My wife found a Gem Junior in pristine condition with a case the looks great and instructions and a box of blades. So, I have two questions. Is $18 too much to pay for this? Also, would a Gem Junior be 3 1/2" long? I don't know the difference between a 1912 and Junior.
If anyone happens to live in Eugene, Oregon, you can this cost $5 dollars. It is an auction, but not Ebay.

Blake, I would say, if it is in as good a shape as you say, with case and all. Then yes it would be worth the money, but there are those who would argue this point. Your last line is not making sense to me, but I have had a beer!

It is an auction. Apparently Goodwill has some things up for auction. So, currently, it is at $5 with no bids. I mean really, who looks online at Goodwill to find razors? Oh ya, my wife! They only ship FedEx and it cost $13 to ship here. So, if you live in Eugene, OR, you could get a really great deal. Usually, when i buy something, I want to only pay enough that i know I will earn a little extra. This is to fund my AD's. This, however, won't do that. I would just keep it myself. So, if someone else can get a great deal, I am happy to share information. I want to see this saved from the Goodwill dungeon and returned to it's rightful place in a shave den of love.

I've seen loose Gem Juniors on ebay for less but they generally require a lot of cleaning up and do NOT include a case. I'd say the razor you describe, pristine condition, with case, and shipped to you is well worth $18. Does it have a metal handle or one of the thick, black, bakelite handles? Go for it, you won't be sorry, I have one of the stubby, fat handle 1912 Juniors and it shaves like a champ.

I just had a look at this razor. I would think it might well sell on the 'bay for about $25.00 to $35.00 or so.
Here are some completed auctions from the 'bay. The first one had a beautiful wooden box:

Thank you. One question, what is the difference between these and a 1912. Either I am mistaken on what a 1912 looks like,or they look very similar.

You're welcome. These are all 1912's. The 1912 model had various types of handles and they were made over a very very long period of time. The patent number says "1912" that's why we call them that here. The heads are all the same and they unscrew from the hands very easily. (you can see that in the picture of the one with the wooden box) So the handles are all interchangeable. They come with plastic handles of different types and various types of metal handles. The goodwill razor has a very beautiful and ornate pattern. I have one in brass and one in chrome. They are very well balanced and the handle is solid not hollow and so it has a very good weighty feel in the hand.

That was what I was beginning to wonder. Now, I have another question. I acquired one today that pivots from the front (Blade edge) as opposed to the rear. Any idea what this is?

I have one in fact just like that, pivots in the front, it says "Ever Ready: patent applied for" inside the head but no date. I've not shaved with it yet so I don't know how it compares with the 1912.

I thought the 1912s were only made into the late 20s? This would mean they were made a little less than twenty years. Do you know what the case is??

Dave has posted on this, I've forgotten, but I have an idea it was a couple of decades, possibly more.

Here is my GEM Junior 1912 that was made around 1943 as a military issue.
