Great thread and some great watches, fellas!

I've gone for my ultimate time telling device

Solar powered and radio sync'd, it's always right and I love that. Waterproof. Shockproof. It may not be pretty but I like it a lot. Wear it 24x7. I have a couple others but this is the only watch I wear.

Great pictures. This watch (GA100-1a1) has been seriously tempting me for the past couple of weeks. The only thing preventing me from ordering it is that it sounds massive, and I have a small wrist.

This is my first post in the watch thread. This thread helped to start my new addiction to watches.
then I discovered watchuseek.com and the WWAD came into full swing. I've bought over 20 watches in the past few months but now I'm in the process of getting rid of everything except the top 8.

Today I wore the same as yesterday, a recent acquisition from another member at WUS.

Sinn 656. A fantastic watch.
I really love German watches and have the Sinn plus two Damaskos on the way.

sorry for the bad photo.

That it is. 40 mm wide, 10 mm thick, so it sits low enough to fit nicely under a dress shirt.

This particular variation isn't offered anymore, but you can find them on the 'bay. There's a close cousin with roman numerals instead of the gold hour markers that is still being made, if memory serves. There's also variations with different bands, face colors, and the like. It's the Citizen calibre 8700 movement, and they put out more than a few watches centered around it.

Here is mine. I believe mine has the Elgin 760 movement in it. For watch geeks, it's known as the only made in USA automatic movement and was known for being very innovative in terms of balance design (Durabalance) and for it's winding mechanism.

The watch belonged to my uncle, and he had his name engraved on the dial (sort of unusual, but kind of cool personally, since it's my last name too).

For any other watch geeks, here's a good discussion of these watches (http://forums.watchuseek.com/f11/made-america-264439.html).

Austin, do you know if yours has the 730A movement? (Discussed here (http://trusted-forwarder.org/elgin/history/fm.html))

There were several. Here's (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showpost.php?p=2594141&postcount=4251) mine, but I think this (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showpost.php?p=2746990&postcount=4474) is the definitive one.

Also, if you go to page 20 of the B&B LE Watch thread (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=139068&page=20), there are a number of wrist shots that were posted shortly after the watches started arriving, on through to the current end of the thread.

Hope that helps. It's a great watch with a really solid, classic Swiss movement and an old school look and feel to it. I love mine, and get compliments on it every time I wear it. I can't recommend it strongly enough.

The Seiko uses a 20mm bracelet. The B&B watch uses a 22mm strap.

Well, that sinks that idea, then. I may check out Watchadoo and see how much a bracelet would cost in the 22mm size, but I'm happy with the ostrich strap. Unless it's fairly inexpensive (and as comfortable and solid as it feels, I doubt it would be), I'm not planning on dropping any substantial money on an extra bracelet.

Wearing this Edifice for a change, but what I really wanted to bug you is the ring: what do you reckon, is it a tad camp?`I got it a year ago from a friend to celebrate my new motor, but I still can't make myself wear it. I am not much of a ring person for a start, and secondly, it looks a bit too large and flamboyant for my tastes. But gift's a gift, might at least wear it occasionally? Will I become less self-conscious about it after a time?

I'm not much of a ring person myself, but at first stating the obvious, that occasion, place and your attire should have most of the bearing on whether or not to wear, I'd say, if appropriate, wear it and see if you get interest, compliments, questions, etc.; a bit of a fashion experiment. Definitely a conversation starter.

Very sporty Edifice, btw!

Midsize Ingenieur - I'm leaving for a week in France and I like this as a travel watch. Tough, light, easy to reset, understated and looks respectable in a variety of settings - pretty much has it all.

'a tad camp' is like saying Amy Winehouse looks a little worse for wear. :001_rolle

Everyone has 'that gift' ... from some dear friend or relative, but it's a hideous monstrosity of tasteless fugly that is hidden away in the attic for 363 days per year and taken out and stuck on the mantlepiece the one day when the gifter comes to visit.

No photo ... :blushing: ... but today it's my new-ish Seiko diver ... the JDM 8f36 quartz ... that is rated to +/-20 seconds per year accuracy, and the 'perpetual calendar' so it knows what day it is for the rest of the century, and adjusts the date window accordingly.

It's nice to be able to get a nice, small diver ... and if you can throw in an uber-reliable quartz movement into the bargain ... :thumbup1:

(But yes, I can appreciate a nice mechanical watch too. :001_rolle)

Very Good Andrew. I have seen one or two of them around but never thought much about the badge. It is evident to me that if you owned it, it must be a quality watch. Thanks, I will keep my eyes open for a Baylor for my collection.

