That is awesome. I want to see a picture too, with the bow tie you were telling me about the other day. :) Is that bin your stock? Have you emailed the seller to see if you can buy them rather than bidding on each one?
PS that Mannequin is creepy.

do you wear them with collarless shirts?
special vintage dress shirts?
where do you find them?
or do you wear them over the collar of dress shirts...?
what is this all about, Dave?

New week, new thread, new toys...
First up is the '57 Red Tip courtesy of Blue_monkey. Blades are of '52 vintage per the one in the back.
Second is a puck of C&E Sandalwood. Decided to grab some while I still could. Now I need a bowl for it.

nah, i have a collar box. ive got about 40 collars: 5 celluloid, 25 linene, 6 linen, and a couple soft cotton.
everytime i email the seller about buying all the ones in my size(s), i never hear back. i dont get it :001_rolle

yes i do. they still make them. they are worn with (2) collar studs.
i also know how to modify modern dress shirts to fit these collars.
i find them online mostly. its taken me YEARS to track down where i can get new ones and ive found sources of where i can get deadstock old ones.
ive always loved this whole style of dress (1910s-1920s) and i decided what the hell, why not. its not as expensive as you might think.

I agree...this is one of the most fantastic posts that I've read in 2 plus years on B&B. I was speaking to my sister recently about people who dress/live like generations past. I'm totally interested in seeing how these collars look!

Ive been gone off the seller circuit awhile but have not stopped building my arsenal of great shavers.I found Ive been having a better time keeping all my finds,I get to use my own instead of testing them and the parting with them.I still log in everyday to stay in tune with whats happening.I tend to stick to vintage razors.Cant say which are my favorite cause they all kick butt.I honed them all myself,Im not the best, but they are sure good enough for me.The thing I miss the most are all the Pms,they went away when I stopped selling.Anyways here are a couple of pics of my rotation.

Took a chance on the 'bay and scored. Seller had a crappy picture of this Fatboy and said it had all the instructions. He said the top of the razor showed scratches and looked beat up. I noticed that it looked like the instructions were still sealed with the blades so I took a gamble on buying it. Razor came in today and I would say this is in "NOS" condition. Razor had instructions still sealed, under the head of the razor in the case is the original "instruction are in razor pack"paper and the razor was mint condition. No scratches or any blemishes anywhere on the razor. Date code E3. 40221
I wish I had a camera to take better pictures of this.
One question though, what do I use to touch up and detail the case?

Visiting my grandmother this weekend I found my grandfather's old Gillette Injector razor (in very good shape) with two 5 blade pack/key's of Gillette "Twin Injector" blades" (two injector blades stacked and spot welded together). I am going to try one out. I also found a vintage Gillette "Thin Blades" pack of DE's sitting in a drawer in the bathroom next to an open pack of Good News! disposables. I was totally blown away, as these DE's were so old. Out of the 10 pack, 8 blades are left. Going to have to give on a go as well.
One question though, what do I use to touch up and detail the case?
I've had good luck with Meguiar's "PlastX" (http://meguiarsdirect.com/detail/MEG+G12310).

The OS tube is 5 years old though  Manufactured in 2004, still smells like OS, and still squishy in the tube, I may have to try it out tomorrow, and finish the shave off with some Old Spice aftershave (Shulton formula):w00t:

I picked up a tube (along with a Merkur HD and some Trumper Violet soapinabowl) at Cambridge Chemists in NYC two weeks ago. Scott pointed it out to me and said "it's made in India, but it still smells as good as the original." The label gives an address for Menezes Cosmetics in Goa, India - it looks like they just license the Shulton and/or Old Spice trademarks. Scott says the "Original" scent flies off the shelves (although he did have multiple tubes in two other flavors - lime and musk IIRC). I've never smelled the Shulton's formulation, so I can't compare, but this tube of Original smells great to me!

I bought a medium silvertip EJ brush from the English Shaving Co. ... but when it got here I realized it was waaaaaaaaaaay smaller than I thought. So I sent it back and ordered a large one as well as some more goodies to make it worth the second shipping fee. I'm really glad I did, this stout guy is a true latherizer and fits just perfectly in my hand. Moreover, the horn imitation is just amazing on these brushes...

I have been visiting MANY different ethnic markets in the Tampa Bay area as well searcing for such finds! As for the Florida Water ( great stuff and CHEAP!) you will most likely find it at Hispanic/Latin markets. may not be with the shaving stuff btw, but rather sometimes found with soaps, perfumes, colognes...maybe in the women's section. The Cinnamon Clove complex scent is well worth the $2.99 to $3.99 a bottle I have found.

In the last two days I had a Gillette TV, a Gillette NEW, and a Blue Star Lady Gillette show up.
The TV had a layer of soap scum, but cleaned up nicely. It looks almost flawless. The NEW and the Blue Star just showed up, but with a little cleaning and polishing they also should look fantastic. The TV and Blue Star might make their way on to BST later this month.

That big mofo in the top corner really has me intrigued, the blade has that big "Never Fail" etched on it, and it says it was made by Southington Cutlery, and the scales have a vulcanite smell to them, but that's probably just me, or something they've been by. I bought these to start practicing my honing and never expected to use them for anything more, but I'll be damned if I don't want to turn the two with the biggest blades into restoration projects.

