But alas, mine are melted, except for the Vanilla.

I have the Pine & Cedarwood, Anise & Lavender, B&B, and Lime (in tub). All are superlative. I gave away my Original Rose (Oh, the burn!), and the Sandalwood (which I regret).

I would have to say my favorite is Sandalwood. My favorite thing with the shave stick format is the ability to mix fragrances: Mix lime with Trumper coconut or mix chocolate with peppermint etc. :thumbup1:

And here I am toiling away with my lone B&B shave stick. It is wearing away steadily though. Shave 'nub' is probably a more apt description now.

Rik, that picture deserves some captioning, which ones are which?

Hi Clark,
The answer is no and yes! (How's that for a copout?) There are two shave scents that you do not have, that I have and I enjoy immensely. Those scents are Pine and Cedarwood and Grapefruit and Peppermint. Anytime I use the first, the fragrance takes me back to my childhood in the wintry northern pine forests. What a delight! Can you say pampelmousse? If you really enjoy fresh grapefruit, the second scent is unbelieveable. One word of caution, this fragrance smells so good, it started an awkward case of the drools when I first started using it. I had to relather the (left) corner of my mouth repeatedly. Another suggestion, if you like Earl Gray tea, don't go without the Bergamot. Yet another word of caution, bergamot essential oil is purported to lower your resistance to uv rays (or was that ir?). So you may wiish to use another shave scent if you are going to the beach. I have a special place for lavender. I really enjoy its fresh clean scent. It's also like the Pine and Cedarwood in that it evokes pleasant memories of my childhood. If you are not familiar with lavender, it is also known as Mediterranean Mint. It grows throughout the Provence area of France and regions too numerous to mention in Italy, not to mention areas of the British Isles too. Great stuff. I just scored some Rose Geranium but haven't had the chance to try it yet..
So that's kind of the yes and no of it. I would recommend adding those first two or threee or four to your lineup for the pleasure of the scent and senses. If you have any aversions to those scents, don't.. While I really enjoy them, YMMV.
I have steered clear of the Espresso and other food items.
"Why?" you say.
It's early morning and it is at least another 20 or 30 minutes till I sit down to breakfast.. Now, do I need anything to stimulate my appetite? Look at the mischief the grapefruit created! :biggrin1:
Oh, I try to have the Frankincense and Myrrh on hand for winter holiday mornings... Neat fragrance. I think detect some labadnum in it too. Have fun and enjoy the scents and the holidays too!

I agree with Ron on the Pine and Cedarwood - really lovely stuff. I like to finish it off with some Woods of Windsor aftershave to keep the theme alive. I don't have the grapefruit, but now that Ron has described it, I think I have to have it.

I can also heartily recommend the anise and lavender. Sort of like Good and Plenty candy. A bit more subtle than the other scents, but one of my faves.

I also agree with Ron that Pine and Cedarwood and Grapefruit and Peppermint are two of my favorite QEDman shave scents.

Appreciate your feedback on QED. Making a purchase today. I have enjoyed my wet shaving routine and QED is a big part of it. I just can't say enough about the products. I have never received such a great shave with anything else.

Happy Holidays Guys!

Charles, how about porting a couple of these scents to the other format? Pleeease!

Update!!! Just tried the Rose Geranium today.. Verrrrrrry Nice! Not quite the house-filling (saturating?) fragrance of the old original Wild Rose, but then again no tinglies either! Have to update my tinker toys picture to include it and the anise lavender, but more tomorrow.

I don't find the peppermint to be the dominant scent in the shave stick. The grapefruit smells great, a very clean, citrusy smell to it.

Greetings Mahesh,
I am so preoccupied with the grapefruit that I never really notice the peppermint. I think the real issue resolves to how sensitive your nose is to the peppermint versus the grapefruit. The grapefruit is all-encompassing when I use this soap. Really, the only thing missing is the seeds.

Thanks for your feedback. Though the Grapefruit seems divine and quite dominant, i gather the peppermint still comes through somewhat. Therefore i opted to order the Salter's Citrus shave cream and the Rose Geranium shave stick from Charles instead.

Best, MaheshMight I suggest hotter water when building the lather? I really enjoyed the scent.. It quickly filled the shave shack with delightful fragrance. BUT, that is why I cautioned about individual sensitivities with the grapefruit mint, one man's meat, another's poison. Do you use a latherbowl? I warm mine and also rub the shave stick in it to enhance the experience.:001_wub:

Ron, I'm probably not getting the full effect of the scent as i have only used it for touch up purposes, and did not lather it. After you apply it to your face and lather it with a brush, do you then transfer it to a shave bowl to work the lather some more? The only time i don't lather in a bowl is when i use a shave stick; maybe i will try your method.
I also like to sometimes rub the stick on a wet face, and then lather up a separate cream in a bowl and then apply the brush with lathered cream onto the face; i feel having the shave stick soap undercoating the cream give me plenty of glide together with ample protection.
Thanks,
Mahesh

Mahesh, with the shave sticks, I first lather a few minutes on my face, and then hit the ole latherin vessel. The lather really explodes, and I can continue with great satisfaction.

Scotto and Ron, Thanks for the tips; i have never lathered with a bowl when a shave stick is the source; i will try it. How do you guys compare the lather produced by clear glycerine soaps to the tallow based soaps of say a Floris or a T&H?
Thanks, Mahesh

Scotto
12-10-2005, 04:49 PM
Mahesh, in all honesty, the lathers I can achieve with creams, tallow-based soaps, and glycerin soaps are not all that different. How one achieves that state on those three options, is quite different, however. If I were forced to differentiate, I would say that the glycerin soaps tend to produce a lather which is slightly more airy and light compared to a tallow-based soap. The T&H, Floris, Harris, etc. soaps create a lather which is, dare I say, unctuous? All provide tons of lubrication and superlative shaves, if one is up to the task of mastering them.

Scotto, Unctuous huh:eek: ? Fatty and oily was the dictionary's definition. Damn, perfect word, and how often do you get to use that word?
