I just got my HD in the mail today. Presidents day delayed it a whole day, ugh!!
Up until now, for DE shaving, I've used s Superspeed then graduated to a Red Tip. I love my Red Tip but thought in this journey I should try Merkur as they make really popular razors.
So I'm jazzed about dipping badger into Mr. Taylor's, and putting the HD through it's paces. Just to see. It was a late birthday gift so I'm not out anything.
Since there isn't a single person I know in person who would give a big rip hearing this I thought I'd get it out with you guys.

Congrats on the new HD. I love mine and I'm sure it will find a place in your rotation.

You are going to love the HD- it's one fantastic razor. What blade are you going to christen it with?

Can't go wrong with a HD.

I've had mine about a week. Shaved with it twice. With a Feather. I really like it, get great shaves, but I keep getting nicks in the same area of my face I think maybe my technique isn't up to the aggessiveness of the HD with Feathers. I plan to switch to Derbys after maybe one more try.

Derby's - yep, that's a good plan. If you are doing one more shave with the feather, do the "no pressure/weight" and shave very slowly, with short strokes... let us know how it goes!

And congrats to the new HD owner! You're in good company.

I got a new HD not long ago myself. You are in for a treat. The HD give a fine smooth shave. Enjoy.

I recently got into wetshaving with a Merkur HD. It's a great razor - granted I don't have a lot of experience, it's a good newbie blade for sure and I hear more experienced people talk good things about it.

When I started wet-shaving a year and a half ago I started with an HD, it's still the only razor I use. Well, with the exception of travel because I don't want anything to happen to it.

My HD arrived on Tuesday, but I had to wait a day to use it because I had one more shave with my 1954 SS (Z-1).

I finally used it today for the first time with a Personna Red, Conk Almond, and CE/EJ BBB. Finished with Pre de Provence after shave balm.

The shave was wonderful. Did a very slow "Four Pass Shave". Skipped the oil for touchup and just did some blade buffing where I needed it.

No irritation! No nicks, cuts, or blood!

My new technique for making sure I shave slowly is to pretend I work at my local post office (I hope I didn't offend anyone here).

I do have a question regarding the HD. When I put the blade in and put it together, the threads don't seem to catch unless I press down a bit on the head. Is this typical for HD's or is this a flaw? I don't have this problem with my 38C BP.

This razor will definitely become part of the rotation. It will have to compete with:

Merkur 38C BP
Merkur 42 1904 Classic
Gillette SS 1954 SS (Z-1)
Gillette 1971 SS (R-1)

I also have a WWII Military Tech. Since it is NIB, I will merely admire it for a while before I decide whether to use it or keep it NIB.

I have the following on the way:

Red Tip
Canadian Gold Fat Handle Tech
British Tech
German Parat

I have more razors than I need, but not as many razors as I want!

I have to press gently down on top of the head to get it to catch. So your not alone.

Me too.
I also press a bit down to get it.

Anyway, Merkur HD is my first razor and my favorite, it's very nice.

Make sure the middle piece is facing the right way. I figured out that I made that mistake almost instantly when I saw that the blade was not exposed at all!

I like my HD, but I find 38C to be better shaver because of its longer and heavier handle, although they have identical heads...
