Has anyone ever seen one of these? I got this blue blade dispenser today and can't remember ever seeing one. Does anyone know what year they came out and with what razor if any. This one has 20 blades but it has a much lower profile than the 20 blade blue dispenser with gold letters. As Tom pointed out in the post below this one does not have any place for the used blades, that is why there is a different in size.

If memory serves, they started with the dispenser around 1948, the same time they started with the notched Super Speed. The first dispensers were off-white/ivory colored. By a year or two later they were using the blue dispenser. I have two of them, one circa 1952 and another from 1956. The '56 still has useable blades in it, but I'm not gonna. :)

I thought they came out around the time the cream color dispenser show up but wasn't sure. This one has 20 blades but it has a much lower profile than the 20 blade blue dispenser with gold letters, I not sure why that is. Thanks for the answer DarkAudit.

You're quite welcome. Mine are a 6 blade and a 10 blade. Both have the gold lettering. I haven't seen one of those all blue ones before. It still resembles the ones I have.

So you don't have one that is totally blue, you have the one that is blue and gold.

Exactly. When I made the original post, the picture you had wasn't showing up. Sorry if there was any misunderstanding. Achim or Guido should be along in short order to clarify.

I don't think I've seen one like that before. I have seen 2 different sized 20 packs where one pack is more slim than the other.

I hadn't seen the all blue ones in my recollection, but fifty-five years or so has done some rather adverse things to my recollection. :blushing:
Does the slimmer dispenser seem to have the same capacity for used blades as the thicker one or does it, perhaps, not have that compartment at all?

Tom

Very good Tom, this one does not have any place for the used blades. That is why there is a different in size but I still want to know when they came out. It does have Made In USA on the front if that help anyone.

Looking at Achim's site, the cream colored dispenser does not have an old blade slot in the back, so it puts the date on that pack some time between 1948 and 1952 (the date on the oldest dispenser I have).
Are there any blades left in it?

It looks to be full of blades.

Check the date code on the blades

If you are willing to check a blade, the date code will give you your answer. That's your call, though.

The date code on the blade is U 2. That would be 1949 is that correct?

The date code is U 2
That's 2nd quarter 1949.

The question is still the same, has anyone ever seen one of these?

I think I have seen one in blue... can't remember for sure, but I have seen one in red. I think it is a transition dispenser between the early cream colored ones, and the later blue (with painted writings) ones.

Hi Sebastian
It must be pretty rare if you don't remember seeing one.

I finally found the entry I was searching for on these blade pacs . . . A patent was filed for the "Speed-Pac" magazine and blade combination on 30-Jun-1947 and 8-Jul-1948. The patent was issued on 5-Jan-1954. These magazines did not have the used blade compartment. They were, as someone had noted above, made in both blue and red.

Tom
