I know there are at least a couple of you out there. quick question, does anyone know of any shops in the Twin Cities that sell safety razors, creams, brushes, etc.? I only just heard about a placed called heimies haberdashery (http://heimies.com/) in downtown st paul but it's a little outta the way for me. I believe they stock truefitt & hill products but I was wondering if there was other game in town besides these guys? bueller?

I'm also from the Minneapolis Area (Western Suburbs).

I haven't been to Heimie's Haberdashery yet, but plan to go there for a barber shave someday soon.

Winston's Barber Shop on Lake Street (West of Hennepin) carries E Shave.
They also have a shop downtown. I think its in the skyway level of Macy's.

Crabtree & Evelyn has a store at Southdale and I believe they have one at the MOA.

My favorite place for soaps, creams, and aftershaves is The Garden of Eden on Grand Avenue in St. Paul (Grand & Victoria). They don't have a wide selection, but I like everything they have (Col. Conk Soap, Kiehl's men's products, Kiss My Face, Pre de Provence, Lightfoot, Lucky Tiger, some Crabtree & Evelyn after shaves, some Caswell Massey Aftershaves, Royall Cologne. There's probably more, but I can't remember all. They only carry one brush and it is a Col. Conk bristle.

If you find any more places, please post them here.

Glad to find another Minnesotan!

thanks for the info. i've only been to the C&E at Southdale but found their selection incredibly small. don't know if i'll ever get around to checking out Winston's Barber shop but I might have to check Garden of Eden. how would you rate the Col. Conk brush? is it imitation or real badger hair?

I haven't tried the Col. Conk bristle brush, so I can't comment.

I have two bristle brushes, but I don't really use them since I moved to Badger. I have the Omega red handle that comes in a set with a tub of Omega soap and a no-name (Club K?) bristle brush that came as part of a "set" I purchased on the BST. Ever since I moved to Badger, I haven't gone back. I have read quite a few posts here in the forums from folks who prefer boar (bristle) to badger. You might try to search for them.

Regading the C&E at Southdale, I scored their last CE/EJ Best Badger Brush.
When I read on B&B that this brush was highly recommended, but discontinued, I called that store to see if they still had one. Got their last one and had to drive through heavy snow to get it. It was worth it.

Regarding Garden of Eden, this is from an earlier post of mine that more or less lists the shaving items they carry. Since then, they have added Lucky Tiger.

Colonel Conk Soap
Colonel Conk Styptic Pencil
Pre de Provence Shave Soap
Pre de Provence Shave Cream
Pre de Provence Aftershave Cream
Lightfoot Pine Shave Soap
Kiss My Face Shaving Cream
Alba Shaving Cream
Kiehl's Men's Products
Crabtree & Evelyn Sandalwood and Nomad
Garden of Eden Aloe Shave Gel
Garden of Eden Vitamin E After Shave Lotion

Here is another post listing the stores at MOA

http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showpost.php?p=406311&postcount=1

Crabtree and Evelyn
The Body Shop
Bath and Body Works
Sephora
Perfumania
L'Occitane
Aveda

If you go to Garden of Eden, pop into Bread & Chocolate in the same mall and try a Fabulous Fudge Bar or check out Cafe Latte in the building kitty corner. Best desserts in the Twin Cities! Their Tres Leche cake is killer!

Please post an update of what you find in your shopping sprees.

I was thinking of going with a Rooney badger brush from classicshaving.com. they've got a couple of nice ones in the $50-60 range that look good. I had briefly considerd dragging myself to heimies in downtown st paul and look at their truefitt & hill goods but I believe their site only lists the ones that cost $150. I can't justify spending that kinda money on a badger brush

thanks for the links. i'll defo check out some of those stores at the MOA. I don't have many opportunities to get down to Victoria's crossing but i'll check out the bread & chocolate joint someday. it's been years since i've been to cafe latte. I remember when they're used to be a parking lot across the street, now it's some building.

In addition to the above if you're around the Southdale Mall in Edina pop across the street to The Galleria. There is a L'Occitane there and I JUST found that there is also a store (called Ampersand, I believe, it's hard to find the name on the outside) completely stocked with AOS (brushes, creams, soaps, straights, strops, etc.) along with some Kiehl's. They seem to have a much better selection of AOS compared to Nordstrom's in MOA so I'm really excited. Also, check out Winston's Barber Shop on Lake St. in Uptown. They have a selection of e-Shave products (brushes, creams, and aftershaves).

