View Full Version : Indulgence of the Night 10/30 - 11/5

Post about that great meal, smoke, drink, or Halloween candy binge.
Last night, I made chocolate mousse with creme anglaise for my daughter. Valhrona chocolate, egg whites, and heavy cream for the former; egg yolks, milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla bean for the latter.
I do it prior to every Halloween, so that all of the candy she'll get tomorrow will taste like crap by comparison, and she won't overindulge. It's one of the few ways I'm still able to outsmart her.

That is the "house blend" from a local Tobacconist, Comerford and Sons. I'm new to pipe smoking, so I don't have any idea how to describe this to you other than "nice" and "a little sweet but not very sweet" - which I'm sure doesn't help you a whole lot.

Sue, that is actually a fairly inexpensive Brigham "System Pipe" (http://www.brighampipes.com/2006%20Update.htm)... the fact that it looks OK (nice?), is reputed to function well and is relatively inexpensive were the reasons that I picked it up... well, I actually picked it up on a bit of a whim, but I had looked into pipes before...

I love ramen noodles... I actually eat them as a treat now and again. I love the chicken flavoured ones with a little hot sauce... sometimes I'll add fresh veggies and or meat to them as well... also, and I admit this is a little odd, I'll eat them dry... either with the stock/seasoning spread over them or (and this is better IMO) with some peanut butter... mmmm... ramen with PB....

Freshman year I had this one keg cup (the cheap plastic cups, generally red or blue on the outside and white on the inside) that I used to microwave my easy mac with. At the end of the year, that cup had shrinked to about 1/4th its original size. I wonder where i put that thing **looks around room**

So very very good, though. On of my favorites. If only it wasn't such a pain to brown like 10lbs of onions for an hour, stirring every minute or so....

A couple of fingers of Glenmorangie along with the pipe. Tinder Box Wilshire aka Lane 1Q I understand. The Wilshire wasn't bad...but nothing great about it. Definitely public friendly because the smoke smells much better than it tastes...not that it tastes bad, but doesn't have much flavor.
Smelling freshly ground coffee is an important part of the ritual.
I used to think that rusticated pipes were too crude looking, but then came to realize that they have a beauty all their own. They can also smoke cooler, perhaps because of the fractal-like surface area.
And what's with the puny 50g tin of Marlin?

Tim and Jay, that is a piece of Greek briar that is at least 40 years old. I don't think there is any more like it. In my grad school days in New Haven, CT, there was (and still is) a great old tobacconist called the Owl Shop. It is one of the oldest tobacconists in the US. The original proprietor was Greek, and he had a bunch of pieces made in the homeland. I have two different shapes, and they smoke great.
Scott- I love stories like that. Good find!
Michael- Where did you get the Stonehaven? It may be the single finest tobacco made. Sip it slowly with a glass of port.

The Stonehaven was a gift from "S" (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showpost.php?p=99606&postcount=42) (thanks "S"!) as previously mentioned in Acquisitions Monday October 30th - Sunday November 5th
I'm new to pipes (this is the only the 2nd time I've smoked my pipe), but I must say that I thought that the Stonehaven was very nice...
