Let's see the scores for the week!

A mid fifties 9.5 ounce Old Spice decanter with a few (good condition) ounces still in it for $3 and, in a separate buy, a more recent (not sure of the date) Shulton mug and new soap for $12.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a323/JT_Production/PIC-0256.jpg

3 razors for $18 shipped: a ball handled tech, a '65 Slim and a 1920 Single Ring

http://i8.ebayimg.com/03/i/001/40/64/e6bf_1.JPG

The picture does not do justice to how cruddy the Slim was. At first I thought it was completely brassed out, but it was all soap scum--some of which had turned black in the grooves that run the length of the handle. After over an hour of repeated scrubbing with Scrubbing Bubbles, Barkeeper's Friend and Maas, it turned into one of the shiniest, minty Gilletes I own. I can only think that the soap scum must have acted as some protective layer preventing the plating from being exposed to oxygen.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a323/JT_Production/101-0200_IMG.jpg

The single ring cleaned up nicely too with some scrubbing bubbles and Maas. I still need to give it some work on the textured part of the handle. The only plating loss seems to among the teeth, which are all in place and straight. No cracks anywhere, but a few minor nicks on the inside part of the head. The combination of bad light and camera phone are making the handle look brassy, but it's not--just needs a little more cleaning and polishing.

Sam, those are excellent prices on all of the Old Spice products! Last week I bought a 9.5 oz. of the Old Spice aftershave (about 60% full) but had to pay $8 and he wanted $10. I've seen mugs with soap...but not at that price!
Also, great deal on the razors! Congrats!

I picked a couple of items this weekend. An old container of Old Spice Talcum powder for $3, thought it would make a nice novelty item, but it's about 50% full and still smells great. Does this stuff go bad? I think I may still be able to use it! After all it could provide a "fresh, well groomed feeling all day". The other item is a Fat Handled Tech, it was also covered in soap scum, yet when cleaned up resulted in a minty razor for $4.

Both Old Spice finds, were on the bay. The mug and soap, I put in a $15 bid from the Admiral's Club before boarding a flight out of O'Hare and was surprised as hell that I ended up with it. Just good timing I guess.

The plating on the razor is about 85% intact, with the plating almost stripped from one of the silo doors. The interior of the box is in a rather sad state, but the exterior and the blade box, containing Thin and "Camo" Gillette blades, cleaned up nicely.

I am very much looking forward to shaving with this one.

this is a great shaver, Jakob - how is the razor mechanically? Often the mechanism is not smooth - and needs a push on the bottom of the handle to open the doors! (That does not affect the shave, in my experience!)

Let us know how it shaves.

I got my first Senator today.:biggrin:

It was on a table at an antiques mall where I was buying a watch, a pipe, and a fedora. The guy saw me eyeing it and said, "I've been deep enough into your pocket for today. That's on the house if you want it."

I almost giggled.

Will post pictures when I get it cleaned up and polished. It's diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirty but it's all grime. It looks like the plating is good under all that crap.

Excellent score! I have one in gold (with razor). My set is one that I will never sell. The detail and beauty of the Empire case is something that you do not see with modern products.

Totally non-shaving related but this week I scored a good deal on a Nikon D40x from a mate at work, and today I went to a general auction with my wife and picked up an original watercolour by an unknown local artist and a beautiful horse racing print for £38. A few central Texas antique shop finds.

Cool story: went to the Austin antique mall and found the SS for $6. Drove out to Bastrop, walked into a store and asked the lady if she had any old Gillette razors. She said she had two "old gold ones". She pulls out the Aristocrat and the Sheriton. So I ask how much. She says $3 each. We drive out to Smithville and believe it or not, I find an Aristocrat case for $5!!!! So I spent $8 and got a cased Aristocrat and only spent $17 for the day.

Thought I'd share my other ad. My score of the year came today. Got an incredible deal on them, too. Now, I just need to have them matted on acid free linen, then famed and matted under UV protective glass.

http://www.rare-posters.com/2048.jpg

A little bit of browning on the bottom of the London, but Chicago has a couple of very serious poster dealers who will be able to restore and mat it. My deal on this was the equivalent of finding a toggle in case, with instructions and original unopened blade box but with a slight bit of brassing on one of the doors for $5. (I paid more than $5, but this is worth more than a toggle.)

I also got a copy of "Safety Razors: A Price Guide". Nice pictures, but probably one of the worst organized books I've ever encountered.

I picked up a NOS container of Wrisley Spruce soap. I took a VDH boar brush to it and whipped up an amazing lather! Think I'll be shaving with it tomorrow. I passed on an Old Spice mug and a bottle of Early American Old Spice, may go back and pick them up.

Cheers,
David

Merkur 12c - Got it at a local brick and mortar for $48, which is only six more than Westcoast has it for, and hey, no shipping and instant gratification!

Local antique score. Any help confirming identities and advice on cleaning the aristocrat would be appreciated, see my other thread. (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=89374)

it cleaned up very nice - the mechanics are not good - needs help to open the doors, but they do lock down nicely - and it makes for a great shave!

I don't know anything about these (I've seen the "I show you mine, you show me yours" thread with gold/silver/BLACK! ones...) - are these Brit Aristocrats? Were they really popular?

Any information will be welcome.