I live in Downtown St. Paul. I can vouch for Heimie's for a shave. Mustache Jim did a phenomenal job on my wedding day. They do sell some products, but I'm relatively new at this so I am not a huge expert. They had a few brush/razor sets, and some Truefit and Hill for sale. The last time I was getting a haircut there, someone else asked for blades, but they were out.

What songs did Mustache Jim sing for you? I would recommend checking out the contents of the T&H tubs of cream before purchase. When I was in there they were getting a little dried out. Awesome barber shop, awesome haberdashery.

Belated congratulation on your wedding!

I need to make an appointment at Heimie's in the near future.

Does anyone know someone who had a shave from Tina?

No singing for me, unfortunately... I was a little too shy to ask. But, I did spring for shaves for my father and my father-in-law. Hopefully, I made converts out of them, too.

As for the creams, so far I'm satisfied with the Body Shop cream I've been using, so I'll leave good enough alone for now.

Wow, I just dropped in to check out the shaving supply's and he broke into product jingle with every new product he showed me. You know they do not call him Mustache Jim the singing barber for nothing.

Hey fellow twin cities dwellers,
Just found that TBS Mart on 78th Ave. S and Portland (I believe this is technically Bloomington) sells Godrej shave creams (the Rich Foam and Lime versions). It's only $2.50 a tube if you're interested in checking out this Indian Shave Cream that's gotten some good reviews. The one thing I do have to say is that it has a cologne-type scent that I wasn't fond of at first whiff (Rich Foam version). It does contain lanolin as well. Will have to see how it shaves tomorrow.
Cheers,
Ben

Which online shops are you referring to? I'd like to check them out. The prices at Ampersand seemed exactly the same as any other shop I have found selling AOS, apart from when Amazon had soaps 50% off.

You know what, I was looking at T&H stuff. I ended up ordering from Ashford.com

Maybe AOS is priced competetively.

I live in the southern suburbs and have a $50 gift card to Heimie's that I've been meaning to use for awhile. I don't have much inside info on local places to obtain good shaving gear, though, since I get most of my stuff online.

I do know that the Walgreens on Hwy 13 and Cliff Road carries the Pinaud line and a couple of brands of DE blades. :001_smile

carry KMF, Alba Botanica, Earth Science Azulene (a non-lathering cream that I think is great) and some others that are vegan, organic, fair trade, etc. They both also carry the much maligned Herban Cowboy soap. Seward also has a locally made shaving soap, but I haven't tried it.

However, I plan to make future purchases of KMF and Azulene from the place I buy vitamins from, Vitacost.com.

They are 2-3 dollars under the co-ops.

Thanks men for the tip on Garden of Eden. I can stop by there over lunch from work.

Hiya - also from Minneapolis here.

There's also a new barbershop called "Floyd's" that just opened up on Lake & Fremont. I haven't been there yet to check out what they carry... being smack-dab in the middle of uptown my guess is they are going for a 'trendy' setting rather than a classic barbershop feel.

For those out near Wayzata there is also Cherie Boutique Francaise. Was out that way yesterday and stopped by. It's mostly a perfumery, and they had some Penhaligon's, which is why I wanted to go there. The salesperson told me that they wouldn't be carrying it much longer b/c it doesn't sell and their selection is limited for that brand.

Here is their website http://www.cherieusa.com/ (not much to look at but it lists the brands they carry),

The only ones that have shaving products were L'Occitane, AOS, and Kiehl's as far as I could tell. Nice place to smell some colognes before plopping down big $$ on them, however.

I can't blame you... neighborhoods in St. Paul each have a 2 block radius. Pretty easy to stay compartmentalized. Although, it does share a building with Great Waters... which makes the Hamm building a pretty good destination for me.

Yes, a chiller on second floor leaked over a whole weekend. Much of the ceiling on the mez floor the first floor and basement level theater dressing rooms had to be replaced. Thus sprinkler heads had to be repositioned once the old ceiling was torn out and new installed.

I got sick of doing everything mail order, so I went on a shave expedition today.

I found a shop on Grand Ave at Victoria in Saint Paul (The Garden of Eden), they had the Col Conk line ($3.95/puck) and Omega cream ($10.95/tube 150ml) along with some misc brushes, balms and aftershave.

I found Patel's Indian grocery, Central Ave at 18 1/2 NE Minneapolis, they had Godrej cream (reg and lime) $3.95

There's probably many more places, but this will do it for me for awhile.

Another place I forgot to mention.

Belleson's Men's Clothing at 50th and France in Edina carries Trumper's.

They are having a big moving sale, which my be ending soon, if not already, and the remaining Trumper's has been heavily discounted.

