OK guys, its a new week, lets see the new goodies! I'm posting pics as well, but I'll try to list everything:
Wilkinson's Sword Classic Razor
Wilkinson's Sword Blades
Pinaud Lilac Vegetal After Shave
Too many Castle Forbes Samples to count (including Pre-shave, shave cream and ASB's)
Numerous EDT and Cologne Samples (Castle Forbes, Calvin Klein etc. etc.)
Dovo 11/16 Straight (uh oh, its begun)
Erasmic Shave Stick
Speick Shave Stick
Ogallala Bay Rum AS
Musgo Real x2
Arko Lemon Shave Cream
WARS Shave Cream (a second tube, this one is for a future PIF)
Cremo Shave Cream
TOBS Sandalwood
Touch Me Shave Cream
Small Size C.O. Bigelow (for my Dad)
I'm sure I missed something
My pride and joy this week is a matching custom Shave Brush and Razor in Black and White Ebony from our own cooncatbob of Bob's razorworks. Both pieces are absolutely beautiful! These can be seen in the second pic (brush is pre-bloom) and the third pic (brush is post-bloom). These will get reviews in the near future.
Also, I received the "Blues Brothers", a pair of Knotty Badger brushes from our own Rodd (Last Picture). I requested a blue finish. Why, because I'm Air Force for one and two blue is my favorite color. Elwood is the taller/thinner vase shape on the left with a Best Knot and "Joliet" Jake is the shorter/fatter Rooney 3/1 style on the right with a Silvertip Knot. Note: Elwood may appear a little green, I think this is due to Carrie Fisher shooting her Rocket launcher at Jake and Elwood, that or it is one less coat of blue stain. Anyway, in all seriousness I'll also be doing a review of the Blues Brothers very soon.
Seriously, I named a pair of shaving brushes, what is this world coming to?
So, these are my goodies this week (let's see yours):

My order of a new Spyderco Ultra Fine Bench Stone came in this weekend. I got the newer version that comes in 3"x8" instead of the old 2"x8". It works great and reduces the need from using an "X" pattern.
Just picked up some glycerin and some Omega soap:

I was thrilled when I fould out that the Omega soap is available locally.

Thanks. Yes, it is a very nice soap. I like the smell better than my Proraso and the lanolin content is great.

Just won this lot off the 'bay. I feel bad cause I kinda sniped it, but all's fair on the 'bay, right? Hope it wasn't one of you guys I burned. Looks like the New that's in the tech box is in nice shape and the brushes should clean up good. My wife emailed me the link from upstairs with about 30 minutes left. Now she's enabling my RAD!!! I guess she's a keeper!

Scored some Speick AS splash from Rasage Poulin.
I have to say, the combination of Speick cream (another Poulin score from a couple of weeks back) and the AS splash is awesome. This is my new fave (I should say co-fave with Musgo Real cream and AS splash).
I also got a bottle of the Mont St-Michel Ambrée cologne. Nice stuff. Will review it shortly.

My shipment from SCS arrived this afternoon. It contained not only my ordered goodies but graciously donated aftershave sampler sets for the 18 April meet-up in Arlington.
I scored Savory Rose splash and milk, Blue Line splash, Avocado balm, Coconut SC and the very last bottle of Sue's Embrace edt (love that juice).
For those B&Ber's planning to attend the meet-up you may be one of thirteen lucky recipients of aftershave sampler packs. Everything from Lavender to Tony's Choice, from Blue Line to Sandalwood...and much more. Very cool of the ladies of SCS. Mucho gracias! I hope that I don't forget to bring them to the meeting!

Not the prettiest ball-end Old Type out there, but I got it cheap - and I wanted to thank the lady at the antique store for remembering that I had previously asked for razors. Now she has agreed to put all the razors she get in aside for me
The pics are prior to cleaning, unbending of teeth and gluing. Once the 24 houer industrial grade epoxy has set I will post more pics.
I already have a simular ball-end Old Type, where the top cap at some point has been soldered on, in simular condition. It is a nice shaver.

I received my Tony Miller 3" Heirloom "New Standard" Artisan and Practice Strops a couple of weeks ago. After receiving them I decided to add some hardware to my practice strop, because I couldn't get a good grip on the bottom of it. So I ordered a bottom leather cap/dee ring/screws and a top leather cap/metal swivel-snap-ring/screws for the practice strop from Tony. I resisted using the "real" strop until I received the hardware, didn't want to have any mishaps!
They just came today and I immediately added them to the practice strop. What a welcomed addition, it's great. Tony was very patient and helpful, much appreciated!
Here's a couple of pics.
Here's the Practice strop with new hardware.

