

AOS was selling this for $175, I would never pay that. A friend called me today and said AOS was closing them out for $75.00 I quickly called the Time Warner Center store and they were sold out. He told me to check out the store at Madison and East 62nd. They had it and held if for me.

Also, I must be a total nub but I can't figure out how to read the date codes. I saw the table at http://www.geocities.com/safetyrazors/gil_ser2.htm but I'm just as lost as when I started. Can anyone who actually knows what the codes mean help me out here? I'm pretty much sure on the ident. but the dates elude me.

Nope, that is a 40's Aristocrat. One of Gillette's finest TTO razors to shave with in my opinion. Love these razors. Open the silo doors to see if the center bar is notched and we can date it more accurately! Nice!

Think it is a mismatch? The 30's Aristocrats were all open comb I thought. This is a solid safety bar no endcaps (by design) no notch gold Aristocrat.

Thank you , i've checked pics of milady and tuckaway , and the milady seems very close to my razor except for the head , so maybe i've got some kind of frankenrazor ,...
Anyway it shaves great.

Looks like a Tuckaway with a New head, which was in fact standard.

Hahahaha I'm very glad you like it. I tried to say in the post that it looked way better in person. The camera just couldn't capture it though.
Hope you enjoy!
I just came home to Proraso ASB and 100 Gillette 7 O'clock Yellows...Very good purchase

It cleaned up very nicely. Only fault is that the head is loose, changing the blade takes some care, but once the TTO is tightened again there are no problems.
Regards.

I purchased this Travel Tech from bbsupersport. Not only was it very clean, but it is an N2 which happens to be the year and time I was born, so you see I had to buy it, I didn't have a choice in the matter. It does not count as a RAD purchase.
Thanks Bill, and also thank you for the pack of Derby Extras you threw in.

This is a good week so far
Yesterday I got the box from Bornholm (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=90584)
Later a package from www.proshave.dk arrived:

Today I found a local store that carries the full Tabac line, naturally I had to add a puck of the shaving soap in bowl to my den. About time I get to try the fabled Tabac :001_smile

Jakob,
How do you like that Proraso splash? Its my favorite alcohol based splash with quite a menthol kick!

Picked this one up today, funny thing is that I have looked at this razor on 3 different occasions over a 6 month period. But never grabbed it because it is a mismatched set, Ever Ready case and Gem razor Today, I noticed that it was an open comb. This is my second OC Gem, the first one was un-usable because of a bad spring. Even Dr. Dave was unable to revive it, so it is now a display piece. Any one have an idea what should be in the case?

I found this Baton brand brush today at an antique show. I originally bought it for the vintage butterscotch handle, but I’m sure that the brush can be renewed with a decent cleaning. The bottom of the brush says that it was made from “Pure Badger.”

I like it a lot. Much better than the Proraso ASB. Though I still prefer my Floïd.

I've had one of these (since PIF'd to a newbie friend) new in box with instructions.... This brand was distributed by Sears, Roebuck and Co.. "For a neat, well groomed appearance, use Baton toilet articles for men..."
Nice brush!

The one on the left is a 1917 and right one is from 1921. The second picture is the 1921 before cleaning. I used the aluminum foil/baking soda method to remove the tarnish. I finished with a very light touch of silver polish to remove some spots that remained. Unfortunately, the knob is brassed on the 1921. It looks like that razor saw some good use with its previous owners.

Thanks. It looked really bad when it arrived, but boiling water, dish soap, an old toothbrush and a lot of work did miracles to it.