I was last there a couple weeks ago and all they had left was some Rose cream, Lavendar cream, and Coral Skin Food. It may be gone buy now, but if not, the discounted prices are incredible.

They may carry Trumper's again in their new location, which is a few doors down. However, their full retail is a bit pricey.

I found Patel's Indian grocery, Central Ave at 18 1/2 NE Minneapolis, they had Godrej cream (reg and lime) $3.95

I stopped by Patel's today, and they actually had I think 4 varieties of Godrej, although their stock is getting close to the "Best if used by" dates. They also have Pear's Soap (not shaving soap) that I had heard about before somewhere, for about $1.50. I may stop back there for that.

On the other side of Central there is the Bombay Grocery, and they have 80 gram alum blocks for $1.99. I don't use one, but that is significantly less than I see quoted for buying this product online.

I would be interested in hearing what other stores catering to recent immigrants may carry. It would be nice to find an Indian store carrying the Gillette 7 o'clock blades.

Very cool! I was in a hurry and only saw the two and didn't have time to cross the street and check the other store. There is another Patels in Bloomington that's next on my list. The Godrej Lime is very nice btw.

On a previous trip I checked out "Curry Up" in Maple Grove, they had no shaving supplies. And I've also checked a few Asian stores with no luck.

It's great that you mentioned this. I have suggested that they look into Mama Bear and they will probably be doing so soon.

I also suggested that they find a shave cream that can be custom scented at the register as they currently do with their shampoos, conditioners, bath gels, and lotions.

I just got an email from the CEO of GOE and she said they're looking for distribution for Mama Bear. I also recommended they expand their shave creams/soaps to include TOBS, JM Frasers, Trumpers, Proraso, etc.

I hear ya. I told them I didn't like ordering items online I couldn't smell in person. there are a few exceptions like maybe Proraso or JM Frasers but for the creams and soaps where there's a lot of variety to choose from i'd rather smell them in person rather than take a chance on something I may not like. I still have my col conks pucks which i'm going through right now. i'm hoping by the time i'm done with the conks soaps GOE will have mama bear and TOBS creams added to their inventory.

I took a trip out to Patel's today and picked up 2 tubes of Godrej - Rich Foam and Lime Fresh. I hate menthol, so obviously I didn't get that, but they do carry it. I also picked up a tube each of Dettol and Old Spice Musk.

And they have Bird's Custard!!! :w00t: :a14: I haven't had that stuff in years! Gonna have to make some crumble to go with it.

well, I stopped by Patel's Grocery in Bloomington (off Portland Ave) and apparantly it's not the same Patel's that over on Central. the guy was saying to me that he asked the guy on Central not to use the name 'Patel' but he refused. anyway, I went in hoping to find a tube of Godrej to buy and they had nothing. In fact, their shaving section was fairly pathetic. they had one brand of shave cream called Axe and it was 2 yrs past expiration, as were a lot of things on their shelves. I bought some garlic naan bread since I was there, but that doesn't even have an expiration date. hopefully I don't become violently ill. so, don't bother with Patel's in Bloomington. it sucks

Cheers,
Ben

stopped here today to pick up a tube but they didn't have the lime scent. oh, and the rich foam was way past expiration date...it expired on 3/08. I still picked up a tube because I wanted to try it. I hope it doesn't give me a bad rash

You guys have covered it pretty well. Over the last 5 years or so I've scoured the Twin Cities for shaving stuff but there really isn't much.

Nordstrom in the Mall of America used to be my best shot, but I haven't been there for quite a while.

The Byerly’s by me in Maple Grove has (or had, I haven't checked for a while) KMF, Tom’s of Maine, Alba (I think that was the brand), and another natural-ingredient brushless cream.

I also picked up a tube of some kind of natural shaving cream at the wedge a couple years ago. I'll have to check on the name. It wasn't any good, though.

There's also some stuff at Fresh & Natural on Rockford Road, just west of 169. I haven't been there for a while, so I'd have see what there is. They had some natural aftershaves and I think some brushless cream, like Alba or something.

Trader Joes also has some brushless cream. They might have Alba, too, but I think someone said their cream is the same as Alba.

One day a year or so ago I went to all the different grocery stores on Central Avenue. There are lots of nationalities represented, and it was really interesting. I found some great stuff, but not much related to shaving. One place (I can't remember which, now, but it might have been The Holy Land, if not, it was right in that area) had Arko foam in a can. Then there was an Indian/Chinese grocery just south of 694 near the Target. They had some Godrej and aluminum blocks. Of course the place is gone now. It's still an Indian restaurant, but it doesn't look like there's a store anymore.

