Hey all, reporting in from southern california. I've been browsing around the forums for about the past week, and I'm still taking in more information than I can handle. I've picked up a merkur hd, along with a few of the merkur platinum de blades. Just got back from using it for the first time, just a N-S pass, and it went along quite well. Came out with a couple of nicks as expected, but no irritation bumps, and I can already feel the difference in comparison to my mach 3. Looking forward to all of your posts, and thanks to all of you who posted any information on the forums, because I've gone through quite a bit of it, and it has all helped me make my first REAL wet shave experience awesome!

yeah, i can remember my first DE shave.. it was definately not love at first shave, but it grew on me. the fact that i was trading razor bumps for razor burn was a welcome relief in the beginning. now there is none of that to deal with, so that's the reason i stuck with it because even when i couldn't shave with it very well, the tradeoff was better than years of experience with a cartridge razor.

i think the reason most people don't use a DE is because no one taught them how. heck my dad and grandpa don't even know how to use one correctly. they shave, but they were never really taught how to use one so they jumped into the cartridge/electric world when it came along.

To the next batch that send me the fuzzy welcomes:

Thanks!

Josh:

I think I fell in love BEFORE the first shave, I was really nervous before the first one, but once I started, it was like pure magic [partly, well, actually mostly thanks to everyone posting on B&B]

It's been 3 days since my first shave, and tonight was my third shave

I definitely agree with your logic regarding why most people dont use DE's, my dad is now on the electric bandwagon
