Is it okay to strop my razor just for the sake of practice, or should stropping be limited to only before/after shaving?

As long as it is correct stropping, I don't think that it will hurt it.
If you are using to much pressure then that is a problem.

I have two straight razor shaves under my belt so far, and am really awkward at stropping, so I would like to work on it as much as I can. Thanks for the help.

You're welcome.

What strop do you have?

Nice. Does the wapi have the stainless steel scales? Are they slippery?

yes, ss scales. Not really sllippery to me. But I am a 90 pound weakling with small hands, so they are rather hefty; but I have nothing to compare them to. Waiting for payday so I can order another razor.

feel free to strop away. so long as you do it right, theres no problem. Just be careful not to roll your edge.

My wapi doesnt have any jimps, so it can be a little slippery. That coupled with its weight make it a little tricky, but still an awesome razor.

When you get another you will be surprised at the weight difference, those steel scales are heavy!!

Is there a reliable way to tell if you've rolled the edge on a straight razor?