On a previous trip I checked out "Curry Up" in Maple Grove, they had no shaving supplies. And I've also checked a few Asian stores with no luck.

I go to Curry Up now & then. The owners are really nice and helpful, and they'll spend tons of time with you if you're interested, but they don't carry shaving stuff. They do have some great sandalwood talcum powders, though. I'd recommend checking that stuff out.

Someone else also gave me this address as some kind of beauty supply store in St. Paul.

William Marvy Company
1540 St. Clair Avenue St.Paul, MN 55105
Phone: 800-874-2651 • 651-698-0726

Oh, yeah, there's also Sally Beauty supply. They have some Lucky Tiger A/S, I think, and last time I was there they had the clubman shaving cream.

cool, thanks for the updates. just an FYI, you might wanna separate the Patel's in Minneapolis from the one in Bloomington (on Portland Ave). the guy at the Patel's on Portland said the other Patel's isn't under the same ownership -- it's a different guy using their name. also, the Portland Patel's doesn't carry Godrej, however, the TBS Mart on 78th Ave. S and Portland (across the street) does carry the rich foam Godrej.

Hello Fellow Minnesotans - I am glad to know that every one is aware of Garden of Eden. It is a nice little shop with a decent selection.

As far as brushes - it seems that both of the Crabtree & Evelyn stores have a great selection of brushes - even Silvertip brushes at the one in MOA at least - but maybe they have sold out.

I am going to have to check out Patel's - and give Godrej Menthol a try.

The Rainbow on Hiawatha and Lake (Near that Target) carries "Roundy's" razor blades and also William's mug soap. They also carry Schick injector blades.

I thought that Hiemi's actually carried blades, but not anything special - just Merkur and some no-name - probably the USA made Personnas in the dispenser pack.

I have to admit I was very dissappointed to see this comment in this thread:

However, I plan to make future purchases of KMF and Azulene from the place I buy vitamins from, Vitacost.com.

They are 2-3 dollars under the co-ops.

It costs more to have a store, and even more to have stock and let people sample/smell product. It just seems unfair that some of us go into a brick and mortar store, smell and sample all these products and then aren't willing to pay the extra cost that makes that possible. So instead of keeping our money here, and encouraging shops to stock shaving supplies we are actually the worst customers who use their samples and then buy our products some where else. I would love a local store, but more people have to be willing to pay an extra couple bucks for the convenience and opportunity to smell/sample.

we do live in the internet age and supply/demand is what it's all about for most folks unfortunately. I would gladly pay extra for something if I knew I could get it in town, however, if a store has incredibly limited stock of something there isn't much incentive for me to go back is there? i'd also like to add that the men's grooming supplies market is a niche market of which there are fewer of us around to support such an endeavor. It's the same with any product imo. Minneapolis is weird like that. we're a decent sized metropolitan city, yet we lack a lot of the businesses I would typically order from online. I think we have poor record stores, clothing stores (indie boutiques), shaving stores, etc....you get the idea. if somebody opened a men's grooming supplies store that sold safety razors, DE blades, brushes, creams, soaps, etc. (similar to WCS, classicshaving.com or shavingessentials.net), I would probably spend all of my hard earned cash on that business in no time.

Other than that, do you have any other recommendations for inexpensive shaving creams in the area?

I went to William Marvy the other day and bought some of their shaving soap which I have yet to try. However, I bought a few hair products there.

Other than that, I was at GOE on Grand Ave and the owner is very nice. They have quite a few shaving soaps but not so many shaving creams... Well, either Patel's is out of Godrej, or I went to the wrong place. The suburbs confuse me so much. Are there street numbers for Little India? Patel's in Bloomington at 78th & Portland does not carry Godrej.
TBS Mart across 78th to the west does carry it, though.

Patel's in Bloomington is not related to Patel's (now called Little India) in Minneapolis. It has been mentioned that Little India does carry Godrej, but I have myself cannot confirm that.

I can confirm TBS does have it, and Patel's does not.

Hopefully now that Little India changed it's name, it will cause less confusion for all of us, myself including, because I first went to Patel's in Bloomington where they had no idea what Godrej was.

Patel's - Bloomington - no Godrej
TBS - Bloomington - carries Godrej
Little India - Minneapolis - carries Godrej

+1. when I went to Patel's in Bloomington and asked for Godrej the guy just gave me a blank stare and proceeded to show me to the shaving aisle. there was a box or two of incredibly outdated shaving cream (Axe brand I think) that was 2 yrs past expiration. he then told me their store isn't related to the one on Central (now Little India).

