So, I'm interested in getting off the detergent-based face washes and "beauty bars" and switching over to the high quality soaps. I was wondering if I could get some good suggestions? I've read that some soaps like Yardley's has Petroleum in it... which I'm not sure is pore-clogging or not. Right now I'm just using Dove and moisturizing with Jojoba Oil.

Any suggestions?

The only soaps I've tried thus far is the MWF, which I'm allergic to.. the Musgo Real soap on a rope, which dried me out terribly.. the KMF Olive Oil, which was great at first but made my face look leathery after a while.. etc.

I've used Cetaphil, which leaves an odd film on my nose..
Zirh which dried me out..
Baxters of California, which is nice, but didn't clean very well..
Anthony Logistics Glycolic, which is nice, but same thing..
Sharps...

okay, you see the picture...

I really do believe that it is all hype and that I, like so many others, bought into it...

So what are some great soaps that are perfect for face and body that will leave my face smooth?

Thanks guys!

My picks would be....

Budget:
Pear's Clear Soap
Palmolive Naturals

Mid-range:
4711 Creme Bar
Body Shop - any is ok, but the Olive Oil is very, very good

High-range:
Claus Porto
DR Harris
Molten Brown

The US Variety of Yardley's of London makes the best soap I've used.

~1.50 USD a bar.

I second the Nancy Boy stuff, it rules.

If you like Olive Oil Soaps, try Lepi De Provence face/body soaps. Baudelaire also makes REALLY nice stuff, but it's a little pricey.

The Nancy Boy Sigature Scent bar soap however...you just can't go wrong with it.

I might be in the minority here, but I've never had much luck washing my face with soap (even the fancier stuff like Claus Porto and Floris.) Always seemed to make me break out. What's been working best for me is, boringly enough, just rinsing my face with water in the shower and not using any other products on it (aside from shaving cream & ASB.)

Though I did really like a sample of this (http://www.bioderma.com/en/the-products/what-s-new/product//148.html) that I received a couple of weeks ago, and I now have a bottle on the way.

It's tough to find in the US, however, so it may or may not be of any help to you -- I had to order a bottle from a store in France. If you're at all interested, I'd suggest looking on eBay for a seller from Hong Kong who has some samples -- that's where I got mine.

Consider a Castile soap, especially either Maja or Magno. Maja is more scented.

I have been using Dr. Bronner's soaps for a while now and absolutely love them. They are natural and are about the only soap that doesn't dry my face out. They are widely available online, and most organic shops carry it, and I recently found it at my local Target. I use the peppermint, and there are a couple of other scents if you dont like peppermint, but I would definately recommend it!

I say, cleanse your face with true soap, not a facial cleanser.

Cleansers don't come close to soaps when it comes to removing dirt and bacteria.

My girlfriend didn't believe me: so I had her use her Cetaphil cleanser in the shower. After drying off, she applied some baby oil to her face and wiped it off with a paper towel.

What was on the white paper?

Dirt.

She's been using Cusson's White ever since.

The "dirt" could also be dead skin. Kind of like how the inside of the collar of a man's dress shirt will look "dirty" after wearing it with a tie all day at work. It's dead skin, not dirt.

I third that. Nancy Boy body soap is out of this world. Awesome scent, phenomenal lather, stellar moisturising. Get the mixed 3 pack for a great price. Heck might as well throw in the Signature Shave Cream, another top notch product. :tongue_sm

For a great valued soap head over to Target & purchase some EveryMan Jack Citrus body soap. This soap if you could imagine smells like a fresh peeled orange and lathers like an orange juice blender out in the orchard set on froth, dialed to 11. :w00t:

Nah, we exfoliate regularly and moisturize after bathing. Nothing's flaking off.

Use soap. Accept no substitute!

liquid - Dr. Bronners

bar - Nancy Boy [ if you want to know more, email eric or one of his people at Nancy Boy.

luxury - Savon de Marseille w/ crushed flowers. It should be natural enough for you but I would do more research first, it is good though... My oldest takes long showers now and the youngest uses all of the hot water, they realllllly like it. a lot.

I'm really becoming a fan of the Whole Foods Triple-Milled bath soap. I've been using the Grapefruit-Peppermint (~$3 per huge bar) and really like it. It keeps me very clean, rinses completely and, as a solid bonus, when I really rubbed it into my beard this morning (3 days of stubble b/c school is packed right now) my face felt BBS, therefore it does admirably as a pre-shave as well.
