Hi Guys,
My Ebay lot of razors came the other day and there were around 10 Gem and other Single Edge type razors in with the Gillettes. So, I think I've got to try out one or two of the SE razors.
Although I have plenty of DE blades, I don't have any SE type. I see quite a few on Ebay (UK and USA) but most seem to be industrial type blades for scrapers etc. Are these OK for shaving, or are there specific blades for shaving? I seem to recall something in Leisureguy's book about there being a difference?
If anyone has a good supply contact for SE type blades for Gems etc - UK or USA that will deliver to UK, it would be appreciated.

The industrial blades you will find in a hardware store will probably fit in your razor, but they are NOT for shaving ... they will tear your face to shreds.
Look for SE blades in the shaving section of your drugstore, supermarket or barber/beauty supply store. You might not find them on the first try, as they are even rarer in retail stores than DE blades.
As a last resort, you can mail-order them from a variety of e-vendors. Just make sure the blades you order are of the shaving type, not paint-scrapers.
Once you get the correct blades, though ... you'll find those GEMs will give you a Mighty Fine Shave with surprisingly little effort. I haven't used my Micromatic SE in about six months, but when I tried it out last summer, I was immediately impressed with it.

Electron Microscopy Sciences sells blades: http://www.emsdiasum.com/microscopy/products/preparation/blades.aspx#71950 and has agents worldwide: http://www.emsdiasum.com/microscopy/company/agents.aspx They claim to have no minimum order. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information.
I think I'll have to look online as it's difficult enough to get DE blades on the UK, let alone SE blades.
Best wishes

If you run into problems locating any - my local pharmacy has two brands... run to about £1.20 for 3 (one is a little less, the other a little more)
