View Full Version : Doesn't A/S mask the scent of your soap?

Everyone here has an assortment of different scented soaps and creams, as well as an assortment of aftershaves. So if I use a lime scented cream, or whatever scent I feel like that day, and then after I shave, put on some Clubman's or English Leather, or whatever else I feel like - wouldn't that cover up the scent of the lime? I'm not talking about some of the fairly-unscented balms, like Nivea, mind you, but all the assorted tonics. The point is, I used lime to shave with because I wanted to smell like lime, and my brain tells me that putting on Clubman's afterward would make me smell like Clubman's.

Typically the scent of the cream/soap doesn't linger on your face, so wear whatever A/S you like.

The only scent that has ever lingered on my face for more than 5 minutes is taylor's sandlewood... even then it wasn't too long.
I'd say if you want to smell like lime... get a lime A/S
so yes, your brain is right

Yeah, I never considered the scent of the cream to be for ANYTHING more then my own pleasure DURING the shave... Once the shave is done and the face is rinse the scent of the cream usually only lingers in the bathroom a bit, not on my face...
Actually for that matter, I usually don't consider an AS to be for a lingering scent either.. .Much longer then a cream obviously, but most tend to be somewhat fleeting. If I want a lasting scent, I'll turn to my colognes... For that reason, most of my AS's are lightly scented, or if they are heavily scented can be layered with my cologne's with good results.

I always (well, for the few months since I've gotten interested) assumed that the scent of the soap/cream was more for the enjoyment of the shave, rather than the lingering smell. That's what aftershave/cologne is for.

Some people like to layer scents...some do not...as always, do what you enjoy. The creams, soaps, after shave scents don't last very long anyway...u