Today that nice UPS man dropped off from Atlanta Barber Supply -
Master Lilac Vegetal (NOTHING like Pinaud - this smells like lilacs, really, and no cat pee);
Master Topaz (nice, powdery scent - akin to Lord & Master but lighter... more powder);
Pinaud Special Reserve (I gave away my first bottle because at the time I thought it smelled like an post-practice unshowered basketball team... but now it doesn't);
Pinaud Musk (who knows... not as sicky sweet as the Pinaud Citrus Musk or Lime Sec)
Scored this at a small antique store today:

[email protected] I'd like to commend both of these men as well as ssilcox for conducting themselves as true gentlemen. Speedy shipping, nice manners... each of them a pleasure to do business with.
By contrast, I have an auction item that should have been here five times by now that I was hoping to include in this post :mad3:.
The blades are Double Arrows I picked up for around $20 for the both of them to teach myself to hone. I also have been itching to try a larger blade. Now for a hone...

Evening gents. This was a red letter day. I have been off work all week for spring break with my little daughter. We have done a little bit of everything this week but today takes the cake. We met a friend for lunch and remembered the antique mall was a few doors away. What the heck, it was close but I didn't hold much hope since the place has been picked clean these last months. Somebody in town besides me "knows" about the traditional wetshaving movement. Don't know if it is a collector or who but there really isn't any good stuff left around. Till today. We popped in and looked around and were about to head home when I strolled through a booth that had been recently moved from another place in the store. Bingo! This was the stuff of our shaving dreams. First I found a brand new, unopened bottle of D.R. Harris Arlington aftershave...for $6! It was obvious the guy didn't know what he had. Then I hit glass show case and spotted a rather banged up carbide lamp that begged me to look at it. What does that have to do with wet shaving? Nothing. It was the Rolls Razor in nearly perfect condition just below it that really caught my attention. So I asked the clerk to open the case so I could look at it. It turns out it was the guy who rented the booth. It was his day to work. I told him what I wanted to look at and there was no doubt he knew EXACTLY what Rolls Razor was. I was a bit down trodden at this point. He had it marked at $55 and to tell truth, it was worth every bit of it. The case is perfect, there is not ONE SPOT of rust ANYWHERE on the entire razor, strop plates or handle. Just about as close to perfect as you can get. As the ensuing photos will show, only the typical small scratches that adorn anything chrome that is actually used are present. No dents, no dull spots. This thing is nice. It even has the spare blade still in the factory wax wrap in the little factory container. I have to apologise for the incredibly poor photos. No matter how I tried to do it, the shine of the chrome parts looks tarnished. Perish the thought. It is GORGEOUS bright chrome. Everything is there. Well, except the instructions.:blushing: Which brings me to another point. Somehow all this stuff should fit together in one compact that fits in the case. Could someone explain to me how to do it? It was not properly packed at the mall and thank goodness for that. No damage that way. Oh yeah, that $55 price. Pretty good huh? Well how about this? Without even asking the guy dropped the price to TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS!!!! It took me about two seconds to stammer out YES when he asked me it that was okay. I have been wanting one of these for a long time and here it is. It will look smashing in the display case don't you think? Enjoy.
Regards, Todd

The bottom drawer holds up to 9 tubs of Mama Bear's, plus a few samples, perfectly.

The middle drawer holds other creams, blades, etc.
http://i674.photobucket.com/albums/vv110/Jamie-O7/437.jpg
And, most importantly, the top drawer is perfect for my rapidly growing razor collection. (Which has already outgrown it. *shrugs* But, at least I can keep my regular rotation at hand.)

I'm amazed by the trend in antique stores recently. I'm not complaining, just amazed. Something similar happened to me the other day. The lady had a '60s model Super Speed marked at $20. It looked as if it were bought for a post electrolysis patient. Not a mark to be found on the chrome. I picked it up from the cabinet and the lady quickly ran over and asked what it was marked. I told her and she almost shouted, "I'll take 10."
I already had a 20 peeled off and in the holding area(shirt pocket) but I wasn't going to argue.
Nice pull, by the way.

