I just bought my first safety razor on ebay. An old gillette for $6 including shipping... which after a little research turns out to be a ladies' razor. The guide in this forum that helped me figure this out also notes that it is a perfectly good razor. Comparing it to pictures on the web, the head seems to be pretty comparable to the super speed. The weight and length of the handle are fine. Long story short - should I be looking for another razor before I even give this one a try?

Give it a try first. There are some fans of that particular razor. My wife has one and one of these days I'm going to give it a spin.

It should be very similar to a men's. Give it a try. If you hate it, you hate, if you like it, you like it. You can always sell it if you don't like it, but give it a shot. There's no reason not too.

Give it a go. Several members here use them, and they are not all ladies! I have the Blue Handle and the Silver Handle.

My girlfriend has a Lady Gilette and upon inspection, it looks exactly like an old Superspeed with a longer handle. Some people might prefer that; the same head as the superspeed and the ease of grip from a longer handle. Maybe I should get one! :thumbup1:

The razor you have will be fine. Since you are just getting started, remember to stick with just the one razor. One blade, and it wouldn't hurt to stick with just one shaving cream/soap. Two many variables will make your learning curve more difficult.
