View Full Version : What is your best razor score ever?

Just curious what was the best deal you ever had on a razor. Lets skip all the common razors like SS, Slims, Fatboys and such.

Best score was a chrome Toggle in Excellent condish for $75. Supposedly this is rarer than the 195 bottom dial fatboys.
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e301/scottydoint/Gillette%20Collection/Picture075.jpg

Second best was a Never used #66 Aristocrat for about $80.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e301/scottydoint/Gillette%20Collection/Picture031.jpg

Third best is a Never used Early Executive $87 that I am waiting to arrive in the mail.

I'm not sure I'd agree, certainly rare but I've seen more of them than the 195 Prototype. I purchased my Silver Toggle before my Gold one.

However, we are talking about our best score ever so I'd have to say my 58' D3 Fatboy for $3.00 and my 195 for less than I can feed my kids at McDonalds. Then it would have to be my mint NOS Exposition Model New for $25.00
Shoot, I could keep going but I guess I'd have to call these my best, sort of.

Sorry for the rough pictures, this was back when I did not know how to use the camera. I really should take some new ones.....:blushing:

EDIT: Yes I have payed a lot more for many of my razors as well...

I wonder what 10 bucks would have got me in 1905?

Second would be the "very good" New Standard in a nearly perfect case with blade vault. No pics yet, but it's the best $3 I've ever spent.

I'd say my best so far would be a pair of Gold Toggles (one very minty one near mint) both for <$80 total. I'm also very fond of my minty D3 and D4 Fatboys (sorry Tim, I know you said no FatBoys, but I love those razors) oh and please not I paid considerably more for them than that lucky Ray fella!.

I just snagged a #66 for 17 bucks but couldn't see the condition beyond the handle (which looked good so figured what the hell). I'll find out in a couple of weeks probably.

I'm sorta nervous that someone will try to piss in the seller's ear if I post the actual link. Irrational, but there you go.

This is the picture I had to work with.

My best would have to be a when I traded a set of straight razors for a mint toggle in case, and a mint 1908 single ring with shipper... and i got the straights for free ("old junk")

Not like you would disclose confidential information but....where the hell
are all these found ? I just want a nice silver Tuckaway....or a New Standard (silver of course) with a nice clean case.

To top it off I have the $$ to spend (within reason)

Nice, nice razors.......

P.M. me if anyone is selling quality cased razors, like the above mentioned without taking a second out on my house.

Nothing fantastic here, but basically everything I've got is in my signature.

Techs are easy to find, couple of bucks.

The Canadian Old-Style was worth AUD$10 in pretty good nick, shined up quite well indeed and shaves like no tomorrow. Get some comments on it from mates, who think it looks like something Stalin used to torture foreign spies, haha.

The Slim was worth all of AUD$5 with 3 each of Blue and 7 O'Clock blades, plus a Valet Autostrop blade. All in original packaging.

Now I just gotta find an Autostrop to go with the blade I have - this thing is a few mil thick and feels like its made out of the front-half of your average small car...

A Gillette 195 Adjustable (yes, the one with the bottom adjuster) under a sink in a box of trash at an estate sale. It was the second day of the sale so it was 25% off which put it at under $2. :blushing:

I posted about it before, but my best score has got to be a LARGE near-wedge B. Daffin straight razor.

It was paired up with a Durham Duplex on an eBay auction... I got the pair for $10, so you could say I got an almost unused badass blade for $5.

And honestly, it performs as well (if not better) than my mucho expensive Le Grelot 1/4 grind.

Mint unused Milord with case $7
Mint unused Gillette Goodwill with case $6
Very Good Condition (without case) Fat Boy, Blue Tip, Red Tip, Long Handle Adjustable, 1947 Superspeed - all for $ 2 each at one antique store.

Best scores on eBay: Two very similar scores almost a year ago

Gillette Big Fellow (NEW IMPROVED version) $17 (no case): A dull looking Gillette New (thick handle) was listed along with a blackened Big Fellow and a shaving mug, shown in a poor dark picture at a $17 starting bid. I was the only bidder. The heavy Big Fellow shined up nicely with some silver polish and was flawless.

Gillette 1904 double ring (no case) $27: Another seller had listed Gillette old type as a primary razor with couple of beat up side razors of which one was a double ring and the other one was a 1912 Gem. The picture was out of focus with the double ring barely visible. The bid started at $6.99. No one noticed the double ring except only one other bidder whose $26 bid I could easily beat. The double ring turned out to be flawless.

I would say that these scores should be considered in person, not on eBay because that's just a matter of sniping or staying up in the middle of the night to bid....

Most of my collection comes from antique stores, so I would have to say that one of my best "scores" would have to be the rare Gillette Fisherman's Kit in a display cabinet behind some other things for $4.