Got this stuff yesterday from Rasage Poulin:
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h303/rabelais99/group_feb11_1.jpg
From Left to right: a Semogue 2015 silvertip (with stand), Trumper Rose shave cream, Mont St-Michel cologne ('natural' scent), Laboratoires OSMA 100g alum block.
First off, the Semogue brush. This thing is a beauty. Not too flopsy, and not too small (2 1/8 inch handle and 2 1/8 inch loft = 4 1/4 inches tall). Not sure of the knot size, but it is a decent size and density. This brush was only $59.99CAD (thats $48.50 US). At first I thought it was a typo on his site.
More pics:
No, it's not a camera trick. It really is bigger than all the books behind it!
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h303/rabelais99/semogue_feb11_1.jpg
Decent density. The brush had bloomed from my use of it this morning.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h303/rabelais99/semogue_feb11_2.jpg
Nice size. Just right for me.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h303/rabelais99/semogue_feb11_3.jpg
I'll be reviewing this brush soon, but I used it this morning and loved it. Once the 'stank' is gone, I'll give it a proper review.
Mont St-Michel Cologne:
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h303/rabelais99/cologne_feb11.jpg
The cologne was a surprise. Not only was the scent really nice (think lemony a-la Eau Sauvage), but the bottle is huge. It's a budget scent, at $16.99CAD, but it's a very NICE budget scent. It's also 250ml (8.4 ozs.)
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h303/rabelais99/cologne_feb11_2.jpg
I used the Trumpers Rose Shave Cream this morning. What a treat! Great scent, and super slick. The Semogue whipped it into a frenzy in about 10 swirls. I'm definitely exploring more of Mr. Trumper's creams.
OSMA Alum Block:
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h303/rabelais99/alum_feb11.jpg
I've read about Alum Blocks being excellent astringents for after-shave use. Couldn't resist trying it out. Will also review this one when I've had a chance to use it a couple of times.
My overall experience with Rasage Poulin was excellent. Scott was helpful, and included a handful of excellent samples (I got some Trumpers skin food, Jagger cream, and a free styptic pencil).
I'll be ordering again next month (first need to pay down a bit more Christmas debt) and will post my haul. I'm looking at one of his Jagger razors.

My Mastro Livi 7/8 rose damascus with blue acrylic scales from SRD just arrived at my place in Toronto. I can't wait to get my hands on that thing... I had to pay an unfortunate customs fee though:frown: but oh well, it was worth it.
Nice. :thumbup1:
There are several blades at SRD I'd love to have.
You really got some great deals!
Nice collection! I have always had a thing for str8s, especially with bolsters.

A Merkur 38M , an assortment of blades and some Col Conks from WC Shaving, plus some Dorco 301's off eBay (thx Darkangel) and a AOS Brush also off eBay. While it looks like the pricier fine badger brush, it only has pure badger hair. Decent brush for only $25. Also found this bowl at Salvation Army for $1.25, it should make a good lathering bowl. The raised base allows it to sit perfectly level in my sink.
I have a Edwin Jagger Synthetic brush and some soaps coming from The English Shaving Co., should see those next week.

I used to go to several Middle Eastern and Indian Markets for things like the vacuum packs of Dal & Chole (which are cheap, healthy and awesome). I recall seeing soaps and hair treatments, but that was in the before time and I have no idea if I ever saw razor blades or shave cream - who knows what I may have walked right past that my future self would've loved to have. Now I live in a different part of the country and while I hear rumors of an Indian Market, I'm not sure where it is.

Two more orders from eBay showed up today. A Tuckaway in pretty good shape that needs some cleaning, and a beautiful Gillette Pocket Edition that is in great shape...except for a tiny spot where the plating chipped off.
Both were had for insanely low prices.

So I work at a major department store and we get these bonus bucks everytime we open a credit card. So I had $20 bonus bucks, and had to spend them in store.
Did I buy clothes....yea right. I had spotted a small e-shave stand a few days earlier, and gravitated straight towards it today(paycheck day). So I got an alum block(100 grams)(normal retail $16), and the floral cream(normal retail $20)(4 oz).
My total price 19.98. And I used my store credit card which grants me an employee discount of 20%.
So it will charge as 15.98
Cool or what? And I got to hear the saleslady's hilarious story about her dipping the tester alum in water, dropping it, cutting it with a blade, all to try to figure out what it was. When the instructions were on the back of the box all along.
This is going to be my morning shave tommorow, for a friends wedding reception later in the evening.

One came from FleaBay (cheap) and the other from an online antique store (not as cheap). However, in the end they both cleaned up fantastic. Neither one of them has ANY plating loss whatsoever, I was very surprised and happy. I'm still debating as I may list one of them on the B/S/T, but I'm not sure. I may use one in my rotation and keep the other in the "Collection."
I'm just not sure yet.

I have a very supportive LOTH, that and not many collections/hobbies. Aside from Gun Smithing (which is on hold for 3 more years because of my current location) I have my guitar (1 and only) and watches (several). Didn't get the mail yesterday, so it was a nice surprise to a bubble pack manila envelope addressed to me today. Inside was a puck from Suzy Bubbles in a wonderful lime scent!! I won her newbie give away last week. :001_smile
I just opened it, so it hasn't been shave tested, but I damn near taste tested it. True story, it smells good enough to eat...
When I was informed by Suzy I had won, I sent a quick reply with my address. As an after thought, I sent a second PM asking if a would get to pick a scent, or get surprised. She informed me it would be a surprise. Turns out, I liked that better anyway! I think it would been a tough decision after seeing how many scents she offers.
Thank you for the soap, Suzy. This newb can't wait to try it tonight!
