So I thought wetshaving would be a great idea. Recreational, interesting, fun, soothing etc etc...So I passed by TAOS 3 weeks ago. And I casually purchased this cute, little innocent kit, and a nice DE safety razor from Lee's.

3 weeks later I opened my medicine cabinet and mysteriously find

Sure, it may look like a lot now, I find those bathroom shelves with the mirrored surfaces on the inside are deceptive. They make it look like you have more shave stuff than you actually do. :tongue_sm

I picked up a L1 date code SS at a local flea market. It cleaned up very well. There is a small blemish on one of the safety bars, but I think some metal polish will clean it right up.

I tried shaving with it and was a bit disappointed. My New with Feathers is a much better shave IMHO. I'll give it a few more runs just to be fair, but it might wind up being used to barter for other goodies.

I was wondering what was in the jars ???

I melt my shaving soapes into those jars. To be specific, Sandlewood soap from classic shaving, an of the shelf from cvs soap. One of the jars has alcohol in it for easy access quick dry/cleaning. The fourth Jar is what I keep my blades in right now, deciding on a soap for it. I am leaning towards something mentholated.

OK, so a little bit of background. I started wetshaving 3 years ago with an AoS pure badger brush along with AoS lavender shave cream and balm. I really didn't know what I was doing and face lathered up until a couple of months ago.

Through it all, I held onto my Fusion Power. My shaves were better with the real cream but nowhere near what I would get at my occasional straight razor shaves at Belmont Barbers and later T&H.

This December, I switched over to T&H Trafalger cream and balm which I love and am also working my way through numerous T&H and GFT samples.

On Super Bowl Sunday, I (who loves college football and loathes the nfl) decided to avoid the Super Bowl by going to T&H for a haircut and shave and followed my usual routine of pre-shave martini at the Four Season bar, go down a floor to T&H followed by a a return upstairs for a post shave Scotch.

In between, however, I made the decision to upgrade my brush to a T&H medium silvertip and when looking through their extensive brush selection also took note of the line of Merkur razors and received some great advice from the sales person. Back upstairs at the Four Seasons bar, the Super Bowl had started on the television, and one of the first ads was a Gillette ad trying to convince us to throw our $4 cartridges away quicker in order to get a smoother shave. To paraphrase Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction, "I was sitting there, drinking my scotch, and I had what alcoholics call 'a moment of clarity.'"

Next step, stumbling onto Badger and Blade and receiving all of the imparted wisdom within. I've started bowl lathering (use a great two handled soup bowl that I found at the Crate & Barrel outlet) and made the decision to get some real razors. Well, I became locked into a serious buying binge (I can always resell) and picked up the following vintage Gillettes. I also plan on picking up a Merkur 23 at T&H in the next couple of weeks.

The trip to Hancock wasn't wasted, even though I didn't find *any* safety razors. The shop boasts 46,000 square feet, but I think the shop in Bruceton Mills, WV does more with their 6,000 sq. feet.

First we have some NOS Platinum-Plus packs and a Plus Platinum from the flea market side. That whole lot for just $7. Next we have a pack of German Wilkinsons I found in a pharmacy near the antique mall. Got that pack for just 99 cents. Last is a handful of 7 o'clocks courtesy of a mod on another forum. Thanks a bunch.

the brush is a Kent AP4 and the razor is set up for a Mach 3 (4?) cartridge.

I'm very happy have the brush - I actually thought I was bidding on the brush alone - but I'm wondering if it would be possible to get the icky cartridge setup out of the razor handle & set it up for a NEW head...

I promised myself I wouldn't buy anything this week, but I did. I'm blaming this on you guys. I'm forced to admit that I'm quite powerless over my RAD. Says "Copper Head" on one side and "A. White Germany Full Concaved" on the other. Any tips on age or manufacturer are welcome. Paid $18. Plenty sharp, took hair nicely off the backs of 2 knuckles, but I'm not going to try to shave with it until it's properly sharp. Can't wait, though! Anybody want to give a new Str8 shaver a nice deal on a usable strop??

I could post a picture of the broken pieces  after I knocked it off the shef. And I call SWMBO the clutz! Check the kitchen section if you want one. They have a variety of bowls.

Got this for a steal. The razor is not mint, but the exterior is quite good. The interior compartment has some brassing. Any ideal of how these TV Super Speeds shave. They seem to be the same weight as a Blue Tip Flared SS. Kinda on the light side.:001_smile

A month and a half ago, I was still using the Fusion and Fusion gel. Today, I have 5 vintage Gillettes, 5 different soaps, one cream, and hundreds of blades from no fewer than 10 different types/brands.

Perusing the aisles at the local antique mall, I stumbled upon a lady selling razors. After twenty minutes of sorting through injectors and G-bars, I came up with a Military Tech and a Fatboy, both in great shape but dirty, for $12.
I almost danced a jig in front of the stall.
If anybody in the Charlotte area likes Schick injectors, let me know and I'll PM the secret location to this treasure chest.

Found an unused Gillette GII razor and blades in an old travel kit my father had. You could tell the vintage as it was "Made in West Germany". Even the Gillette case says "Made in W. Germany" on the back. This is a razor that looks very similar to the Gillette Injector, but it uses those old stationary mount cartridges which have two blades, no moisture strip, and slide on from the side. I actually plan to try shaving with this bad boy.

Very similar to this razor set:

Also found his old Sensor and two 5 packs of blades. One has 4 Sensor blades and 1 "new" Sensor Excel blade with "New Microfins"! I have never shaved with a Sensor (or Sensor Excel), so it will also be tried at some point. My old cartridge days started with the Mach3 and random disposible 3-blade Schick razors.

Just got a package from Shaving Shack (http://www.shaving-shack.com/):

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e259/Jakobeep/Vintage/Kent_BK4_01.jpg

The first BK4 i got showed signs of being rather roughly handeled, not by Dan, but by the people at Kent Brushes; the logo on the brush looked pretty bad - and though it doesn't affect the functionality of the brush, I just wasn't happy about it. I wrote an e-mail to Dan about the problem. He answered, within half an houer or so, that a new brush would be sent to me free of charge! That is the brush which has arrived today.
Many thanks and great respect to Dan for excellent customer service!

Nice brush Jakob

Thanks. I am looking forward to breaking it in.

Next brush will be a Shogun (http://www.shaving-shack.com/shop/catalog/Shogun-Luxury-Onyx-Super-Badger-Shaving-Brush-p-2821.html) - and after that a Rooney with the chubby handle is next. A few Omegas, both boar and badger, are also on the list.

I guess this is what they call SBAD

Then I got a NEW Milady with the Natural color case. The razor is in poor condition, but I have a spare, I just really needed the case.

Enjoy, and use it in good health! When Paul's wife PM'd me to inquire about a mystery box, I was only too happy and honored to help out a solider. Thanks to you, and to all veterans and active duty members, for your sacrifices.

I tried to give ya a little bit of everything, sort of a diverse taste of the majority of what's available out there. Have fun!

(And agreed that your wife deserves some special care for this one -- congrats to you both!)

The Cranberry Crush cream is one of the best-smelling scents I've ever tried! Shaves like a dream too!

I began 3 weeks ago because of an article I read in Esquire Magazine about shaving and it suggested using a shave brush. I bought the same Art of Shaving set as you and I really enjoyed the luxurious feeling of using a brush, even though its a PoS from AoS, to apply soap or cream.
