Ooooh! I get to go first! Kewl. Anyway, I'm surprised I didn't have any competition on the Bay for this beauty. Less than $15 shipped.

Found these while antiquing over the weekend. Two Old Spice, one Col. Conk and one unknown (has picture of ship, anchors and the words "William the Conqueror 1066").

That 1066 is great. Hard to find a traditional scuttle that is not covered in floral aspects.

This week is off to a great start. Two items that I have been after for a while were found online and came in today. My Birthday razor - Gillette U-4 Black Handle Superspeed Flare Tip - and an Old Spice Mug with unused (until tonight) soap.

Very nice, an Old Spice mug with the plastic thing still on the soap(until now) is quite the score.:thumbup1:

Some may have left this unused but I have been wanting to try this soap and I really enjoyed it. I think I will use it regularly and need to find refills!!

How did you like the soap?

I loved it!! The moisturizing effect was amazing and I need this for my skin. I just added this post to the review ...

I finally bought a mug & soap set that were unused. I paid quite a bit for this ($26 for the set, unused & in the original box) but it was something I have wanted for a while so I was willing to pay. Considering I got the mug too, this ended up being about the same price as my C&E Nomad in the wooden bowl.

While it was still in the original packaging, I have to think that the scent was stronger when new. I was also surprized how the soap scent is more soapy - like Mitchells Wool Fat - and not as old man spicey as I had expected. I was mildly disappointed in this as I thought I was going to have a very nostalgic experience. I do like the scent but it was not quite what I remembered my father using when I was a kid.

I found the lather to be fantastic. Thicker than I have been able to produce with MWF and slicker then my Nomad. I acheived an effortless CCS with no weepers or irritation using my 38C and a fresh Derby and was able to make 3 passes face lathering without needing to return to the mug.

But the moisturizing effect of this soap blew me away!! My skin is quite dry and I follow every shave with Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturizer as many ASB just don't seem to cut it for me. But so far (2 hours since my Old Spice shave), I am yet to use any moisturizer and feel as though I don't need to. My skin feels creamy to the touch and is not tight in any way. I have not had this feeling from soap or cream alone - ever. On my off days when I don't shave, I can see myself using this soap for some lather and a hot towel treatment just for the pleasure and moisturizing effects.

While some may have these mug & soap sets in thier collection, I am eager to use this product in a regular rotation and will try to find refills when necessary. I have many collection pieces that I have not used, but this one I used within an hour of it arriving and I will enjoy using it again and again.

So for any collectors out there, I have an Old Spice mug & soap set original box for sale!! :w00t:

I would have cracked that baby open and used it too. This stuff was made to be used.

On to my acquisition of the day. I just got a Tabac refill today. Not much, but there's more inbound. Hopefully, I'll have a pic up once it all arrives.

I just received this in the mail today courtesy of Suzie's super generous weekly give away to newbies!

I requested Root beer and that's what I got! It smells WONDERFUL. (On a side note, does not taste as good as it smells. Maybe at first it's not bad but it's got a soapy aftertaste.:blushing:)

This sure is a fun shaving soap, I can't get enough of that root beer smell! I just sniffed it and sniffed it before I shaved with it. I will be sad when this soap runs out.

Smells great, lathers great, what's not to love?

Thank you Suzie!:w00t:

I picked these up this past Sunday.

Co-incidentally they are both have the same inscription "The Celebrated Extra Hollow Ground Razor" on the blades. And they were purchased from two different vendors.

Can anyone tell me the approximate date of these razors?
I'd like to restore and use them, should I attempt it myself? I don't have the equipment to hone them, so they would have to be sent out for that. But I can put the time in to sand out the imperfections/pitting in the blade.
Is it possible that the scales on W&B are original? They are really rough, does replacing them affect the value of the razor?

I haven't even cleaned them up yet, thought I would show them as I received them first.

Thanks in advance to anyone with answers.

I also picked up a glass bottle of Old Spice Aftershave, it still has aftershave in it...about 3/4 full. Does this stuff go bad?

I've been wanting one of these bottles to decant some Old Spice aftershave into and use it. I was looking for the 4.25 oz. size, but when I saw this 9.5 oz. bottle, I figured what the heck I'll pick it up. Cost me $8.00, he wanted $10 and I offered $6 so we met in the middle.

They probably date from 1880-1910. The restore could be attempted by yourself, but prepare to spend plenty of time with wet&dry sandpaper and WD-40- we're talking weeks even if you do it just every night for a few hours. you need to progress from 230 grit or so all the way up to 2000. Take the lower grits slow and make sure you get all the pitting out.

If those look like horn or bone, then yes they are original. If they look like wood or plastic, then they are replacements. If they are original, then yes they are worth more. PM me if you need help with scales or honing.

The scales on the W&B are most definitely wood and on closer examination, look home-made, so I will assume that they were replacements.
The scales on the Geo. Wostenholm are black bakelite? They look plastic. Am I to assume they are replacement scales as well? They have no markings or logo on them, just plain black...in very good condition though.

Is the WD40 used instead of water for wetsanding?

Thanks for the info so far, and I'll be in touch with you.

I have always wanted to post in the score, seem to always forget. Not this time! I received my Rocket from Erwin, I just could not resist. Ever since the post about blade gaps I have been looking at my blades in the razor. My favorite razors all have about the same look and this one has it, I will see in the morning. Also just got a Feather Portable  and I could not believe the fine shave I had, one of the best shaves with a de ever. I found it on ebay for $12 I think it was. Also picked up a refill of DR Harris from The Knoxville Cigar Shop for $10. I am going back to get some GEO Violets that smells awsome as you will see I like flowers or playing in the dirt. It has been a great spring here in the Valley

I just had another 1974 Black Handled SuperSpeed Flare Tip get delivered. It is still in the package and is another "birthday razor" for me. I'll keep this unopened and use the other that I posted on page one for my annual birthday shaves. No pics of this one.

