I can't believe I even thought of calling this thing (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=012&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=220044368144&rd=1&rd=1) new. Anyway, just picked it up on Ebay. Wondering how it will clean up and shave. I am thinking of using it as my starter razor. I figured I would clean it up, then have it honed by someone else, and use it to learn shaving and stropping. Then when it needs honing, I'll start shaving with my Wacker, and learn how to hone with this.

Point is, I don't have to care if I hurt it.

It is pretty messy at the moment. There is definitely going to be a pitting in a couple of places in the grind. On the other hand though, I bought it because the edge actually looks very clean to me. What do you think?

I figured I'd just go at it with fine steel wool and some metal polish and see how much I can clean her up.

I don't know much about it, except that it is Henckels, so I am counting on my understanding that any razor stamped with that name was a pretty decent shaver.

I just picked up my first one (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showpost.php?p=103790&postcount=1) too Moses. I plan on sending it off to Joe Chandler to have it honed and will go from there. I might see about cleaning it up too, so I am interested in any replies on this as well. Could it be as easy as taking a Dremel with flap wheels to it up to a polish?

Nice catch for $12.50 Mo. I have paid more for less out on eBay. That should clean up fine and I think you will pleasantly suprised at what you end up with. Use Maas or Flitz polish and also walk your way up through the grades of Steel Wool 00/000/0000 and you should end up with a finish that you can be happy with.

If you have a Dremel rotary tool, the polishing wheel and buffing wheel attachments will help close the deal for you. If you need a referal to a 'honemeister', pm me and I'll recommend a few superstars for you. For that matter, if you have any questions as you are working on your project, drop me a line and I'll help if I can. Also SRP has a forum dedicated to restoration that is full of great advice and techniques.
