Hi All

I managed to get some of these after seeing the generally positive reviews of them on here. I've just noticed mine are made in Russia rather than the Czech Republic. I haven't shaved with one yet and I'm hoping they are as good as the Czech ones.

Anybody have any experience of the Russian made silver blues?

Cheers

George

I was fortunate to come across a pack of these and I had no issues shaving with them. I received a nice shave.

If they are made in the Gillette factory in St Petersburg there is a very good chance that they will be very good as this factory also produces Gillette Yellow 7 o'clocks and Super Iridiums a couple of my favorites. I am also waiting for an order of silver blues to arrive...I'm now hoping they are of Russian extraction.

Wow. I'm not sure I'd want to use blades which had been extracted from a Russian. Or for that matter, extracted from one of any nationality.

Better than being PASSED by a Russian quality-control inspector.

I fond them in a local dugstore, but I'm not sure if these are the same that you meant:

These are made in Russia:

I haven't tried them yet. A few months ago they were packed in the well known Gillette-plastic-dispenser just like the swedish G's, now they come in a simple cardbox.

Where can you get either of these on the net??

We are seeing more and more of these cardboard box Gillettes (including the Platinums) but we can't buy them for love nor money!!

The Czech version of these is reviewed here http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=19690

Mine have the identical packaging but are made in St Petersburg.

I got mine from a UK ebay seller. Don't know if I'm allowed to post the link here. The seller doesn't seem to offer international shipping.

Sorry, I have no idea where to get them on the net.

Those blades that come in the plastic-dispenser are available over the net, but I have no idea where to order the cardbox-version.

I'm also not sure If the plastic-dispenser version is made in Russia, too. There is no hint printed on the cardbox of them that they are made in Russia, so maybe they perform different.

Ah, I saw that one, I thought you were talking about an online shop, not an ebay vendor.

Inspector 71 was very kind to send me some of these blade to try out and measure.
Let me say that I believe that individual shaving experience is a better idicator of a blade that will be right for you tan any sort of micro photos or measurements.
That being said I have been shaving with these blades and also took micro pics and did some basic measurements.
These blades are made in the St Petersburgh facility. They are a very high quality blade, in my estimation, and are very similar to the excellent Super Iridiums that are made there.
Like all St. Petersburgh blades, they do have the annoying glue spots.
The blades, like most are 0.01mm(0.004") thick.
They are ground with a double bevel. The first bevel starts around 0.4mm from the edge, is about 5° to the main flat and has grind marks.
The secondary bevel starts around 0.115mm from the edge is going down another 5°. This bevel is fairly smooth even at 500X mag.
The edge itself fools straight and regular.
The included angle of the bevels would be around 20.0°
Now for the shaving part.
I would rate these blades as very excellent. They are equal to the Super Iridium in both sharpness and comfort. Longevity remains to be seen,
I used the same blade for my third shave this morning, in my Futur(set on 3)
,andf it was as comfortable and as close as the first.
attached are some photos. The first two are the Silver Blue, the last photo is a Super Iridium photograped at the same mag as the first Super Blue. Sorry the SI is upside down.
Thanks again to Inspector 71 (George) for sending me these blades!
Sincerely,
Mike.

Glad I found this thread - I've been looking for pictures of the Silver Blues under mag.
Good to see why they are my favorite! :thumbup1:
