I've just tried a Kai blade from Japan (well, actually from Guido :001_smile)

All I can say is . . . wow.

Are these similar to feathers?

Do others rate these highly as well?

I think I've just had my best shave ever.

I hate them. I found feathers 10x better....Kai blades are just as sharp but very very harsh compared to feathers as i find.

I'm very fond of KAI blades, and I like them as much as I like Feathers. If they were cheaper than Feathers I'd probably use them more. Indeed they are sharp, and sharp blades can be harsh -- it's a trade off I think is quite fair.

It seems that the really sharp blades are sensitive to your choice of razors too. I think my best experience with the KAIs was with a 1940s Aristocrat and a Slant.

So far I have used two blades each of Kai and Feather. I did not notice a difference between them.

When you say "between them" do you mean both Kais and both Feathrs performed the same OR there's no difference between Kais and Feathers?

Do Kai make Feathers or vice versa? (Are there really two Japanese blade companies? Or are they the same?)

Whatever, it's put me in the mood to try some Feathers. Also, must a be a mark of my improved technique if I can shave with a Jap and not draw blood. I am a Samurai!

The blades are manufactured by two different concerns. I agree that the blades are similar. Both perform very well, and I find both to be extra sharp.

Kai blades are great blades but also very expensive and hard to find. Cost per blade: $0.60 ($60.00/100 at razorbladesandmore.com). They consistently give me a BBS with no nicks, cuts, or irritation.

They are great but pricey!!! Not worth twice the cost of Feathers for me.

Where does one find Kai?

Here are three of my sources for the Kai blade. They are indeed very expensive.

have a couple coming myself ill report back on them. while i like feathers they dont work as well for me. but i do like very sharp blades just the feather did not want to cut my hair for more than 1 really good shave. it will be interesting to so how i like them but i agree i do not think i would buy them at the price they are they are VERY expensive much more so than my favorite blades. there are some other blades very close in sharpness to a feather imo that for me last 3-4 shaves and shave just as well or better.