Other than that, do you have any other recommendations for inexpensive shaving creams in the area?

le.gentleman, you can find C.O. Bigelow at any Bath & Body Works at any mall in town, well at least you should be able to. I was at B&BW Southdale and they didn't have it for some reason. it's pretty easy to spot -- it comes in a green box/tube, not to be confused with the shaving gel. you could also try The Bodyshop at any mall. they carry a decent shaving cream called Maca Root. the tube will set you back about $10 and a tub is about $16 I think. hope that helps

I was not able to get pictures of the places I had been to display on the shaving map, and I thought I would add some shots. Here are pictures of Little India on Central as well as Marvy's in St. Paul. Marvy's was an interesting stop. I believe it is the Mecca of old school aftershaves, carrying the complete, it appeared, line of Clubman and about 3 other lines, ranging in size from 6 oz. bottles to gallon jugs (1 gallon of Bay Rum - $42.00) They have Feather 3 piece razors, including 2 blades, for $2.65, Gillette Platinum 3 piece razors for $5.17, and double edge blades, Derby (.80 for a 5 pack), Dorco 300 ($1.00 for a 10 pack) and Dorco 301 ($1.15 for a 10 pack).

I picked up a puck of their signature shaving soap, pictures attached, for $1.25. I tried it today-it has a mild almond scent and although I didn't quite get the water/soap ratio right on my first time, I plan to stay with it to give it a good trial as it sems to have potential.

They also carry Stephan's shaving cream for around $4.50 for a one pound(!) jar. Alas it is brushless only and so I passed on it.

went back to the TBS Mart in Bloomington yesterday and picked up 2 more tubes of Godrej. they're running pretty low on stock and the ones that are left on the shelf have slightly damaged packaging. I checked to make sure the tubes inside were intact and mine turned out ok. so, if you decide to pick up some more Godrej make sure yours isn't ruptured.

Just made a trip to the Galleria in Edina and it was pretty darn shavetastic.

Twill has Truefitt & Hill shaving cream and aftershave samples that they are giving out for free. That is the only shaving line they carry. But I got samples for Lavender, 1805 and Trafalgar, they had Lime there too, but I don't like warm limes.

Ampersand has everything that the Art of Shaving carries - everything. Cream, Pre-Shave Oil, Aftershave, Brushes (Pure, Fine, Silvertip), Straight Razors, Strops, and stropping paste. Crazy. I got a little sampler pack from AOS with Pre-Shave Oil, Shave Cream and Aftershave - all in the unscented. Just wish that AOS would make a good DE and sell some blades.

So go get your T&H samples while they last - he had a bunch.

it's nice to see some locals on here! After reading this whole thread, I was kind of dissapointed to see that there really isnt a good local place here in the cities to find stuff. Would anybody local around here want to do a shaving cream trade? I have some Taylors Rose cream that I used once, and it's not really to my liking. I took one small dab out of it for one shave, so it's practically brand new. I would love to trade for something different if anybody might be interested. Otherwise I would be happy to sell it to one of you guys for a little less than mailorder.

Really, I think we are doing pretty good in the twin cities - with Marvy for blades, Garden of Eden for soaps and creams, plus all the different boutiques for Trumpers, Truefitt & Hill, eShave, and Art of Shaving.

Godrej is finally back in stock at TBS. Plus, they now have ALL THREE kinds! Deluxe (red), Menthol (blue) and Lime (green).

If you want some, you better act fast as there weren't many tubes on the shelf. Last time I was in there was in mid-January, and the guy remembered me from stopping in and asking about the supply. At that time, he said some guys just got back from India so the cream would again be back in stock.

Believe me, though, if they rely on trips to India for supplies, and knowing how long the shelf was empty, you best be getting there ASAP to get your hands on some.

just thought i'd let those of you in Mpls know I stopped at Arc Value Village (off of Penn Ave in Richfield) today @ 2:30 and saw they had a Gillette Old Type for sale. as soon as you walk in the door it's immediately to your left in the glass cabinet where the video games are - it's on the top shelf along with some butterscotch handle shave brush. I didn't see a price tag or if it had any discernable cracks in the handle but it looked like a good cleaning would make it like new.

You'd think working downtown Minneapolis every day literally 2 blocks away I'd have wandered over to the IDS to look at Hubert White... oops. :)

Greetings from a fellow MN wet shaver, most of my supplies are leftover from the short Proraso stint at Target that ended in 07 and a "shaving on the cheap sample tour" trip to Walgreens for Williams/VDH soap and some Pinaud AS so I'd just gone the online route. I've had good luck buying my hardware and shaving products; eBay for vintage razors, ShaveABuck, RoyalShave and West Coast Shaving for everything else and my desire to range out into the higher end boutique shaving spots is somewhat limited by the cost and convenience factor. Now that I know it exists I will hit Hubert White and the barber shop in Macy's that keeps changing names to scout things out on a lunch hour, thanks for the lead gents!

