Well... at least we are a little warmer. -8 with only -30 windchill. I just got the call. School is only a 2 hour delay. I guess when the sun comes out, we will feel warm enough to go to school despite the weather predictions that the temps will still drop.

BY THE WAY... Anyone south of the Mason / Dixon line (or south of Illinois for that matter) can kindly refrain from telling me just how warm and snuggly they are today. If your'e outside and wearing shorts and a tee shirt, I don't want to hear it! :smile:

About +3F this morning when I left the house, a veritable heat wave! I chucked the toque, gloves and jacket and dove into a snowbank to cool off. :biggrin:

You don't have to be south to brag about balmy temps, though. High in Calgary today predicted to be +10C ... get those Stampeder cheerleaders out and about!

So far, my unscientific observation is that global warming is a crock!

Its dangerously COLD!

In my day, they didn't close schools for a measly -14 degrees. (Same temp it is here in N. Suburbs of Chicago today).

No...they didn't close things for that...In fact, we had to WALK to school, 5 miles, uphill, both ways, through 3 feet of snow, (6 feet where it drifted), and we didn't have fancy boots...no! We tied rags around our bare feet and put socks on our hands like mittens...

...when we got to school we had to dig the door out with our hands so we could open it, then we had to walk out back and get some firewood, just to heat the place, and strike Flint and Steel to make a spark to get it going...

...and we LIKED IT!:lol::lol:

Pretty horrible here in Minnesota, too. Oh yeah, and my car won't start.

Blary I have a friend that lives in Cross Plains. He was telling me about them closeing schools last night. I thought that was funny as hell. Growing up they never closed the schools, no matter of the weather, even worked for a school district for a time and still never closed. Oh course this is in Montana where -14F is normal in the winter, and have seen it down to -30F or below without wind (of course that always blows here).

Just thankful we are in a warm streak at the moment. 40F for today and planned of 50F for tommorow.

This is all 30 miles from the Canadian border to give you a location idea.

Yeah? Well that firewood I mentioned? We didn't have it cut..we had to chew through Oak and Hickory trees with our teeth to get it, and we liked it.

But eating wool coats is far worse...especially when they came from the Salvation Army basement!:lol::lol:

-32 in the garage, -39 with the windchill... That is celcius - but seeing as how -40F is -40C, it just translates out as freakin' cold.

Here's the sad bit: In February it is regularly -30 or so. And the May long weekend can be +30. The human body is NOT built for this - I need to move
