Hi there,
I stumbled across this increadible site just a few days ago while looking for a cheap razor-cartridge supplier. I have since become addited to reading all the articles and reviews.
I have been a wet shaver all my life (well...since i was 13 anyway...now im 29). I have a pretty coarse beard, and spent my first post adolescent years struggling with razor tugging, soreness, dryness, and general discomfort. I have spent years trying different pre shave scrubs, cartridge razors, gels and balms, and have made great progress....
My most successful routine to date has been to start with a hot shower where I used Clinque face scrub as directed on my beard area. After the shower, I would apply Clinique M-shave gel, and shave with a gillete sensor excel. Shaving has always been very strickly with the grain for the most comfortable result (or else sorness, dryness, some ingrowing hairs etc). Shaving has been follwed by clinque post shave balm to good effect. This routine has worked well for me over the last year or so.
However, the price of cartridges is crazy, and I cant stand the amount of clogging I get! (I ditched the mach3 and returned to sensor excel for that reason alone). Also, I still get these minor cases of ingrowing hairs around my adam's apple that really piss me off.
So like I said, I found this site a few days ago, and have formed a strange the romance with the idea of DE shaving. I was in my local Boots this weekend, I saw a wilkinson sword DE razor. It was so cheap I gave it a go.
For this first DE shave. I was so excited. I followed my usual preshave routine, and simply used the DE instead of my sensor excel. I took it very easy and very slowly. I really tried to feel for the correct cutting angle, and I let the blade and weight of the razor do all the work. I stopped myself after a single WTG pass.
I managed to survive without any cuts or nicks! The shave was not as smooth as my gillete excel, but obviously this was only my first DE shave and I fully understand that there is a learning curve. The results were also not close at all...again this was probably all to do with the learning curve, and not overdoing the first DE shave.
So, after this strange few days, Im already addicted. I have just placed an order for the following:
1) Edwin Jagger Diffusion DE razor - Lined Chrome plated http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?ltr=E&t=69755
2) Derby Razor blades
3) Edwin Jagger Medium best badger shaving brush http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?ltr=E&t=12299
4)Geo F Trumper Coconut oil shaving cream (I like the idea of a coconut smell at the moment.
Cant wait for the delivery!!!!!
