In my house the whole heating system is under reconstruction, which in practice means we do not have hot water. Of course I can boil water but a very limited amount (with my rice cooker hahah). On the other hand I have to shave every day (except the weekend), so I tried to make my best with about two or three cups of hot water.
Firstly I began with hot watered towel juts like the classical XIX. century barber's style. I know lot of us using towel for that purpose but I think not because they do not have hot water! So, in my case there was no choice. I prepaired my face with hot watered towel for minutes and again I think three times (during this I was watching TV with daily news), Then I went back to the bath room and began to make all steps of classical shaving but only using a cup of hot water to make my Merkur DE razor clean and warm.

Ok. I know the REAL XIX style would be when you are using straight razor, but wait a minute, I'M not an advanced wet shaver! :)
Finally the result was very good: my shaving was done with three cautious passes - I'm really satisfied with the result.
It was a great experience i felt I my shave was just like the same in the XIX. century and it was fun! :)

About once a week, I get stuck without electricity and thus the power to pump water. There is still hot water in the hot water heater tank and it will run out fast enough to fill the sink in about 3-4 minutes, but no way near enough to shower. On those days I must do exactly as you speak with the added problem of using a flashlight as the light source.

Great times thanks to the Global War on Terror (Oops that term is no longer in vogue).

Yep and we're fighting nonuniformed cross national insurgents, not terrorists.

Next thing you now we'll be calling the enemy "freedom fighters".
