I am love those sub dials..I can't wait to add one to my collection....Something to work for....:frown:

Still one of the ten most beautiful watches I have ever seen

I love the face on that Exactus. I am a fan of the "petite seconde" hand style, and that is a particularly nicely textured dial, to boot.

Enjoy it!

:a5:

Thanks Guys, I am always looking for unusual watches. I bought this one on Ebay for $19.99. No one would bid for it because it had an unfamiliar badge. When I received the watch I could not believe how beautiful and prestine it was and that it was 18k gold filled. The only problem was that it ran fast. I took it to a repair man and paid $50.00 to have it serviced. It now looks and works perfectly. I can't believe how lucky I was.

As we say in Kentucky, "Even a blind hog finds a acorn ever now and then."

I just picked this up from the watchmaker, got a new crystal and a cleaning/servicing. It was my Grandfathers...he passed away ~8 months ago and my Mom brought me the watch after she and her brothers went through his things. I love it...I generally don't like smaller watches (its ~30mm) but I think this one is very classy, and I plan to wear it:001_smile

Yes it is Arabic. Its a phonetic spelling of "Enicar." I believe my grandfather bought it in either Jerusalem or Cairo, prior to 1956 (the year he came to the US).

Ray, the Accutron was one of the first electric watches that ran on battery. Unlike modern quartz watches, the electric watches combined mechanical with electric. If I'm not mistaken this one has a tuning fork. Very cool stuff. This watch is on my list to acquire. :thumbup1:

Thank you sir. I hope you get a nice watch at your big day

My biggest watch is a 36 mm. Not very big, but I am not much into the modern "oversized" watches. For me 40 mm would probably be the limit for a dress watch and 42 mm for a tool-watch. I find that watches over 44 mm. tend to look too big on most people.

Regards.

Jakob

Thank you, Sir. I've been hinting at a few, since my best friend would probably be the one to get it, and he has a few watches himself now, including an older Omega. Thanks for the size info, too! Very helpful. I don't want something bigger than my wrist, but I don't want something tiny either. I know most folks don't care for Movado but I'm adamant that whatever I wear has a clean and simple design. No offense to the diver/submariner/chrono guys. I just can't hack wearing a busy watch. So the Museum Watch style or that Stowa are perfect for me.

I can see your point, I prefer a clean, simple, elegant design for business. As far as casual, I like a diver or submariner but I'm not a fan of Chronos (too much going on).

I can see your point, I prefer a clean, simple, elegant design for business. As far as casual, I like a diver or submariner but I'm not a fan of Chronos (too much going on).

+1 I am the same way. That is one of the reasons I like vintage watches so well. They are smaller and more refined than some of the 42mm dress watches of today. But for casual wear, I like a sportier watch.

Had to post a chrono.

This is my Tourneau Sportgraph. Most of my watches are from the "simple, yet elegant" category, and I thought, for a chrono, this one fit the bill. I wanted to have at least one watch with an ETA 7750 movement before they stopped being available, and I bought this one as a "Certified Pre-owned" for a song. They even replaced the original Croco band with an Alligator (a significant upgrade, IMO) at no cost.

Oh -- I noticed in the picture that the date was wrong, so it's already been changed. Thanks. :biggrin1:

You can't go wrong with a Rolex like that Explorer. Really nice!

This is one of my favorite watches to wear, an old Daniel Mink Automatic. It has an ETA 2824-2 movement (what can I say, I like ETA movements:blushing:), but what I really like about this watch is the shape of the case and the detail work on the face.

It was exceptionally difficult to photograph this watch because of the flat crystal, but I think I finally got a picture which at least allows you to see some of the details (and all of the fine scratches!!):tongue_sm.

I love all the automatics you guys are posting up. I used to own an Omega Seamaster Pro, the iconic James Bond watch. Sold that one to a friend here in town. Now I have an Omega Speedy, but it is one of the Schumaker racing ones, not one of the moon ones that most of you are posting up. Sadly, I just had to send it off for service. I bought that one used on one of the watch forums and it had not ever been cleaned and oiled. I should have it back in a few weeks. It cost me about half as much as a regular service on a Rolex.
But being a broke college student, 225 is a lot to drop on a watch.
I picked up the Citizen AT0660-56E. Titanium band and case, Chrono, Eco-Drive, and screw down crown, 200m rating.
I tried it on at a store, and it is so lightweight it's scary.

Wow!! This is the watch I was about to post, not having seen the previous post. Eerie. I wish mine had the small seconds like Austin's, but I won't complain. This one is a 1955 gold Omega Automatic, with a "bumper" movement and a silver face. As you can see from the inscription on the back, it was a gift from my mother to my father for their engagement. When my father heard I was interested in automatic watches (I had never seen him wear anything but a quartz), he dug this out of the bottom of a drawer, had it cleaned up and gave it to me. I don't wear it often, but I always enjoy it when I do.

Amazing watch! Take good care of it, the bumper movements can be pretty fiddely to repair if broken - and they are unfortunally quite prone to do that.

It's actually my son's watch. I purchased it for him some time ago and planned on giving it him when he is home. I may keep it because I have a vintage Seiko diver coming soon that I think he will like better. I will let him choose.

Yes. They have acquired several brands including Michele. I think they were interested in acquiring swiss brands. They are a huge company but does not compare to Swatch which owns most of the swiss brands.

Yeah, I had no idea how deep Swatch had their claws into everyone.

Makes those cheapie plastic jobs seem like a good deal, especially since they have the same movement as just about everything else.

Makes me tempted to buy a junker vintage, and toss in a Swatch movement.

Have you read Hour Game by David Baldacci? A Zodiac watch figures prominently in the first chapter or two.

Funny, I didn't picture it quite as nice as yours!

The story was probably referencing a vintage Zodiac. They were usually smaller but a great watches. The modern Zodiacs are large watches compared to their ancestors.

Without giving anything away for those who might want to read it, it had to do with the watch brand's connection to the eponymous serial killer.

Hmn, You mean mechanical, as in an automatic, or crown wind?

The ETA movement is made by Swatch, which is what is in a lot of higher end watches, and what I was referring to.

Yeah, but they don't put it in Swatches. I meant mechanical, as in automatic or manual wind, yeah. As opposed to quartz.

ETA is owned by the Swatch Group, as are many of the major Swiss brands, but that doesn't mean that Swatch makes the movements, which are supplied to many fine watchmakers.

By the way, love the Daniel JeanRichard!!

Ok so here's what I have on this afternoon. My newest piece. I found it at a estate sale last week for less than two Big Mac's. Took it down to the local watch guy and he cleaned it up. I brought it home today.

It's a vintage (early 40's) Pierce Chronographe, 28 Jewels, Suisse Made. Some wear and a few scratches on the crystal but it runs well and holds good time.
My watch guy offered me 300.00 for it when I brought it in so I think it's a keeper.

nuovorecord and thirdeye: You are most welcome. You can also use the scale to measure the distance of thunderstorms. When you see the flash of lightning you start the chronograph, when you hear the rumble you stop it, now you are able to read the distance in km's, it's the same with atillery.

I figure, if it is worth wearing, it is worth wearing. I can't go through the day babying a watch because it might get scratched.
