A question for those in the know about Single Edge razors. Do you, or should you, strap your blade. I remember Dave saying the SE razor was like a "straight edge razor on a stick'". Last night I used a 1901 model Gen Junior and thats exactly what it felt like.
My razor came with a little device in which a blade should be inserted and used as a holder for strapping. There was a little instruction pamphlet included that stated, "the edge of any razor in improved by strapping the blade before or after each shave."
That makes sense. From working with knives I learned that the knife edge becomes "dull" because the edge is very flexible and folds back over itself. When you steel a knife you realign the blade edge and its ready and sharp again. The same should apply to razor blades. You would want to strap a straight edge razor.
