I'm looking for the most cost-effective way to purchase a strop, hone, brush, and shaving soap as I can, and I can get a Norton 4k/8k with a shaving brush, a wooden soap bowl, and this soap for like 120.
Just looking for any opinions if anyone has any?

I've got two pucks of Conk's Amber.
The glycerine makes up for unsurpassed thickness. I cant say how it shaves with a str8, but its great with a DE or to make superlather with!

the col. is cheap and effective. i've used the bay rum and it is very good. the ones with glycerine (amber and lime) are probably a bit better in terms of your face feeling dry afterwards. which was my only minor problem with it. i'm sure its fine for straights, double-edges or a cartridge.

I've used the Lime, Amber and Bay Rum and they are good soaps. They don't last very long but for the price, they are an outstanding bargain too.

I had the almond and it was almost scentless. I called the company and asked if it might be stale and they sent me a complimentary Bay Rum. It too was almost scentless. Is this the norm for Conk soaps?

I wish the Colonel's almond I got was scentless. That stuff reeks.

Col Conks soaps are good. Not great. But good. They perform OK but are weak on scent. Mama Bear soaps are better and are a better value.

I recently picked up a Col. Conk Lime as my first attempt at using a soap/mug combo. The smell was a little odd, but not overpowering. By using the techniques described on the board, I was able to produce an excellent lather, plenty for multiple passes. In fact, the lather was so effective, it encouraged me to add more "whipping time" to my cream lathering, which was also a success.
There's a puck of Mama Bear's rosemary mint soap en route, which I am looking forward to comparing with the Conk lime.

I've used Conk Almond and Amber. I haven't gotten to Bay Rum yet.
I LOVE the smell of this Almond! When I first tried it, it seemed very strong, but I got used to it and now, I long for that scent.
I have a hard time making lather with Conk soaps. However, I'm sure it's my technique, or lack thereof, and not the soap. I reread the Glycerin Soap Tutorial tonight and will spend more time loading the brush next time I use a Conk soap. I have a few other soaps ahead of it in the rotation that I've been waiting to try.

ive used the lime and almond and have been very impressed with both. i have to keep myself from trying to eat the almond though. it smells just like almond extract, and always makes me hungry when i shave with it.

Conks is pretty good stuff and the price is a steal. I've tried the almond and amber and quite enjoy them.
