Has anyone ever used one or maybe a soap to wash your hair? Just curious to see how well it works. I think that it would be cool just to use one thing in the shower some of the time. I am mostly interested in all natural products.

Been using soap to wash my hair for years (ever since I ran out of shampoo during a post-college European trip) -- I find that my hair looks more natural that way. Presently using olive oil soap. On the rare occasions when I use shampoo, I am amazed why anybody would prefer the stuff, as it makes the hair too fluffy. Last time I used shampoo, I swear I looked like I was wearing a bad toupee.

Lest you are worried about the health benefits/detriments of soap, I am now 42 and still have a full head of hair!

I used one a few years ago and found it to harsh. It was marketed for the gym crowd. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name.

I shaved my head which eliminated the problem. Occasionally use Head & Shoulders.

I use this every day in the shower for everything. I even incorporate it into part of my shaving on occasion:

Sheabutter soaps are good for shampooing the hair. I've used them many times in the past. Namely, epicurean and Olivia. When I run out of my current shampoo....thats what i'll be using.

I would imagine however, that short hair is more suitable to this type of shampooing.

What olive oil soap do you use in particular? I wonder if I could use the cube to wash my hair. I have pretty short hair ~ 1.5 inches. I plan on growing it during winter. I am just growing very weary about all of the SLS in all of these products that are over the counter. I am probably going to try some Avalon organics but it got me thinking maybe I can find a body bar and shampoo in one. The NB shampoo I currently use has ammonium sulfate so I am looking to change. I mean this Ammonium lauryl sulfate is even cheaper (according to Wikipedia) to produce and it is the 2nd ingrediant in the shampoo. So much for using higher quality ingrediants as proclaimed on the website.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Chris, are you washing your face (other than bearded area) with that cube? That thing has got my interest.

If you are using for face wash, how's is treating you?

Thanks for the help,
Joe

Joe,

Yes, I have been washing my face with it as well but I only wash my face at night. In the morning when I shave with the cube+paste I consider that a wash as well but indirectly. The stuff is really quite nice as a face wash. It isn't overly drying and I usually don't need moisturizer. If I do I'll just use a little (very small) amount of the conditioner. I could tell a difference in my skin quality about 3 days after I started using it. YMMV but IMO it is better than any other face wash I have tried which includes cetaphil, baxters, noxema, clearasil, proactiv, neutrogena, clean & clear, zirh, and the list goes on and on. I am interested in trying OSEA (recommended by fisherc) but it is really expensive and I am getting good results with this I will stick with it.

Aleppo soap (made in Syria  ) contains olive and laurel oil and works fine on my hair. Used in the Hammams of the Middle east for centuries. Can be ordered at www.manufactum.com.

Yep. I have used the Garden Herb shampoo bar and like it a lot. And the Lime shaving soap. Neither is super foamy but the Garden Herb works well for me--I have very short hair! Now I'm motivated to try some more!

Thanks Chris, I've tried many face washes/soaps too, and settled on Avalon Organics face cleanser a while ago as it is all natural and doesn't dry my skin out like many of the others I've tried. However, I'm always up for something new, and the cube sounds like a quality product.

That bar shampoo sounds very interesting. I might give it a try.

The cube is part of method shaving.

You can look at the method shaving forum here at B&B.

I bought a bar of shampoo from the "Lush" natural cosmetics store. It was a round cake that came in a metal tin, you just rubbed the cake on your wet hair and then put it back in the tin.

It was quite nice IIRC, might have to try another one sometime.

I've used the Lush shampoo bars too with good results. It provided a nice lather, and worked well with my "high & tight" haircut. The shampoo bar wasn't the same texture as a bar of handmade soap. It was more like dried meringue and brittle. It was definitely different, and at least made showering a little more interesting those days.

I would try this, http://www.sensational-indulgences.co.uk/goshopping_28822/cat_19091-Create-Your-Own-Solid-Shampoo-Bar.html

I have shaving soap from this place.. Absolutely wonderful... Try it..

I have used shampoo bars for some years now, exellent stuff - havent tried the ones from Sensational Indulgences yet - but other stuff from eBay..

Very interesting replies everyone. I have tried some of Lush's stuff and was not impressed with their shaving gear. I have also tried some of their face washes ie. Coalface, and Ocean Salt. The coalface was too drying and the ocean salt has some stuff in it that makes me break out. I also tried their Cosmetic Lad moisturizer and it is just so heavy it can only be used during very dry cold times. IMO they are a little overpriced although they do have some things. My girlfriend likes some of their stuff.

I went ahead and bought some kiss my face olive oil soap since I don't want to waste my cube on my hair. I also got some Oregon Soap Co. tea tree and calendula soap (smells very nice). I will post on how the olive oil soap works as a shampoo. I may try the tea tree soap out as a shampoo as well.

Also I would like to add that the "Cube" and Kiss My Face olive oil bars look nothing alike. The Kiss My Face looks more processed and not as high of quality. On the bright side it is a more mild scent than the cube when it first comes out of the package, although I never thought the cube smelled bad. I will not attempt to shave with the Kiss My Face bar.
