Hi gents,
I just got my stuff today and will try out my first DE shave tomorrow.
I have some questions about using the soap in a mug. Does the soap "live" in the mug (assuming I am not using said mug for creams any time soon)? Also, if it does live in the mug, how do you clean it out when you are done? Just rinse the whole thing down? Can you do that with the soap in the mug?
And while we're on the topic of cleaning - after I rinse the razor off, do I need to dry it or do anything else with that?
Thanks!

Welcome aboard adauria. Yes, you can let your soap live in the mug. Just drain the water out. As far as your razor, give it a good shake to get the excess water out and you should be good to go.

Generally, if you melt or stuff a soap into a mug, it stays there until you've used it all. Some shaving soaps are available in a branded mug--Tabac, Mitchells Wool Fat[MWF], and a few others.
After you shave, just rinse the mug out with cold water, swish it around, then tip it over to let the excess water drip out, then sit it down and let it dry.
As far as cleaning the razor, I clean mine about once a month. If you really wanna clean it hard, you can use Scrubbing Bubbles cleaner. Normally I just use hot water and a tooth brush.

+1 to the soap in a mug comment. I've had my TGQ Desert Ironwood sampler in my mug for two weeks...no issues and still smells great!
Best bet is to swish around some water, get out the gunk and let it air dry in your shave den area.

Thanks guys,
This works great.
A word of advice for others - 20 seconds on high is a probably way too long to microwave a small puck of Col. Conk's soap! Mine was pure liquid for 10 minutes :) It harded up fine though.

There is no need to microwave the soap. It will glue itself into the mug/bowl after one or two uses. Generally when you buy a soap it can be bought two ways: in a container or as a refill. If you buy it in a container you are all set from day one. Some people (me included) buy refills even w/o having the original container and put the puck in any convenient container that is about the same diameter, or a little larger, than the puck. Save a bundle this way.
I use a separate bowl for lathering, either soaps or creams. Sometimes I do face lathering and skip the lather-bowl completely.
