View Full Version : I may have found my blade -- at Rite-Aid?!

I've been working my way through a couple of sample packs and was on the verge of ordering a lifetime supply of IPs when I came across a 15-pack of Rite Aid chrome platinums I purchased while waiting for my "real" blades to arrive. Just for the heck of it, I tried one.

Three shaves in, I find myself doing far less touch-up to get BBS. The shave is smooth, and the alum block sting is significantly less.

Two potential drawbacks: the blades are relatively expensive at close to 50 cents per blade; and several threads comment that quality can be variable.

Upsides: the blades are marked "Made in the USA" (nice to know we can still get something right) and locally available.

Can't find a full review of these here, and don't want to start one based on my little experience with them, however positive. I've purchased a second pack from another store and I'll work though a few more before posting further.

Until then, any other comments about these blades?

If they work for you that is great, but I certainly wouldn't pay that much per blade. The Red IP's that I use are around 10 cents per blade and I love how they shave.

What's a good online source for red IPs?

West Coast Shaving. Here's the link to them:

They are probably made by American Safety Razor, and you can get ASR blades much cheaper at WalMart or a military exchange. A couple of dollar stores I've investegated stock them, too.

Funny you should mention Rite Aid blades. Just last week I stopped into a store to check out their shaving supplies. Those blades you mentioned were on sale as in buy one get one free. Got two 15/packs for a total of just over $7. They shave great.

I've seen these as well. Guess I need to give them a try!

They're the same as CVS, Wal-Mart, and Walgreens store blades.

That's to say, the Quality Control is much tighter on the CVS and Rite Aid blades then they are at the other stores. Wal Mart, for example has a 50/50 ratio of crap to gold. You will probably throw out half a pack each time.

Plus, at some point, a different batch of those blades will come in that may not b up 2 par as mentioned earlier.