I've got far more vintage razors than sense at the moment so if anyone is looking to arrange a swap meet or excuse to drink a beer or 2 I'd be interested in joining in the festivities.

Cheerio -- J

Hmm, will have to poke my nose in this week and see if anything exciting is going on, sounds like a smart move on their part to take advantage of the Thursday afternoon farmers market traffic.

EDIT -

Took a walk over a few moments ago, missed the 70% sale which is supposedly a bi-annual event, guess I should set my calendar for a 6 month reminder. Not a huge selection of shave product, just the AS, balm and creams priced at MSRP.

I did pop my nose in the Walgreens on 8th and Nicollet and saw my first set of new Gem blades & Walgreens DS blades along with the usual Pinaud, Old Spice and Brut AS, some VDH pucks + brushes.

I did a tour of skyway accessible shops that might carry shave stuff over lunch today... one hit out of 3 tries.

Williams (the barber/salon shop in Macy's downtown) sells the whole eShave line and provides some limited free samples.

Marshalls, one skyway jump over in City Center had absolutely nothing shaving related... but that's generally hit or miss.

Roco Autobelli (sp?) had nothing shave related that I could find, eye candy wasn't bad though... :w00t:

Greetings fellow Minnesotans!

I'm a new wetshaver and was glad to find this thread. A couple ideas for places in the metro that may be good resources (but I have yet to check out all of them in person:

-I know Marty Mathis in the Northstar Center carries Jack Black, and looks like a nice little haberdashery as well. Have not visited in person yet. http://www.martymathisclothiers.com/shop/

-Brooks Brothers in City Center does carry Royall products I believe, but not sure if they have anything else.

-I've been wanting to get to Martin Patrick 3 for quite some time now, but the only time I was in the area I had no spare change to feed the meter. At any rate, according to their website they have Concord Shave Sets, Dr Hunters, Lucky Tiger, and Caswell-Massey. http://martinpatrick3.com/

-Has anyone tried Downtown Stillwater for vintage razor hunting? There has to be at least 20 antique shops on main street and even if you come up dry, there lots of Bars and restuarants to check out!

-Apparently there is a Von Maur in Eden Prairie that carries AOS and Jack Black http://www.vonmaur.com/Default.aspx?PageId=264&nt=4&cat=77,264

-Has anyone been to the Foursome in Wayzata? Seems like a quality mens shop, not sure if they carry anythhing for Grooming though.

-Sephora now has locations at MOA and Rosedale I believe.

-Top shelf in Uptown is a tailor I believe, but sometimes these places like Heimies have Grooming as well http://www.topshelfinc.com/

-Looks like there is a Barber with Good reviews Downtown that does shaves - http://maps.google.com/maps/place?hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=Baker+Barbers&fb=1&gl=us&hq=Baker+Barbers&hnear=Minneapolis,+MN&cid=4046734757395646678&dtab=2&ei=bp7MS8ScE4XaMZTilJ4F&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CBIQqgUwAw

Update: Knocked 2 of the Places off the List Today:

Marty Mathis Clothiers - Dropped by to have a shirt altered. Marty is a great guy - really knows his stuff! Small, but well stocked little shop on the skyway. I had to use use his changing room to try the shirt on and low and behold - sitting on a little coffee table in there was a shave mug and Vulfix "Super Silvertip Badger" Brush. I spoke with him briefly and he indicated that they do carry some silvertip brushes - he wasn't sure of the price and I wasn't really ready to buy one, so I sort of left it there. At any rate, I did see a small assortment of them near his Jack Black display!

Martin Patrick 3 - This is an awesome little men's shop over in the north loop. Lots of briefcases, ties, bowties, cufflinks, bracelets, watches, and home decor. "Essentials for mankind". Not a ton of shaving items, they Did have DR Harris Shaving Cream and lots of Lucky Tiger. They also have Caswell-massey triple milled soaps (I picked up the newport, my favorite scent). They had brush and razor sets as well, but they weren't branded so I wasn't sure exactly what the hair was or mfgr. Around 40 for the horn handled brushes they had. Also, they had an assortment of colognes. Definitely worth the stop!

Hoping to get to Garden of Eden after work today. I have a haircut scheduled at Heimies on Tuesday evening, so I'm hoping they have a tub of T&H Cream for me to try (or samples). I know they carry colognes and after shaves, not sure how much other stuff they have though.

