Title says it all. I'm looking into the possibility of adding a cream to my VDH glycerine soap to try and get better lather if I can't develop my skills well enough yet with just the soap. Would a dab of Speick along with the VDH be a nice combo?

I wouldn't recommend going to superlathers while you are still working on your technique. You may, however, want to try using JUST a cream for a little while, and get your technique worked out. Creams generally lather more easily than soaps, and can help you refine your technique.

Also what type of brush are you using? I find that I have trouble picking up enough soap if i use a boar brush. I don't know why, since many guys have a lot of success with boar on soap, but honestly it just hasn't worked well for me.

Try adding a dab or two of Kiss My Face creame. I have used KMF with my VDH soap and they work together well.

Well, I actually just got done my shave (college students have nice flexible schedules :D), and have pretty much decided to abandon the super lather. For whatever reason today's shave was awesome. I mean awesome. There wasn't a mountain of lather, but the lather that was there was well formed, and provided awesome results. I think I have my go to soap, and it was the first soap I tried :D

The one I use and has not let me down till now is Cyril R Salter Sandalwood. I would suggest you give it a try.

I've never used Speick, but if you have Proraso, Proraso + VDH Deluxe is AWESOME.

+1 on KMF. The unscented is great for this. Although, I have mixed the mint with Col. Conk Almond. What a great combination!

I don't superlather very often. I have an extremely floppy brush (CE super badger) and my lather needed help while I was learning how to make lather with it. When are the Shavemac D01s supposed to ship?

Hmm... I wonder how well it would work to use something scented like T&H lavender with VDH...

I'll have to wait a while on that one though.