Scored some Blue Line soap and a bottle of Blend 2-11. My SWMBO scored a mess of SCS's new juice for ladies, a tube of foot lotion and a bottle of body lotion. Then the fine ladies threw in a bar of shea facial soap, something that looks to be lip stuff and some samples of their new Lime splash and milk. Awesome.

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e259/Jakobeep/Vintage/Gillette_NEW_In_Box_01_03.jpg

A nice (early?) US ball-end Gillette NEW in box w. bladeholder. The razor and box were quite dirty, but cleaned up nicely, the plating is 85-90% intact. The handle has a small crack in both ends, the endcap was loose, some industrial grade epoxy solved that.

Today:

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e259/Jakobeep/Vintage/Gillette_Sheraton_01_02.jpg

A very nice Gillette Sheraton. The plating is 95% intact, with some discoloration of the laquer on the handle. The doors does not close entirely even and the blade gap on on side is slightly uneven, but I do not think it is enough to cause any problems while. Tomorrow will tell.

Interesting mix isn't it?

In the case was a Blue Tip Gillette which is being sanitized in Barabicide as I type this. That is a pack of Gillette Blue Blades, and a sealed in cellophane pack of razors.

There is also a travel razor. The case has shined up quite nicely. I can only hope the razor does as well.

What makes this a pseudo temp score is the background. A good friend, a deacon, runs the parish Bargain Basement and Food Pantry. I told him some months ago that if he ever came across old razors to let me know. I would clean them, sell them and turn the proceeds over to the food pantry.

So this will be going for sale soon (I hope this doesn't break any rules) but until then I have the beautiful cased razor and the travel razor.

No, this was a toggle that was running at the same time as 2 other toggles, but it was listed under the wrong category heading. Apparently it does have some issues, but I'm hoping that they are fixable. So, no, you won't have to kill me now.

This week...

Had some of my stuff sent down from Atlanta and the Gillette razor that I had turned out to be a '59 Fatboy. (Mentioned that it was on the way previously)

My '60 Flairtip (thanks again Books) arrived today - can't wait to get this one in the rotation (now that I'll have a rotation :biggrin1:)

Although my goal this year is to not add to my shave den (or at least not add alot ) I used a gift certificate that I received recently and picked up a wooden bowl of T&H Luxury Shave Soap and a bottle of Dominica Bay Rum with Lime.

Just received (from ambrose (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/member.php?u=13633)) an American Success 5/8 straight razor. Having used a "Magic" brand disposable-blade straight for the past year and a half, I'm pretty excited to finally have a REAL straight razor. It arrived sharp as the devil himself (ambrose was kind enough to even give it extra attention knowing I had no skills for such things) and though I bought it mid-day Wednesday, it arrived today.

Here's a pic..

Thanks ctakim,
I was a little disappointed in the razor's condition relative to brassing. The knob condition in particular did NOT show realistically in the ad photos, so much so I asked the seller if there was the possibility of a parts switch (no response yet...or possibly ever). And the case top's brocade pattern, which did convey correctly in the ad, may not be cleanable and looks to be plating damge as I've tried to capture in the attached photo. Oh well, "buyer beware"! :frown:

Having said this, this is one cool razor and the overall condition is very good, especially the case, it's interior lining and the razor structure. Will keep working at it - proud to have it in my small collection.

From experience, the bottom knobs on those 3 piece early razors seems to lose the plating quickly. My double ring looks like a silver razor with a brass knob.

Florida Water (aka Flower Water) is a southern US - Caribbean concoction - used as an aftershave, a general deoderizer... used in some religious rites (Voodoo, perhaps?) - citrus-y, sweet... alcohol based. Makes a good AS.

The surprise to me is that there is a Chinese version - called "Florida Water."

Great score benny!!! I may have to pour myself a bourbon drink after seeing that beauty, I think I have some Maker's in the cabinet.

Well today my westcoastshaving package finally came in! No fault to john, but my my i think the Pony Express delivered this package, it took forever.

In it was some Kiss My Face Peaches & Creme, a puck of Col. Conk Bay Rum, and my letterk sampler pack sans the Gillette 7o'clocks which were backordered. They will be shipping seperately.

I may wait on them to come in before i begin my Blind Random Sampling Study of all the different blades.

Thanks Bob and Whiskeytown. I am really looking forward to this one. Had some a while back in a restaurant and it was love at first sip. Already specified to my roommates that this is not to be mixed with anything

Wondering if it will overtake Buffalo Trace as my favorite.

Went to Chincoteague Island for the day and stopped at every antique store on the way. I I only came out with an Old Spice mug. The same place had an old Ever Ready brush in white and blue, but I chose not to get it since I thought I'd find better stuff at other stores.

One of the stores I went into, I asked the woman if they had any shaving stuff and she responded with:

"We sell antiques. Not collectibles."

Oh well. It was a fun day overall.

Finally found a Fat Boy and, as a bonus, with the date code for my birth year/quarter. Also snagged a few of it's older brothers and cousins (D1 Blue Tip and D1 Red Tip Superspeeds).

This is how they look after an initial cleanup:

Couldn't wait to try the Fat Boy in my date code. Wow! Effortless BBS shave but with zero feedback - a little weird when you're used to a straight.

Very nice, I'm actually planning on placing my second order with her. Orange orange, polynesian red, and energy citrus are all on my list. How are all the scents compared to each other?

Oh yeah, sunday score for me was a fantastic looking fatboy. The head is a bit gummed up, but the plating is bright and shiny and all the paint is intact.