Also, Has anyone checked out Sally Beauty Supply? I think they have many locations in the metro. Looks like they carry Clubman. I'm also going to stop there today to pick up some Talc if they have it.

I was there yesterday and picked up a bottle of the Master's Bay Rum Aftershave - I recall seeing the Clubman aftershave and hair gel but can't recall if they carried the talc (this was the Coon Rapids location at Riverdale).

Also found the Jack Black products are carried at Ulta 3 in the cities, 16 for the tube of cream / 22 for the tub.

As far as the the Royall splashes go, Brooks Brothers and Hubert White downtown have them at full retail, however I have purchased mine via this eBay seller : http://shop.ebay.com/bermuda150/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4340 (bermuda150) - he seems to have the best price going on both the 4-pack sampler ($9.99 + 6.50 shipped) and the 4 x 8 oz bottles for $70 or so shipped.

Just got done with my little run tonight! Sally Beauty Supply in the Sun Ray shopping mall (East St Paul) had the Clubman talc - so I picked it up for $3.99. They also had the aftershave, styptic, and moustache wax if you fancy any of that.

The Garden of Eden was as advertised earlier int his thread. Picked up the Col. Conks, a Wooden Soap Bowl, but the biggest score was that the have Caswell-Massey fragrances! Got me a bottle of newport (which I had been waiting on coming back instok at caswellmassey.com for some time. As indicated though, they do not by any means have a large selection of stuff.

They had all of the clubman that Sally's Beauty Supply stocks (After Shave, 'Stache Wax, Styptic, and Talc), Williams Mug Soap, and lots of your lower end aftershaves.

I think I also saw their private label DE blades.

I picked up a puck of the williams and I'm not thrilled with the scent but it was $1.50 and I figured what the heck.

Just got done at Heimies. I've been getting my haircut there for the past year or so, but recently "Mr. B" the barber I went to countless times moved to a new shop. I have yet to figure out where he went, so if anyone out there knows where he is, please let me know!

Anyway, I don't think Cheryl, the other barber, was having a very good day, I was her last appointment of the day and I'm all for no conversation during a haircut, but she was sort of rude. Also, a guy came in looking for T&H Sandalwood after shave balm, and she was pretty clueless as to its availability or pricing. Anyway, I think Anthony (one of the orders) swooped in to save the day.

Left with a good haircut and a tube of T&H Trafalgar. I really liked the scent of the cologne they had out so I decided to give it a whirl.

I also scored two samples of T&H cologne - those were the only samples available/offered.

Heimies Carriers T&H Almond, Rose, Lavendar, Grafton, 1805, Sandalwood, Trafalgar, and West Indian Limes. They had 2 T&H razor/brush sets and one brush. I also saw a jar of unlabeled pucks (maybe Marvy?)

They also had Proraso tubs (green and white both), Omega cream, Col K, Crebtree Nomad product, caswell products etc. All in all not bad. I did pick up PDP cream and ASB. Price is very competitive as well. There was also one omega shaving brush.

All in all a reasonable collection, their bath soap collection is very good(if you are into it). If you around Grand Avenue, definitely worth checking this out.

Hello fellow Minnesotans,

I am relatively new to B&B and wetshaving, and as my interest in shaving increases I wonder where I can get the stuff other B&Bers post about.

You can get samples from Mama Bear of any soap she has for $1 each off her website. They last me 4 shaves before I have to switch to another. Then you can find out what you like/dislike and get the full tub.

I was in Martin Patrick 3 today. They have a nice corner with shaving supplies--brushes, EJ razors and soaps, and a few other products. If you're downtown, it's worth driving over and taking a look. Plus, you can go across the street and get a drink at the Monte Carlo. Although, come to think of it, they have booze in the store, too.

Here's the link: http://www.martinpatrick3.com/

Hey there fellow Minnesotans! I added Nate's Barber Shop to the map. It is a small shop over in New Hope, that carries a small selection of wet shaving stuff. Im not really sure what brand or anything, and Im sure its not really high end, but last time I was there he had a few brushes, a mug or 2, and a couple of different soaps, and lotions.

Im pretty sure he hasnt shaved anyone in quite a while, but if he has the time, he may be willing. Of course you'll have to negotiate a price, but it may be worth a shot.

Good to know Im not alone on here.

I found this guy and he is local to Burnsville:
http://www.thestropshop.com/

I am dropping my razor off tomorrow for honeing, I will post reviews asap.

