I picked this Beauty off of ebay on 3/31/09

The razor appeared to show no signs of ever being used and the case was unscratched and in perfect condition.
After cleaning it with Scrubbing Bubbles and polishing with Flitz it looks brand new.The razor a 1949 SS shares my birth year, which I'm very happy to have been able to add to my collection.
I used it for the first time this morning using a Derby blade and got a very smooth and mild shave. Now I know why these razors get such rave reviews. I'm going to love using this razor!

Bobby, very nice score indeed. The 40's SS is one of the best razors by far IMHO of coarse but as you know many folks here agree. Glad you've enjoyed it. This will give you a life time of awesome shaves...Thanks for sharing your score with us.

Nice pick up. I find the vintage Gillette are shavers and values.

Congrats on the score! I really like my 1949; it's the razor I've been using for several weeks now and it does a fine job.

Very nice. If you don't mind my asking, what did you end up paying for it? It's been a while since I bought one. I think the last one I got cost me around $8.00, but I hear the going rate has increased quite a bit.

That's a great razor. Congratulations! Let the RAD begin! Don't stop at just the 40's style. Try the other superspeeds as well. They are all wonderful razors!

Those are darn good shavers and have more than a few big fans. Enjoy!
How are you guys able to nail it down as a 1948-1950 40's style super speed that was actually manufactured in 1949?
Does the case provide the actual year of production?

Well, the red styrene case was introduced in 1949, but I'm not sure that it also wasn't used in 1950. The only way to be somewhat sure would be if you had the original blade pack that came with that razor and check the date code on the blades. Even then, the blades could have come from a prior period and just included with the razor.
