So I took a fast mid-week shave last night and decided to go as basic as I could. I loaded my Merkur 34c with an Israeli blade and lathered my face with Col. Conks bay rum soap and a Tweezerman badger brush.
I have a half dozen vintage Gillettes that I usually shave with and prefer Swedes, Derbys or Feathers. Normally, I use my Omega silvertip brush and Tabac or Proraso soap to lather. These days I have also been enjoying John Allan's slick water pre-shave as well.
So, with no bells or whistles, and as entry level a setup as you can get in 2 passes with a touchup here and there I got as close to BBS as I ever get. I was very impressed and am going to use this experience to "sell" the basic wet shave principle to any and all.
Now....how am I going to justify to my wife that '66 slim that is about to show up at the door?
