View Full Version : Is there a closed comb Big Fellow?
I know there's an open comb Gillette Big Fellow, but was wondering if a closed comb version was ever made?
Particularly the New version.
Thanks!

I know only this one, but I donīt know his name or case. He is from 1948-1951 Made in USA and I call him Aristocrat prototype:

hmm- wasn't the aristocrat already out at this point? It looks more like a heavy super speed-

The NEW was open comb by definitive design. Closed comb didn't come around until late 30s or early 40s.

Actually, Gillette went from open comb designs to safety bar types. I'm not aware of any closed comb Gillette models. The closed comb was used mostly on single edge razors such as the Gems and Stars. I suspect when the term "closed comb" is used in this thread, what was really meant was "safety bar".
In the picture below, the Star and the Gem Jr. have closed combs; the Treet has a safety bar.

Tom
