I was thinking of putting some coffee beans in my mixture? Anyone ever tried that?

What are you trying to accomplish? If it's a coffee scent then I believe that you'll extract the wrong scents by soaking beans in alcohol. I may be wrong though, give it a try if you like, but my gut's telling me that the smell won't be as nice as you'd imagine.

I wonder if any of the caffeine would leech into the AS. Kinda like that caffeine bath soap they sell.
Might be worth a try.

Interesting idea.
Let us know how it goes!

i think it's a great idea!
how about a mix of:
alcohol
witch hazel
camphor
tobacco leaf
coffee bean (i strongly agree to not let the sit for too long, i would start by cutting a few beans in half and letting them soak for 4-8 hours)
Store it in a latte mug. With a cap, of course.

Haven't tried coffee, but I'd suggest grinding the bean if you do.
I recently made a homebrew AS which is 'chai' scented. Going off a bay rum recipe I found, I put 1-2 tsp of my regular 'chai' tea spice mix (ground up) into a small jar, filled the jar with rum, closed tightly and let it sit in a cool dark place. I checked it weekly. By week 2 it had a decent scent, but I wanted a stronger scent so I let it sit for a total of 4 weeks. I then strained it through a cloth and now use it. Leaves subtle scent that lasts for a few hours.

United Nuclear is ran by Bob Lazar, the guy who first exposed Area 51 and claims he worked for the government reverse engineering UFOs out there.
Nice guy, he's into fireworks which is also an interest of mine (I shoot public displays and in the past have held a manufacturing license and have had several technical articles on their construcion published).
He hosts a private "Desert Blast" that can't be described, it's just gotta be experienced! (yes, I've been there once or twice!)
Here's a link to a write up about it. Check the rules at the end, they really are the rules sent out with the invitations!

Interesting. When you brew coffee, it is imperative to take off the grounds as soon as it is done, or your coffee can get bitter fast. The same with tea.
I would not be surprised if they have a coffee essence that you could use.
Mama Bear (Sue?) and Joanna (Queen of Blades) would know. They are usually over on TSD though.

If I remember some of the anti-smoking campaigns (specifically the one about steeping a pack of cigarettes to make poison) from high school, wouldn't the nicotine content be fairly toxic in a mix like this? Not that you'd be drinking the aftershave, but I'd be a little concerned putting steeped tobacco on my face. Some brief Google searching hasn't provided any clear answers -- maybe one of the homebrew soap makers can answer this one?

Would it be better to mix some brewed coffee into your concoction? Just a thought.
Wonder if this would work - replace coffee in the place of water in a soap recipe.

Why not just put a little alcohol in your coffee and have fresh-brewed AS every morning?

I think the best bet would be to use a decent espresso machine to pull a shot of the coffee you want to use in the A/S (then pour the shot straight into your almost-complete concoction). It'll extract the aromatic parts of the coffee faster than any other method, while minimizing uptake of caffeine and other not-so-desirable stuff. Failing that, I'd steep ground beans in cold water-steeping in hot would drive off the volatile aromas and probably speed up staling of the mix.
Just my two cents' worth...

Clubman aftershave balm lists caffeine as one of the ingredients. It even singles out the benefits of it as tightening the skin.