Edit:
Just picked up my straight and the guy seems decent. He works out of his home and I this he was born well before cartrige razors were invented! LoL, but seriously he seems like a dang decent fellow. He gave me the run down of how he sharpened my blade. Started with a 4000 then bumped it to a 8000. After that he stroped it with a very mild abrasive and the he said he buffed out most of the abrasive with his hand and continued stroping. I have not yet shaved with it yet but I will let you all know how it goes! Cheers

Center Drug in downtown Hopkins has Williams Shave Soap (only place I can find it), Schick Injector Blades, and GEM Single Edge Blades.

Every now and then, I see vintage razors in the antique stores in Hopkins. Unfortunately, they are usually over priced.

Sally's Beauty Supply in St. Louis Park, over by Knollwood Mall, carries the American made Personna DE blades, Personna Injector blades, Master Bay Rum AS, and Jaris Hair Tonic.

I'm from a bit up north. I went to the antique shops once in Crosby. I bought a schick krona there a couple months ago. I saw quite a few DE and straights. I'm pretty new so I couldn't identify them. At that time there was probably about 8 DEs and a dozen or so straights. There is 8 or so shops.

Belleson's no longer carries any shaving stuff. I called them about Geo F. Trumper's.

Twill by Scott Dayton in the Galleria carries Truefitt & Hill (T&H) West Indian Limes, 1805, Trafalgar, Grafton, and Unscented in both the tubes and tubs. He also carries the aftershave balms. The tubs are $38.

The CVS on Nicollett & Franklin carries Florida Water Cologne.

The Wedge Co-op has Aubrey Organics Northwoods shaving cream and afteshave, Kiss My Face, and a few others that I can't think of. Oh, they have those cool Herban Cowboy mugs.

Euro-AM Bed & Bath carries Casswell-Massey and T&H soaps. I found a post here from 2007 stating that they carried Trumper's. I think they open around 10AM.

Thanks!

Once I saw Proraso, I was inclined to stop by, and to my amazement, they had the entire line at great prices:

Proraso tube - $10
Proraso tub (green/white)
Proraso Pre-Post (green/white) - $13
Proraso Foam
Proraso Liquid AS
C.O. Bigelow tube

Derby blades (100 pk)

Edwin Jagger DE 86 - $45
Edwin Jagger DE 89 (or 89L not sure) - $48

And there's no use stopping by tonight if you're looking for a Proraso tube. Wait a few days, as the stock is empty

In case no one has mentioned it yet, there is an AoS store in the Mall of America (1st floor by Nordstrom) that carries the full line of AoS products as well as straights, strops, shaving brushes, and Merkur DE's. You can also pick up AoS at any Macy's. I have also heard (but haven't checked out) that Nieman Marcus carries Acqua di Parma, and there is one of those downtown in Gaviidae Commons. Does anyone know if Nordstrom still carries Truefitt and Hill?

I'm surprised I find no mention of it in the forums, but right down the hall from the Garden of Eden in St. Paul in the Victoria Crossing building there is a new barbershop called GENT. In addition to hair and beard cuts, they offer straight razor shaves. They also sell the full line of Merkur Razors, as well as some very nice dopp kits, straight razors, brushes, and razor stands. I've only window-shopped there so far when visiting the Garden, as it's not exactly the cheap stuff they're selling, but if I ever wanted to buy a Vision and a Silvertip brush in person, I know where to go!

I was shocked the other day, I browsed the shaving aisle at the Rainbow Foods in W. St. Paul, and there on the shelf were genuine Chinese Schick injector blades.

I stopped by TBS on Portland Avenue in Bloomington today. No Godrej or shaving supplies of any sort. I went across the street to find Patel's has closed. Then I went into the Family Dollar next door and bought a 10 pack of the store brand blades for $1. They turned out to be Korean made Dorco's.

Have any of you stopped at any of the Russian markets in the metro to see if they might have any shave related products available? I think there's one is Burnsville and one in Eagan. If I get a chance I'll check it out.

Has anyone seen pucks of VDH Luxury soap for sale lately? They formerly had them at Target (when I didn't want one), but now I only see them available there in a $20 kit that includes a mug and brush I don't want. Amazon sells 3 pucks for $15 plus shipping, but I don't want 3.
I saw in Walgreens today that they had the VDH glycerin soap, the first time I have seen any version other than the normal deluxe.

FYI - Gent opened a new grooming center in downtown Minneapolis today. It's skyway level, US Bank Building off Nicollet Mall. Just walked past and it looks like they have a small assortment of products, brushes, and razors (Jack Black and T&H for sure). It looks liked today (4/22) is their grand opening - 50% off services and 20% off products if you can get down there before 6:30.