Hi Dan.... there are a few websites that have details on the Rolls, and here's an excellent B&B thread from a long time Rolls user (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=78651&highlight=king+rolls)!
I've been mildly curious about the Rolls. I first saw one in the 60s when a college friend had one; it seemed pretty mysterious. Recently I was able to score this nice Viscount, a later model than the Imperial model of the 20s.
The vertical shaft in the middle of the picture is the handle of the razor. The blade and guard is at the top of the picture. The rest of it, the roller part, runs back and forth in a track, to strop and hone the blade when necessary. The blade detaches from that stropping/honing mechanism by lifting it up and turning it 90 degrees. You then lift it off, attach the handle, and shave away. The second image is what we today call a "Quick Start Guide"....:-)

Congratulations on an outstanding find.
That has to be the best looking ROLLS I've ever seen. Especially the hone, its the only one I know of that isn't cracked.
The strop side looks usable as is, just needs a little bit of dressing to condition it and bring it back to life. I've heard Lubriderm works well for that.

TWGW and I have been going to antique stores a lot lately. My AD's are largely the instigator behind this. Yesterday, we spent the day in Indianapolis doing battle with the antique shops. The following is a pic of the spoils of said battle.
This second pic is something my wife is particularly proud of. everything in this shot only cost $45.00.
The purse on the left is from the 1920's. The black pocket knife is from circa. 1940 and the tan one was bought by the vendor in Germany in 1954. Some of the straights were his father's.
The total cost of the first picture is around $94.00. I got the pipe rack with the intent to use it as a razor rack. I needed a new case for my cufflinks and tie pins. These are the first straights I have ever owned and need to find someone who will get them shave ready for me. I have also been collecting old bottles to decant for decorative purposes. There is a man's travel toiletry kit, also. I am quite excited about the Schick Bakelite. These seem to be very expensive, locally, so I haven't been able to get one to try. I will be selling a lot of this stuff but intend on cleaning it up first. At the time of these pics, I have done nothing to the plunder. All I have done is basked in the glory of my victory. :a24:
For the record, this is my first attempt to post photos, so please let me know if there is a problem.

I found these in the pitiful remains of the antiques section at a local crafts and collectibles store. It looks to be a:
Gillette Superspeed of (yet) unknown vintage that is in fantastic shape- $7.99
W.H. Morley & Sons Clover Straight (I'm not sure what kind but the blade says "Damascus") that just needs a little TLC to be ready to use again. The blade is a little dirty, but the edge is still Sweeney Todd sharp. There's some discoloration on one side of the plastic handle, but at $21.99 I'm not complaining
Then we have an old scuttle which looks like it has never even been used. $15.99
http://i711.photobucket.com/albums/ww113/juffowupscorner/P1000613.jpg
The only things I left were some old boar brushes that had truly seen better days, and what looked like a Schick Injector that was missing a main piece.

Just got back from a weekend in Granbury, TX with SWIMBO. I was hoping to find a project and here it is!
The scales are toast of course, but I believe there is a lot of life in the blade. None of the rust is as deep as it looks and the jimps are in great shape. They are like holding a file! The lettering does not have any rust touching them so I will be able to maintain them. The edge? I should not lose too much honing it, or having it honed out.
It was 15.00 bucks, not the best deal ever, but not to bad at all.

With having many interests/hobbies I've acquired a lot of stuff, so through this the wife has become very sensitive to the door bell ringing and boxes coming to the house. Of course this has led to the threats that if anything more comes to the house, I'll be sleeping in the garage.
So with my recent plunge into DE shaving my interest has peaked so after getting me Merkur 34G, I could not help myself and had to acquire some more shaving equipment.
Coming soon to a house near me (besides the butt kicking the wife will apply):
Merkur Vision (looked interesting)
Moss large scuttle (thanks, Bordeaaj)
Semogue 730 Silver Tip Badger brush
Geo Trumper Violet shaving cream
Pre De Provence Aftershave balm
Derby blades - 2 - 25 packs
Tabac shaving soap/bowl
Speik Shaving soap stick (to use with my C&E Travel badger brush)
Taylor of Old Bond Street - Sandlewood shaving stick
Truefitt & Hill 1805 aftershave balm
Truefitt & Hill Trafalgar aftershave balm
Another tube of Piraso shaving cream
All of this is suppose to arrive next week, so if you don't see me posting after next week, she got me.....