Triumph Coupe and carman63, I hope you gents won't mind me hijacking your pictures? But I wanted to mention these for demonstration purposes. These are the two watches that have recently greatly occupied my mind. I keep returning back to look at the Breitling, and have spent some time oogling at the Panerai too. I guess what I am trying to say is that these two watches (or similar models) are becoming my grail watches, ie. something I want to buy some day, hopefully sooner than later. Maybe not both but one or the other.

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_x6qAHCNNzGE/SbQFRl4gm0I/AAAAAAAACFQ/2I9Y2qpulQQ/s720/DSC_0016.JPG

I am not sure which one I would choose atm, and I realise that the Breitling of the picture is a vintage model, so the new ones won't be exactly like that and lack the lovely patina, but otherwise similar models anyways. In general, I find the Breitlings to be a little on the flashy side for my tastes, but this Navitimer looks so great for some reason. Likewise, I think that the 'modern' Panerai models are a little too 'busy' looking, so I prefer their classic models with cleaner and simpler look. The Luminor Marina has such a great design it dont' really need any of that chrono stuff, imho. They only muddle up elegance of the design, I think.

This thread is full on such lovely watches, but these fascinate me for their little different design and style. Rolexes and Omegas are all lovely watches, but to me they seem a little conventionl or even conservative somehow. Any thoughts?

The Luminor Base (historic) you pictured is a fantastic PAM and that look is one of the most favored Panerai "looks"... Non-cluttered, sandwich dial, etc. I believe that watch though isn't an automatic and may be a manual wind, so keep that in mind. However, it has a transparent case back so thats kind of cool. If I had to get another, this would be it. The ease of swapping out straps on these things is really cool.

The vintage Breitling you showed is pretty sweet and I love the look of the classic Navitimers. However, a new model will look a lot cleaner and I actually prefer it on steel. No reason you can't get more than one band though.

Some of the Breitling models are getting to be too 'Military' looking in my mind with some of the newer models sporting that 'stencil lettering'. That and the 42mm sizes are on the small end of their line up.

Thank you Berkin. I worked very hard to acquire this watch. I especially liked the idea that it was a Turkish Railroad watch. Considering the Turkish Railroad's rich history and mystique, I am very pleased. This watch is of a very high quality and works flawlessly.

Thank you for pointing out the misspelling. I never noticed it.

Depends what kind of look you're going for. I think a ballistic nylon band would give it a cool military look. Maratac makes great bands in both Nato or U.S. Milspec. Very inexpensive. You can try www.countycomm.com.

For a more formal look, you can go with either leather or metal.

An awesome watch, indeed. Just bear in mind that it's only 007's watch because Rolex wouldn't agree to co-marketing. Apparently the company believed that James Bond could wear a submariner, but not appear in any Rolex ads. And no, there would not be a "James Bond" Submariner.

That's alright. I don't really admire Rolex as a brand. They made some bad (or not up to their usual) watches in the 90s and otherwise the brand has taken a hit in recent years (at least in Europe). They are still a quality watch, but the brand is not what is used to be up till the early 90s. A vintage Rolex would be a nice purchase, but I want something solely mine if I am to buy a watch that expensive or even as expensive as the Seamaster. Rolex kinda screwed the pooch when it comes to Bond.

Great watches guys, it's a real pleasure to window shop in this thread.

I can't speak to the quality of modern Rolexes. They were a huge status symbol in the 80's which could have led to production issues that matured in the 90's. Personally, I prefer Breitlings, but unless I see a moderately priced vintage, or someone trades me for my datejust, I won't be owning one in the near or mid future.

I do agree Rolex screwed themselves on the Bond deal. Of course, in the novel, 007 wore an Oyster Perpetual, which he broke in Casino Royal whilst using it as an improvised knuckle duster.

However, their subsidiary Tudor did do a "Tiger" chronograph in honor of Tiger Woods. All things being equal, I'd have gone with 007.

I didn't know that about Tudor. So Tiger has a Tudor and Tag watch line? Somebody screwed up on that one.

IWCs are great watches. Again, just a bit outside my current price range.

I just bought my 1st good watch, ever. I had had a couple of fossils for a few years but never really wore them much. about 6 months ago, for some reason I got the bug to buy a really good watch. I finally pulled the trigger on this:
It is a LUMINOX 3150 STEEL COLORMARK SERIES. I tried the other Luminox watches they had, the ones made of carbon fiber or whatever but the steel won out. I really like the weight of it, pretty substantial and you really know it is there. Also, I guess the salesman, who happened to be the GM of the store, gave me a DEEP discount and threw in a replacement band for free so I pulled the trigger. Shouldnt have but you only live once!
