View Full Version : Lucky Tiger liquid cream shave; Where did I go wrong?

I recently bought my self a Lucky Tiger grooming kit (face wash, shave cream, aftershave and moisturizer). I am really happy with all but the shave cream, the aftershave and the moisturizer is brilliant and leaves my skin feeling so nice after a shave. But I am not happy with the liquid cream shave.

I have read online that you have to use a lot less water than with other creams and soaps, so I have tried to use about half the water I use when I use a cream like T&H 1805, but still the Lucky Tiger cream is runny and dries up real fast on my face. It also doesn't "feel right", it feels like it is a lot less protection/slickness than when I use other creams and soaps (I can feel that I shave, something I never do with other creams), and I also have a bit more irritation on my neck than usual (but the aftershave does such a good job to fix irritation and razorburns).

So does anybody have a tip on what I am doing wrong? I like the light citrus scent from the series, and preferably I would like to use the whole range from A to Z when shaving. But I think I will have to drop the shave cream if I cant get some clues on how to make it perform like other creams/soaps I have.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I tried it for a while and only got passable results using it either brushless (as intended) or with just the residual dampness after my brush was shaken out. I never really took to this one and ended up selling 75% of it on the B/S/T.

Thanks for your reply.
I guess I will have to try it in a few more times before I give it up.
I have read about others who really love it and makes the best lather they ever have with it, but I don't know how they did it.

The only way I got it to "work" was to use it under a cream. Like most of the Lucky Tiger products I've sampled (except for the After Shave toner), I was disappointed.

I kinda got it to work properly while shaving this morning.
First I did my regular prep, washing my face with hot water and then a soap for the face (Lucky Tiger face wash since i just got it, and I liked it), then i applied the Lucky Tiger cream as a lotion and let it rest on my face while I brushed my teeth and whipped up some more Lucky Tiger in my mug.

I used a lot more than last time (about the size of an almond), and I had nearly no water at all in the brush, and no what so ever to start with in the mug. The lather was actually quite ok, especially for the first pass. But on the third it was a bit "thin and runny". At least it provided good protection and was slick on all passes. The result of the shave was brilliant! No irritation (3 passes, WTG, XTG and ATG, with a Gillette Slim adjustable on setting 5) and as close to BBS as I usually get with 3 passes. The good result might be from better prepp work (applying it as lotion, something I has never done before with any cream), so I guess I will keep doing that.

I am not sure I will prefer this over my T&H cream, but i guess I will use it from time to time, and at least as a preparation step as a lotion (I guess I will have to wash it off before I apply another cream or soap than Lucky Tiger?).

I am still looking for any possible improvements, so if anybody has a tip for this cream I would appreciate it!