Groove, you need to accept responsibility for you own ADs. However, if you've been in contact with John from Shaving Essentials, then you can give him some responsibility. That man is evil I think he sends subliminal messages to the shaving community. Just when you think you are done buying, he decides to add something that you absolutely positively have to buy.

I see she's letting you borrow the pants to use the computer for a while
Too funny, if the wife saw that she would want me to get a tattoo of if it, just so she could always say she was right.

Do what I did. I had a DE razor that my Dad gave me 20 years ago. I showed my SWMBO this razor, and a $5 soap and $5 brush from Wal-Mart. So my $10 worth of kit is proudly displayed on the counter in the bathroom.
Now, does she really need to know that this stuff has been swapped for a Fendrihan's Silvertip, a Merkur 38C and some Mitchell's Wool Fat???
Or about the small collection of WWII Khaki kits that I now have??
Or the vintage Flare Tip??
Or the old Tech??
Or the sampler pack of blades ...
thankfully she does appreciate my new interest in my hygiene !!

Just scored this beauty (well... I hope it's a "beauty" after cleaning it up a bit) for $12, shipped, on a BIN from an ebay store. Sorry for the bad photo; I haven't received the razor yet so it's the ebay seller's photo. It looks like a 1930's open comb Aristocrat. It had only been viewed once since the view counter only showed '00001'. I'm hoping that it cleans up well.

This state is typically about 40 years behind the times, so I don't think the craze has hit here yet. I need to restock the ol' checking account and go hunting.
I cleaned up the DE, and from the handle and the lack of numbers on the underpiece I'm pretty sure that it is a '48 Superspeed. It's also in near mint condition! :w00t:
I got looking closer at the straight, and unfortunately the little spots that I thought were dirt are actually corrosion :frown: The blade also has a few tiny dings in it. The spotting is still pretty minor, so I think I'm gonna have somebody take a look restoring it.

Lol! Inspired!
I'm sorry to hear of your problem, but frankly, this happens to all of us sooner or later.
The wife catches on. :scared: She realizes this is no longer an attempt to save money, or an innocent hobby, and has become a debilitating addiction just short in severity of full-blown alcoholism. You have two choices:
1) Step back from the brink, admit you have a problem, and save your marriage (or at least your... ahem... man parts). :blushing:
and of course option number two...
2) Lie! :devil: :lol::lol:
Let's face it- it's probably time to start having these mystery boxes shipped to a friend's house or a place of work so she never sees them. She'll get so disgusted that you can cram anything onto your shaving shelf and she'll never even look at it, and never realize your creams are multiplying like rabbits. There's nothing like a healthy marriage!:lol:
Legal disclaimer- the reader of this post relieves the writer of ALL responsibility associated with misfortune that occurs from choosing option number two...

When she starts spending less on 3 items from Clinique for 3 months that you spent for over a few years' worth of stuff, then she can complain.
Until then, continue to manage SWMBA (She Who Must Be Assimilated).

You would understand a little better if you look at the stuff in my signature, which is about 40% of my music/camera gear. It doesn't cover the 12 golf bags and many sets of gold clubs, or the 78 fishing rods/30 full tackle boxes or the guns, or the knives....

wow that is a lot of stuff  what's a few more razors and some soaps and creams going to hurt? seriously though sounds like either you have been tempting fate for a while or have a large garage or an off site storage location :whistling:, plus those are some real expensive hobbies shaving supplies are cheap compared to some of them

What you do is show her the cost of disposable cartridge blades, then show her the cost of decent double edge blades. Next, explain how this entire hobby is just an attempt to save money while shaving. Repeat frequently and with conviction!:001_smile

I think she's ahead, my wife has a few of those Coach purses. DE's = $50 or so, Coach purse $300 - $750:eek: Now if she was willing to come home with a Coach purse full of DE's, well that would be a different story.

That's where I ordered everything except the Truefitt & Hill stuff from. John let me know yesterday the Semogue 730 brush is back ordered, so there will be second package coming. So now I have to coordinate trying to intercept the UPS/USPS man twice, which is no easy feet.

You should rent a PO box or a mailbox at your local UPS Store if you have one nearby. Then just go pick up stuff when you're going to the "market."

+1. Seriously.
Your wife needs to respect you enough to allow you to buy stuff for a hobby and you need to respect her enough not to go overboard.
To quotes come to mind...
One is from the world of amateur radio
"A new radio that doesn't enter the house via the basement window should be accompanied by a box of chocolates."
The second one is from a social worker friend
"Happy wife, happy life."
