Well, it's now been about three months since I first saw Mark's vids and began my wetshaving obsession. This is just an awesome forum with some great people and great information, and it has helped me immensely (by merely reading older posts). I learned how to use my Futur, how to generate a passable lather, and how to get through 9/10 shaves without cutting myself.

Until now(!) I got my blade sampler from LetterK (if you're a noob and haven't done this yet, DO IT) and finally decided to get brave enough to try a "ninja assassin sharp" Feather blade. Those little guys are SHARP! I first shaved with one last Friday, and was doing great up until the third pass. I was getting the area just below my bottom lip and when I put the blade against my face, my angle must have been way off and it gave me a good 4-5 millimeter gash that took 4 days to heal.

This morning was my first shave since Friday morning (I started looking like a homeless guy, which is bad when you work in an office) and decided to try the Feather again because I'm an idiot. Well, the same damn thing happened! I was trying to be careful, and then on the third pass it happened again. Thank God for styptic pencils.

So, I'm swearing off Feathers until I know what I'm doing. I get GREAT, SMOOTH shaves with them, but my face is paying a price for it. The good thing is that I have 4 other types of blades I haven't tried yet. I'm thinking of trying either Derbies or Israelis next. Just too bad that I'll have to wait until at least this weekend to shave again.

:scared: I'm scared of shaving with my Merkur HD that will be arrive in the coming days (maybe even tomorrow :w00t: ). I'll be using Merkur blades though. I'm worried about the angle aspect :crying: .

Feathers are sharp and can be trouble-they will cut through anything that sticks up or out. However, when used properly and slowly, they will give an excellent shave. Since you have the sampler pack, save the Feathers for last until your technique is flawless.

By the time you work your way through the other blades, you will have an idea of the angle for your face-then you will be Feather ready. although i have been wet shaving for a while, I too have been 'bitten' by the Feather-but only because I was not paying attention and tried to rush.

Curl your bottom lip back over your teeth to present a flat and smooth surface to the razor and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the tip. I usually do this but must be getting lazy on later passes. I'll try to pay more attention to that.

Don't sweat it. You'll be fine. Take your time and remember the basics of good prep, no pressure and starting with the handle parallel to the floor and rotating down a few degrees.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack this thread BTW.

I haven't tried the feathers yet as i'm new myself but i'm thinking that people cut people not blades. If you are careful you shoudl be fine. I never had a single problem with my Personnas or Derby's. We'll see what happens with the feathers once i get the package from letterK.
