Just won a lot on e-bay that included the following straights:
7/8 Thiers Issard Sheffield silver steel with wooden scales;
6/8 Dovo Swedish steel classic;
7/8 Wacker Bartman with what appear to be rosewood scales;
6/8 Henckels.
According to the description, the Thiers, Wacker and Henckels were all professionally sharpened within the last month.
The lot also included:
A Dovo linen/leather strop;
A Thiers padle strop;
White and yellow Dovo pastes (linen and leather dressing);
Syringes of 1 and .5 micron diamond abrasive paste
Norton 4k/8k hone.
Here's the link to the auction so you can see the pictures:

In talking to the company that sold the items, it appears that someone decided to try out straight shaving, spent a lot of dough on top quality stuff and then decided it wasnt' for them.
I can't wait for this stuff to arrive!

Thanks DJ. I was pretty pleased - I've never spent that much on an e-bay lot before, but I couldn't pass it up.
I've got hanging and padle strops, so will likely be looking to sell the ones in the lot.

Great score, Raf. Do go easy, at first. It's a whole different ball game.:thumbup1:
By the way- if your Shumate says Shumate Cutlery Co., it was made between 1920 and 1932. If it says Shumate Razor Co., St. Louis, it was made between 1904 and 1919. If it says Austin, Texas, then it's from 1900-1904.

I can't take all the credit. I got the idea from Quagmire.
http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=6958
I didn't see a longer one in that style. They had one that had a lot more "pegs", but they were staggered, and while it would be great for a thin tie, it would get in the way of a razor handle.

Tom,
You have a scuttle. Yes, you keep a cake of soap on the top and fill with hot water. Your brush goes down the side opening to soak. A variety of soap makers make cakes that are designed to sit in a scuttle. T&H comes to mind first, but there are many others.
Enjoy!

Landed a 50ml bottle of LP #9. The way things are going it may be the last one in captivity. I wonder if we sent in a petition here and possibly at basenotes and SMF, I wonder if we could get Penhaligons to change their mind on the discontinuation. Well, wishful thinking. Nice haul, Joe. On the adjustable, if the bottom of the handle (the TTO, or twist-to-open part) is slightly larger around than the rest of the handle, it's a Fat Boy.

Anyway recieved:

Weishi DE (not sure about this but I figure I'll play with it, seems like it has a decent heft from just holding it)
5 Dorco blades (came with the Weishi)
Muehle boar brush
Edit: oh yeah, also purchased a new lather bowl from World Market (I think it is supposed to be a Japanese rice bowl).
Some of it will probably make it into future pics (going to try doing pictoral SOTD if I get the time).

Yea this Hydrolast stuff works way better than any creams/soaps I have tried. My skin loves it. This is my first sandalwood product so I am in no way an expert but it does smell very good. Much better than the Art of Shaving IMO, the only other sandalwood cream I have smelled. The tonic smells fantastic I just put some on combined with the conditioner after a french clay mask. I just saw that CAR raised the price of the sandalwood by $5 so I guess I lucked out and got it for a discount last weekend. With the mysore sandalwood oil (yes he uses the real stuff) becoming more rare it will continue to increase the cost as it is much harder to get from India.

Joe,
By the way. I am originally from Chicago. Born in Skokie raised on the North side then moved to Rockford. My cousin is a commodities broker on the Merc and has offered to help me get into if I decide to (I have a finance background). I have turned it down as I don't know if I want the stress. Do you enjoy trading options? I have studied futures/forwards and know that it can be pretty complicated stuff.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the comments/info on the hydrolast! I know I'll end up trying it one day...I've actually had my shopping cart loaded up to the gills a few times but just haven't pulled the trigger yet.
As for trading....never a dull moment. It can be a very rewarding experience, and definitely has its ups and downs. Trading options and/or commodities is the most volatile area of the market and can be extremely stressful. But you get used to it after a while. For me, now....its a rush.

Thomas
Tom, those soaps look great pal! Enjoy them! :biggrin:
My Plisson HMW arrived today, along with a tub of Joris shave soap.
Cheers, DJ.
Well. well. well, well, well.................
Joris has their shaving soap made in England and the HMW of Plisson isn't always looking as HMW....it looks like Plisson is following Simpsons regarding the consistency of their badger supplies......

Peter, seeing that you're in Holland also, you must know De Vergulde Hand shave soap. I have some, and I love it. Have you ever tried it, and if so, what do you think of it?

Thank you!
I can't wait to shave, tonight. I think the Fresh Lime is more impressive, while the Wild Orange is more subtle. I believe I'm going for the Wild Orange. :cool:
I have to choose a blade, too. US Personna is next in the rotation, but I think I'll go for an Israeli or a Derby. Or, maybe a Feather. :confused:

Careful with a Feather in a Vision. Easiest way to tear up your face this side of an Artist Club.

Okay. I think I'll stick with the normal rotation and start over with the US Personna. They are always pretty gentle.

A Proraso Omega Boar
This one to wash my face with. I've been lathering my face wash and scrubbing my face with the one I already have. This way I'll have one to be used strictly for washing face, and one for shave soaps & creams. :eek6::crazy:

...so I won't have to throw my Proraso away when I switch to badger? In other words, a face wash brush will be my defensive argument when SWMBO tells me I have too much shaving stuff.
Just had these delivered:
Kiss My Face: Peaceful Patchouli, Lavender and Shea, and Peaches and Creme

You could also mention that shaving brushes are investments that "hold" their value, and can be passed down to future generations. :thumbup1:
Enjoy the KMF's

Peter, De Vergulde Hand is a soap that I treasure, in fact, after Erasmic, it's my second favorite. I even know what ook vor de gevoelige huid means in Dutch. It means also for sensitive skin, and believe me, this stuff treats my sensitive skin wonderful. When I lather up with it, and shave, it feels like soft, gentle kisses from my lovely wife!

From Renee at Barberculture in the Netherlands:
-Mama Bear limes EO shaving soap
-Arko commando cream (packaging is hilarious - for shaving when on mission in Kurdistan?:lol: )
-some packs of blades (incl. Sharps), a gift from Renee, a fine gentleman as we all know. :thumbup1:
