Wow, is this as superb hand lotion.

Joe, I have been using the alum block as deodorant and I LOVE it! Please let me know how they Crystal Stick works... I can't help but think it would be easier to use, but there is no powery residue from the alum block and I have heard this can happen with other ones.. So far I really love this tho and am not planning on going back to regular deodorants ever again!!

Hi Sue, I've been using the crystal deodorants off and on for a couple years now. I'm sure an alum block could be used as well (probably even more suitable as I think they are more potent). And I've also not experienced powdery residue, but I've only used this one brand.

Which alumblock are you using?

Gaurav talked me into the Shavex... I can't believe how much cleaner I feel using it...! This is new to me, I always used girls deodorant before. I love the alum! I love finding new things too (at my age.... ) How are the alum blocks more potent, do you know?

Thanks!

I think the alum blocks are heavier, or "packed" more dense than the crystal deodorants. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me. I do, however, know for sure that alum blocks are perfectly suitable as deodorants (and a superior choice to using the standard store-bought antiperspirant...IMVHO)

I like using these deodorants because they allow you to perspire, which is a healthy process that allows your body to rid itself of toxins.

It has been suggested to me that I use it as a facial toner too... I am just not sure how I feel about using 1 block for both applications...... So, it is relegated to deodorant for now.... :001_wub:

Hey Sue..

Ive been using the crystal stick from Trader Joes for about 7 yrs now.
I like them very much.
Started because of concerns about Aluminum and Alzheimers' possible connections but I found they are effective and have no white or powdery residue to worry about.
Some people also use them on their feet. I havent tried that yet. Powder in my shoes feels really good:wink:
Oh yeah....I think they run about $5 a pop and a stick will last around a year or so. An extra perk.

I haven't tried the Pre de Provence shaving soap. Any comments?

You can buy their bars of soap by the case at discount from TheFrenchyBee.com (strange name, I know) if you like French Milled soap. I live in Miami, but spend months at a time in Europe and get my fix for hard to get EU products (or what an old girlfriend called European Affectation items) at this site when I'm at home. Try the French Mustards.

I don't jump up and down over the scent. It's nice, but not my personal preference. However, the shave...well that is what it is all about. Very slick, and also moisturizing, especially for a soap.

Very nice stuff....personally I rather enjoy the scent of the soap. I actually find it remarkably similar to the Gold Dachs soap - as far as scent, performance, etc. I have only used it 3-4 times, but so far, it is mighty nice stuff. I purchased it new on ebay for about $8 shipped. :001_tt2:

I just received the Rooney 1 large silvertip I bought from DJ - he sold me the black-handled one he didn't want. At 26mm, its the biggest brush I own and its a beauty.

He also threw in som C&M Sandalwood aftershave gel, some samples of shaving cream and a cake of the Himalaya shave soap from Escential Lotions & Oils out in Portland.

All I can say is thanks DJ for the great deal on the brush and the extras - I am often amazed at the generosity of the members of the board. I've bought and traded with several members and I honestly can't think of a nicer group of people to deal with.

Bob,

Shaving, fine liquor and guns. A man after my own heart. I no longer own any Sig's, had to sell them at one time of extreme financial difficulty, hated to do it, wanted to donate bone marrow or a kidney, but my wife wouldn't let me. I had to part with them, but it was either them or the 1911's. Managed to build my collection back up though.

Oh - I've got some glocks, Springfields, HK's (even a little P7M8), Rugers, and my beloved sig-sauers. While I do enjoy Glocks, as they are a fine weapon - they do not hold a candle to my Sigs as far as accuracy/durability/reliability is concerened. Glocks are ONE of the most reliable handguns out there... but my experience has show that the sigs are THE most reliable. Not only are they reliable - but unlike the Glock - which has "combat" accuracy (read: medeocre at best - even in their practical/tactical models which I own as well) sig's have match grade accuracy, and I find my sigs to shoot better out of the box than semi-custom 1911's - for example Kimbers.

Sig P229 in .40S&W here. Safe and accurate. I want something in .45.

My favorite pistol is my Browning Hi-Power. Fits my hand, accurate, but not neccessarily the safest to have around for home defense. Someday, it will make a trip to Wayne Novak.

The closest gun I've handled to being an extension of my arm/hand was a CZ75 Bouska. Awful black painted finish, but incredibly accurate for an inexpensive, off the shelf gun. Felt just right. I wish I had bought one back in the mid-80's.

Wow. This is getting OT. I detect a new thread about to be born.

Edit: Done. New firearms thread (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=7629)over at the Babershop.

Beautiful brush Danny. I was also debating wheter I should order one of those.

Can't wait to hear what you think of it.

Thanks Scotto! It seems that the SR silver-tips are well-loved by owners and well-admired by owners-to-be! I really am very anxious to try this brush in the morning.

One day, I am going to get a new brush and a new razor and some new soaps. I think it will be Tuesday or Monday.

I may have to put it all up until Nov 11, though. It is all a wedding anniversary present.

I decided that my brush collection was simply incomplete without a Savile Row silvertip. Looking over the models, I decided on getting the long-handled 3226. I have included some photos to offer a sense of scale: the 3226 is a very big brush!

I am really, really jealous. I promised myself I would treat myself to a SR silver tip if I broke 170 on the LSAT I took recently. Got my score yesterday................168. :cursing: Oh well.

Molton Brown Re-Charge Black Pepper Body Wash
A couple of free samples (not pictured)

As I mentioned last week, I ordered this body wash out of curiosity after reading about it in Scotto's SOTD from time to time. I was accidentally shipped the Body Soother (a moisturizer) instead.

Now that the problem has been fixed, I would like to publicly thank and recommend the merchant, The Grooming Lounge (http://www.thegroominglounge.com). They quickly and cheerfully corrected their shipping mistake, and their great customer service means that I would not hesitate to purchase from them again. Just wanted to let the rest of B&B know about yet another good and honest Internet purveyor of grooming products.

I have already bought two brushes this month. Suddenly I feel an urge to have one more. Damn!

How does this brush compare overall to your PJ 2 in super? It looks so almost identical. At that price too I am going to have to get one if it is even remotely close in quality and efficacy.

While I do enjoy Glocks, as they are a fine weapon - they do not hold a candle to my Sigs as far as accuracy/durability/reliability is concerened. ... my experience has show that the sigs are THE most reliable.

Maybe there is a reason Swedish Police are equipped with Sigs. Good to know they stand a decent chance to hit what they are aiming at

There was a controversy a few years ago, when the Swedish police switched ammunition from standard bullets to some sort of frangible projectile. Apparently normal bullets had insufficient "stopping power". The press put the flame on, with stories of how the police was now packing "exploding bullets". But the story died quickly when the police explained that this new form of ammo was much safer for bystanders.

Stopped by C&E and picked up a Best Badger Brush for use on soaps. Man, this scruby lil' devil works great with hard soaps, and I only had to spend $35 to stem my episode of SBAD.

Swedish police, Navy Seals, Delta Force, Polish Gromm, Isralie special forces, etc etc - all use Sig's, as they allow they operators to choose their handgun. A famous Police instructor in the USA once said "There are two types of officers....those who carry Sig's, and those who wish they did."

And here I thought the Israelis favoured Glock. You learn something new every day! I am glad I'm not in the line of work where my knowledge of handguns and their operation could mean the difference between a job well done and a trip to the cemetary. I will leave that to the big boys.

DJ,

That's correct; this brush was made by Maestro Livi, from Perugia Italy; but my guess is that he turned the handle, but the knot was probably filled by Omega; the appearance of the loft is very much alike those of my Omega badger brushes...

My Eye caught 2 items

1- Tabac Shave soap stick.

I have been looking for ages for any Tabac soap it was there hidden between Tabac a/s but the D.A that we have here doesnt have the big Tabac soap Jar I want so much so the soap stick will have to do.

2-Kruidvat soap bowl its 50% off the price of VerguldeHand soap but LX emergency said it is good, I bought it for Crackstar as a gift.

I also saw the Verguldehand shave Cream tube ! I resisted to grab that but am already sorry I didnt go for it because it was only the last one at display.

There are some IDF units that use Glock 17's and Glock 34's - however in the most elite unit, where cost is not a consideration/problem, and soldiers get a large input in what they carry, ALL of the Isralie special ops (commando's, anti-tank squads, etc) carry Sigs. Glocks can't handle as much of a beating as sigs, and sigs work awful well with/in sand. Isralie Mossad officers (similar to the U.S. CIA) carry Sig P229's as their concealed carry piece.
