How many shave can you get for Derby Extra and Red Personna blades?

Lately, I use the Personna blades like twice for 2 or 3 pass. How often I change the blade for each shave? Because my skin get red rash and nicks after I shave. I really like Derby Extra but I feel the blade is little sharp and also I like is Personna which I had no problem but the only things is my neck is always get red rash.

When I shave, I shave down and then shave up and also across my neck which is across the grain.

Chris,

I use Red Packs exclusively now.

Really, the answer to your question is "it depends." It depends on the thickness of your beard...the quality of your lather, shave and blade angle etc.

If you ask 100 different people, they will tell you they each get different numbers of shaves per blade. This is a topic that has been covered ad nauseum here on the site because everyone's face is slightly different.

I personally do a three pass shave every day with touch up. I can get a single Red Pack blade to last 4-5 days of shaving (usually 4). If your beard is thicker...you may get less shaves. If your beard is really thin...you may get more.

Your description of how you shave is a bit difficult to use in determining your blade life. What is the direction of your beard growth on your face? Everyone's beard grows differently...mine grows down on the cheeks & chin, across my neck sideways with three specific spots of multi-directional growth. As such, I have to shave a certain way each time to get irritation free shaves.

I recommend taking a couple of days off, analyzing your beard growth and then re-attacking your shave with a new blade.

^^what he said. I can generally get 4-5 shaves out of a red pack personna. it varies from blade to blade. I like the gillette 7 o'clocks but found I could only get about 2-3 shaves before it started drawing blood.

About 5 from Derbys and Crystals, I think. Have not tried the Red IPs. I do a 4 pass shave most of the time. I don't really keep track of how many shaves per blade I get anymore. I change the blade when they start to pull or irritate.

I'm getting 4-5 out of my red pack IP in a variety of razors. I'm doing 3 full passes plus a touchup/blade buffing pass on my chin and throat each day.

Before I switched to a straight (and I still use my Gillette SS w/ RPP if I'm in a hurry to shave), I actually gave "hand stropping" a try. I was surprised how well it worked. I got upwards of 10 shaves from one blade, and I don't have what you'd call light beard hair. Without the stropping, 5-7 was fairly normal for me.

3 from a Derby. 4 from a Red IP.

2-3 shaves.

But I tells yah I prefer going for 2 per blade. The sharpest blade gives me the smoothest shave and that's what I value the most. I used to try and stretch out my blades and I'd get 4-5 shaves per but now I feel I'd much rather use the sharpest blade possible to get the smoothest shave I can get.

3-4 shaves seems to be the average and it is for me too with red pack personnas. Being a bit of a miser I do try to get more from them but usually just end up taking much longer to shave and/or giving myself irritation. I need to remember that sometimes less is more.
