Jim, I am loving this little bugger! It has a comfy handle, whips up a mean lather on hard soaps, and is super with creams. I must say I am very happy with it, and given the low cost I am quite amazed.

This is essentially the same rig I used all of last week, except that I've switched out the US Personna blades for Euro Gillettes to check out the difference in shave quality. I was only able to get between 3-4 shaves per US Personna blade last week, meaning that I had to change mid week. The overall shave quality was decent. I wasn't able to get as close, but I had virtually zero irritation. I'm hoping that this week, I'll be able to get closer, and maintain the near-zero irritation level. The QED fresh lime lime shave soap isn't bad - I'm managing to get pretty good lather. I'm just not wild about the scent. It reminds me of green lifesavers.

Started with a warm, moderately dry Vulfix 2234. Loaded the breach up with Will G's unscented Emerald soap, two pumps of KMF Cool Mint, and a dribble of hot water. Lathered in a bowl. Way different lather than the soap or cream alone. Very thick, dense, slick stuff.

Went along rather quickly with my Merkur HD with a new Feather. Glided along effortlessly. 4 quick passes yielded BBS with no irritation on one tiny nick. Finished with Will G's unscenterd ASB. One of my best shaves in spite of hurrying through it.

Thanks Rick,

I only have one Fatboy and it is my favourite along with the Merkur Progress. However if I do end up with one I don't use you'll be the first to know.

I highly recommend you get a Fatboy, you really won't be disappointed. It's really well balanced and provides me with a BBS shave everytime. I only use Derby blades as well.

The lime is top notch I love the smell I just never used a soap before so my lather was subpar.

The endymion castille is the result of a long an arduous process of grading students intro to philosophy exams which resulted in a typo. I apologize and will fix it.

John, do you have a Boar Brush? I find it much easier to create lathers with soap using a Boar (although a nice lather can be made with silvertip as well).

2nd time trying the Schickinjector. I really like the feel and handling of the Golden 500.
The Nancy Boy is not one of my favorites but thought I'd give it another chance.
Had a bit of a hard time getting it to lather but started over and added more cream to my Burts Bees mug (the one without the face).
The Italian Floid is a joy to use.
Overall a solid shave (A-).

Have a great day.

Awesome shave today!!

My Trumper's shipment arrived today (UPS man came early, so I'm glad I waited to shave!!).

Merkur HD with Merkur Blade (day 2)
Col. Conk Pure Badger Brush
Coral Skin Food before each pass
Trumper Rose Cream
Coral Skin Food as moisturizer

Still deciding what EDT to wear today.

This was hands down one of the best shaves I've ever had. After the second pass I was practically BBS. Third pass was only a t/c. Usually it takes me an extra pass to get this close.

Also, using the Coral Skin Food allowed me (for the first time ever) to actually go AGAINST the grain on my neck, giving me a completely BBS shave with NO irritation!!

Jim , I love it. It seems to be one of the mildest face washes out there. Does not dry my face at all, and it seems to help me get better shaves. I was using Cetaphil for a while, but I like Purpose much more. I am also becoming a fan of using hair conditioner on the beard in the shower, letting it set in and soften the beard, then rinsing with hot water. Also glycerin before each pass. I have been getting some great shaves with this routine. I never thought shaving would be so much fun.:w00t:

Joe, do you like the scent of the Palmolive cream in the white and red tube? I think it's good, but somehow, maybe because I'm European, I like the green tube version a little more. It smells nicer to me, and has a richer lather.

Hey Jeff, the palmolive red tube doesn't smell exciting, and it isn't one of my favorite scents..... but its a nice & clean smell.

I will be trying the euro Palmolive soon though!!!

crackstar
10-28-2006, 09:53 AM
Joe, the Euro version is very pleasant in scent, lather, and also skincare. Not only that, it's sold in every, every country in Europe, and it's not so expensive. Oh, I'd never diss the American version, because whenever I go to Florida to visit my parents, I always buy some, but the Euro kind is definitely superior kind. The Palmolive soap sticks are great also.

Joe, I just had one of my best shaves in recent memory with the Speick stick.
I just wish that it came in a tub, or a cake, the stick can be a little awkward, and the handle is not very secure.

Very interesting Jim. HAve you done this with tallow-based shave soaps?

For me, rubbing the stick on the face helps to create a thick, luxurious lather. I don't use a bowl with these types of soaps.

Joe, with my sticks which have holders, like Erasmic, or Palmolive, etc, I just remove the stick from the holder, do my rubbling, and then put the stick back in the holder, and then I wet the brush and go to town with the lather. I'm surprised how Arko soap has no holder.

Thats how they keep the ARKO so cheap! no holder. but i have no problems with it, I just only tear off part of the wrapper at a time, and leave it in the wrapper (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showpost.php?p=97072&postcount=204) while I'm rubbing it on my face. Works great like that.
