Hey guys, I'm finally getting my first straight razor. I've read all about the Dovo Tortoise razor and I think I found it on SRD. Theres two but I think this is the one.

Is this the one everyone talks about? If so, does it come in any other colors, I don't know if I like the tortoise..unless it looks better in person. This seems like a good price, is it worth it?

Also where's a good place to get a Tony Miller strop? They don't have them at SRD :(

Thank you all so much, lurking here has helped me make my decision, you've helped and you don't even know it!

That Dovo will serve you well though you could get a Wapi from Kep Rup here (http://ruprazor.com/store/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=35&category_id=6&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=32) for half that price that might be a better bet until you're sure straight shaving is for you. The price savings would buy you a great strop from the same store.

The best part of all this is you can't go wrong either way (aside from the start of RAD).

Good luck!

For the strop, you can check out Mr. Miller's site at http://www.thewellshavedgentleman.com/

It looks like his stock is in. I would note that I, and I don't think I'm alone, started with a less expensive strop. Now I have a red Latigo that is amazing. And you can get a practice strop for the learning curve! No, I don't work for Tony Miller... :blushing:

Either way, the choice is yours.

You can get a practice one from Tony Miller with all of his artisan strops, I believe.

The only difference with Tony's strops is what bells and whistles you want and how much you want to pay. The leather is all of the same quality. If you don't want to drop 60-90 bucks on one of the artisans the starter would be a good starter/practice strop.

I like the 2 1/2" wide strops. I originally wanted a 3" one but they were sold out and I was too impatient to wait. I don't think I'd buy one now after using the 2 1/2".

I just ordered the base entry level strop from him. The practice strop is an option during checkout.

I got a Dovo Tortoise and it's a fantastic little shaver. Looks great, takes a great edge and shaves well.

Personally I also think it looks very good.
