I'm enjoying a bottle of Rare Breed 108.5 proof. Just curious how people prefer to drink cask strength bourbons.
In addition to the Poll, what glass is best for your preferred method?

I've only had Wild Turkey Rare Breed and Single Barrel, but both times I enjoyed them with Ice in a rocks glass. :P

Seriously, all of the above. It depends on my mood at the time.
I love Old Grand Dad 114 straight in a snifter. I love Rare Breed and Booker's on the rocks. But I will drink any of them either way at various times.

Yes, even George T Stagg at 70% abv should be drunk neat IMHO. I use a rocks glass or my Riedel Vinum port glass.

If it's bourbon, I take it neat.
My favorite cask strength is Bookers.
A sliver or 2 of ice works wonders for me.

+1 but i will often go neat as well, Depends on the cask strength, but the idea is to reduce the whisky a bit to release the flavors locked inside, unless you like the burn.

Some bourbons do better with a bit of water, some are better neat. It just depends on the bourbon. That goes for both cask strength and standard strength bourbons.
Some people concern themselves way too much with this stuff. Drink whiskey however it tastes best to you.:thumbup1:

Reidel makes a glass just for bourbon, at around six bucks it won't break the bank.

Depends on the mood, although the majority is neat. George T. Stagg is my favorite.

Sadly this is not a very good glass for neat cask strength bourbon, though it's pretty good for standard proof stuff with a splash of water or a cube of ice. Their port glass actually works better for neat cask-strength bourbons and scotches (mmm cask-strength Laphroaig) as it helps keep the alcohol burn off the tip of the tongue where sweetness registers.

That is dangerous stuff. A 65%+ ABV bourbon shouldn't be that smooth and drinkable straight.

Water, but just a bit.
As for a glass, I enjoy using the Nambe "tilt" old fashioned.

It's amazing, isn't it? Taken in small sips, you wouldn't think it is such a proof. Hazmat never tasted so good.

Noah's Mill, at 114 proof...simply amazing neat. I drink all my faves neat, actually (Noah's, Elijah Craig 12 YO, and the ubiquitous Maker's Mark and Knob Creek). I loves me some bourbon!

Really fantastic. One of my top three bourbons hands down.

It is though. I tell people to initially just wet their lips with it. To adjust to the high proof. I still take very, very small sips. But George T. Stagg is the finest bourbon being produced today.
